Blind shots and fast greens
Mayfield is a hidden gem in the midst of Lyndhurst Ohio. An old time golf course designed by Bertie Way (designer of Firestone South) in the early 1900s, it has stood the test of time. The conditioning is immaculate with fast greens providing the first line of defense for a relatively short course. A par 71 with five par 3s and three par 5s there are few holes (other than the par 3s) where the green is visible from the tee. Be sure to take a caddy although it is a challenging walk with lots of hills to climb. The only design flaw is that all the par 3s play in the same direction. Otherwise there are lots of interesting holes demanding intelligent shot making. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is outstanding.
