All I can say is Wow!
Played this course at 8 o'clock in the morning on a weekday. The groundskeepers were out in full force making this one of the most enjoyable rounds I've played all season. All 9 holes were manicured and perfect. The greens were true, fast, and extremely challenging. Old school charm and character are present here. Four tee boxes offer a different experience. Bring your "A" game! I'll be back for more. Thanks for a great morning on a beautiful course.
A Hidden Gem
What a fantastic course! From the fairways to the greens - everything is in such great shape. I love this course! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful in any need. My only small complaint is that there is only nine holes to play. I want more.
Another Sandy Alves Gem in NE Ohio
We got the thrill of playing here in late October 2017 HARD & FAST... these greens are superb.
This is going down the old golf course designer Sandy Alves' rabbit hole here. A super 9 hole course right near just north of Kent State University.
Background on Sandy Alves. People claim Donald Ross did Shaker CC, the old great but now closed Acacia CC, but Sandy Alves was Donald Ross' understudy in the early 1920s. From what I gather Alves likely did the vast majority of the work on all these golf course. Alves also designed Cleveland's east side Highland Park Blue and Red courses while being the 1st head pro at Shaker CC (all these aforementioned golf courses have in common many various interesting green complexes although Highland Park has been somewhat neglected in the second half of her life, Acacia CC was downright killed in like 2006 turned into a wasteland walk park, a massive choke by tptb there to this day). Rant over.
You know on the 1st hole hard dogleg right... just by the severity of the green's slope and pott bunkering, you are in for a treat. The next par 3 has back to front slope that will make your ankles burn walking it.
The video on this review is of the 5th green, it's hands down is the marvel of the track. Built like an empty slightly open hot dog bun in curvature. Both left and right edges of the green are severely sloped to their respective edges. The whole green itself super sloped back to front the whole way through. Golf balls that hit the green funnel back to the front and center of the green's spine. Really the only legit pin placements on this green are straight down this center spine. Above the hole total death, below tricky to get close to the pin with a good chip / putt. A great little par 4. This short video and no pictures do it true justice, your feet and eyes in person will though.
Other gems on this Alves course were tiny par 3s well pot bunkered with consistent thick rock sand, par 5 and par 4s with super green complexes (some running away sloped downwards front to back always tricky, and some greens resting on elevated crowns, super penal if missed for flop shots will be required to get back on).
Some putts downhill on the most slopped greens impossible to stop when firm and fast conditioned.
Local knowledge course you'd have to play like 20 times to know where never to miss.
Like low $20s to play it with a cart.
If you miss or missed Acacia CC in its 2005 shape, and love small interesting greens like the superbly placed 8th on Highland Park Red, then you might want to visit The Fairways at Twin Lakes near Kent, OH next time it's hard fast. Your accuracy and short game will be challenged. You'll dig it too.
Great "Executive" Course
Great 9-hole course that will challenge most clubs in your bag. Some very nice approach shots, greens are well maintained and roll FAST! Stay below the hole. If you played this course once a week your 150 and in game would be much improved.
Unbelievable
Very nice course that I have played about six times this year. Love the layout and the staff is extremely friendly. Been playing all my life without a hole in one. My wife has been playing two years and she slammed one in on the second hole. Unbelievable.
Get out their you will love it.
They even keep the fall leads at bay. So it's a clean well kept course.
TOUGH course.
Nine hole course. Very challenging, with very tricky greens. Truly enjoyable to play here. Tony, in the clubhouse, is a gem.
Hidden Gem
Wow what a nice track I cannot believe I have never played here before. The greens are fantastic and the whole course just has a great set up and Tony is amazing also. We were running late due to nearby road construction and Tony brought the cart right out to parking lot for us.He could not have been more accommodating . He also gave me a tip sheet on where to place the ball on each hole it was a great day on a great course and I will definitely be going back.I had read where it was advertised as so nice you will want to play it twice and boy was that true!!! Thanks again Tony for your superior customer service see you soon!
Challenging nine holes
I enjoyed playing this challenging nine hole course. Was greeted my the manager who gave me an overview of the course and then told to have fun. Played in about an hour by myself. This course is a must play if you want to test your skills.
A course not to miss!
This was my 2nd time playing at Twin Lakes and is becoming one of my favorite local courses. I consider myself a beginning to intermediate player and foudn this course to be just the perfect challenge my game needs! It's a beautiful layout and although many holes are challenging, as well as the greens, I feel that I can improve my game each time I play there! The clubhouse is also great and relaxing to hang out before or after we play.
Great course
Really nice course to play at. GolfNow deal only cost us $8 for 9 holes with a cart. Will definitely go back!
The Fairways
I have been playing this 9 hole course all summer. The course conditions are excellent. It is the most challenging course near me. Lots of protected greens. Hole 5 is impossible. But that is what keeps me coming back. My favorite 9.
Great Donald Ross course
Excellent Donald Ross 9-hole layout that is challenging but fair. Course was very well maintained, particularly the putting greens. Very nice clubhouse built 5 years ago when this course converted from a private country club to a public course.
Exceptional course conditions and customer service
You must play this 9-hole course! Wonderful greens and fairways and the staff very friendly
Sneaky!
Don't be put off that it is a 9 hole course! Forced carries and deep green side bunkers make this a formidable track. Pro was helpful and gave me a cheat sheet with tips for each hole. Will play this course often!
What hidden Gem!!! Exceptional customer service
Course conditions are awesome. Starter went way beyond in customer service. When I arrived at the course there was a large group teeing off. The starter let me go to #4 ahead of the groups and then I played the 1st three holes. If not for his actions it would have taken 2-3 hours to play the nine holes.
Wonderful course.
The process was fast and we had no problem when checking in. We rode carts for our nine holes and had a great time on a beautiful course. Not for the faint of heart or elderly though.
