Rating 71.9

Blacklick Woods Golf Course is two challenging courses, one nine-hole course and one 18-hole course. Gold is the 18-hole layout; it has been ranked as one of Greater Ohio's top 10 most difficult public courses. The course is a long hitter's paradise with an interesting variety of holes, including two notable eagle opportunities. There are dramatic elevations, plenty of water, and numerous sand traps throughout. The golf course offers not only a challenging layout and superb conditions, but also an unbelievable landscape. The terrain on both courses have been so carefully preserved that they have both been certified as Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuaries. The 18-hole course is no easy feat but the nine-hole course offers a gentler option for beginners that still has an entertaining mix of par 3s and par 4s.

An Awesome Adventure

The course was in excellent condition. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens were exceptionally manicured. The staff were friendly and helpful. The course layout is fantastic with a number of doglegs and a few elevation changes. All skill levels can be challenged and experience success at this track. Another great experience was taking in the scenic views and wildlife. Our group came across a buck, red tail hawk and turkeys in our round. Highly recommend this course!

The best part about this course were the perfect tee boxes, fairways and greens. All in incredible shape for a muni course, Easy to get to and fun to play.

Blacklick Woods (Metro Green) - Solid Columbus Area Muni Could Use Leatherface

The Good: This 1973 Jack Kidwell design is quintessential 70's parkland municipality golf. An interesting track that weaves around a lot of marsh areas & creeks, with very challenging Par 5's & strong Par 3's. Each nine starts with very fun, short dogleg Par-4's. Fairways are in decent shape and greens were beautifully smooth. Staff was very accommodating and helpful given the Covid-19 scenarios. At under $45 w/ cart, one of the better values in the greater Columbus area.

The Bad: The sand trap conditions were much to be desired as many were bare with weeds growing in them. I found the design to be fairly claustrophobic with many tee-shots having to navigate overhanging trees. The practice facilities and amenities are what you'd expect at your local muni, which is mediocre at best.

The Verdict: Blacklick Woods is a fun, very inexpensive metro parks course that also includes a 9-hole short course. While it doesn't have the bells and whistles of many of the modern designs in the area, its a solid addition to the Cbus golf scene.

Best Hole: The 11th is a long Par-5 with a demanding, blind tee-shot and then must traverse an uphill approach to one of the most challenging greens on the course.

Quick and easy

The course is one of my favorites because it doesn't have an afternoon league every day like most of the other muni courses in the Columbus area. It also has a nice range for warm up.
The course was fine, a little dry but irrigated in the right places. There was zero water on the course for the players (due to Covid) and a warning would have been nice when I teed off as it was a very hot day. I was parched by the time I made the turn but then stocked up.

Otherwise, the staff were really nice and the course is a nice value for the money.

One of the best values in Columbus

Have played this course several times this season, after playing occasionally in the past. It’s definitely one of the best values you can find in the Columbus area. The scenery is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and the rangers are attentive without being overbearing. Overall, the course is in great condition. The greens, tees and rough are consistently well-kept. Many of the fairways could use some improvement, but in my opinion if a course is going to have maintenance issues, let it be the fairways. If your ball settles in a bare patch, you can always move it a few inches to a solid lie.

Note that the course is entirely cashless, and 9 hole executive course is now free for Franklin county residents. They also have one of the better ranges in the area. They don’t have a bar or food service per se. Rather beers, hot dogs, etc. are self-serve, which I actually view as a positive since it speeds up the process.

still needs a little work

Played this course a year or two ago also when I was in town. It stills needs attention to some little things that needs fixed. Mainly the big brown/dead spots in some of the fairways. if they don't want to fix they should lower the price some. They did squeeze me in as a single though. They also only accept credit cards for everything.

Great golf and people...

I was from out of town and just looked for a course nearby and played 18 holes. The course was well kept and very friendly staff.
I am a high handicap golfer. Never intimidated by the course. The enjoyment of the course scenery and maintenance made golfing great.

I highly recommend this course to all.

Great Public Course, Ex-Country Club

I played this course in my church golf outing. The weather was miserable (it was raining), but the golf course was in very good shape. Greens were firm and fair.
Probably the best public golf deal in Columbus, particularly for seniors. First, if the Metro Parks Board had not stubbornly refused to lower their fees last year, they would have better usage now. Second, if the course got a little marketing, it would really help. Finally, if the course had a food service and served beer and wine, it would have much better golfer use.

Top 10

This course is normally in the top 10 hardest courses in Ohio conversation. Pace of play can be an issue at times, but mostly on weekends. Blacklick is part of the parks department, so there is no houses and tons of wildlife. Goose droppings can be an issue on the greens at times but still a great course! This course is a long hitters dream.

harder than expected

This course was more challenging for our beginner talents than we thought. Great scenery (it's part of the park system), so that made up for the extra strokes.

Unique Course. Unfortunate Ending

Blacklick Woods is a hidden gem in Columbus. For a public course the hole variation is excellent. Every hole has a unique feel that challenges you at every turn. Whether it be blind tee shots, dog-legs both ways, various obstacles, ect. They keep the course in decent condition and it is a pleasure to play.

The only negative I have is the staff. I teed off a little after 5 and was behind a 4some of 2 walkers and a cart. There was no ranger to manage slower groups. Especially when the group in front of us looked like they had never played golf before.

Also, we paid for the twilight rate which allows us to get as many holes in as possible with remaining daylight. We made the turn at 8pm and the course was wind open. We played 3 more holes and could have easily played 2 more before it would have been appropriate to come in. A ranger shows up to tell us we need to come in even though the sun didn't set for 35 more minutes. I was extremely happy with the course and the round but the way the ranger treated us at the end left a sour taste in my mouth and will make me question whether I will spend money here again.

Great course. Great condition.

Played this course for years. Played it a week ago 7/13 and it was wet from all the rain but it was in great shape and never looked better. Hit it straight and you will enjoy it.
