About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 05/2020.
The Kittyhawk Golf Center facility possesses three of only six municipal golf courses in the Dayton area. The Hawks Course is one of two regulation courses at Kittyhawk and there is also one executive course. The courses are very similar in landscape and challenge but the Hawks Course is the shorter of the two regulation courses. The terrain is flat with trees scattered throughout. The course is fairly open with fairways that are wide open and the greens are large with subtle breaks. Man-made lagoons create water hazards that come into play on fourteen holes and there are many sand bunkers as well.

very good layout, challeging
great deal for the money, 54 holes, 18 are a par 3 course
Nasty and cheap
Whoever they have cutting the greens misses about a quarter of the grass.......not one straight cut line on 36 holes on both courses I played yesterday......about 1,000 ball marks per green makes it almost impossible to have a pure and true putt........the bunkers are absolutely full of rocks. The course workers at kitty hawk drill holes in the eggs of the geese to control the population but it's not working.....tons of geese and their feces all over the place. I had to move my ball due to about a foot and a half long terd stringer across the line of my put. The course was so backed up with people that it took over 9 1/2 hours to play 36 holes straight through with no stops. when I play Jamaica run for $12 on a hot buy I feel fantastic with that deal but when I pay $12 to play at Kitty Hawk I feel like I paid a little too much.
Sad to see these courses headed downhill
I have watched the steady decline of City of Dayton run golf facilites over many years. I was a Dayton resident for most of my 60 years and enjoyed many pleasurable rounds of golf at all the City courses with co-workers and friends. I golf with a foursome several times a week and we wanted to go back and play what used to be our go-to course ( The Hawk ). The price is reasonable, albeit higher than most public courses. The conditions of the course however are deplorable. Weed infested uneven fairways. Greens that show little sign of maintainence besides the cutting of grass, and fairway bunkers that are miniature gravel pits. We will not be playing there in the foreseeable future, unless there are major updates.
Nice course but
Course in Nice shape, greens fast, but rough was too thick. Need to mow
Walking
A lot of people that play here walk. So be prepared for that. The course it self has a good layout and can have it's challenging moments.
In good shape
Course in much better shape than last year. Great bunkers and greens were fantastic
Tight back nine
Course was in great shape. A lot of water on the back nine. Water comes in play on almost every hole. Some par 4 and 5's water on both sides
The hawk course at Kittyhawk
Very quick to get check in and issued a cart. Staff is always friendly! The golf course was very well groomed.
Poor Condition
Very poor conditions. Both the fairways and tees were near unplayable.
Fooled again
From the road the Hawk looks great. The fairways and greens are in good condition but the rough is worse than rough. when you hit and the ball 2 feet off the fairway and you lose it, that's crazy. Its not nice rough either, too many roots hidden under and its just not mowed. The day we played the mowing crew would follow us from tee box to tee box then cut ahead and we would have to wait. Got to 18 and a league had started, maybe don't sell a tee time and let someone tee off at 1230 if a league has a shotgun start at 4.
Greens were unusually slow.
We had a lot of rain in the last few days, The bunkers and greens neither seemed to drain well, and the greens seemed liked they had not been cut for a few days.
Nice course....
For the amount of play this course gets they seem to keep it in pretty decent shape. Other then the sand traps being in very poor condition and some very high rough in some areas it's pretty good for the money....
This course is where I learned to play about 48 yrs ago.
The greens needed to be cut, sand trap were not raked and the sand is very heavy. If not a good price on GolfNow I would not have played it. City of Dayton courses are all over priced.
Nice for an city course.
overall good course to play, the sand bunkers are in nearly all driving distances .
Good test of any level skills
This course makes you think as you play your round of golf. It's too bad people don't fix their divots. You would think if you hit the green you would be happy to fix your divots. Unfortunately, the greens are loaded with non-repaired divots . Other than that pretty good day.
Challenging Course with long holes
For a medium Golfer it was sometimes hard to reach the fairway from the tee. Fairways needed to be cut. Semi rough was also high. Not easy to find a ball or to come out. But after all a really good golf course. Will come back
Great value
Fun course ...Staff always friendly...3 different courses available
Exellent Family Outing
Conditions and weather were perfect for our delayed Father's Day outing. The course was perfect for our foursome of experienced to beginner golfers. It was challenging enough to have meaningful competition between the two low handicapers, and yet open enough to limit the lost balls of the beginners. The greens were especially in good shape; receptive to good shots with putts rolling true at a medium fast speed.
