Steady Decline
I play Dauphin Highlands a few times a year and have been doing so for 4-5 years now. This is the worst I have seen the course. Firstly, in my bucket of balls on the range, 6 of them were broken. The pace of play, particularly on the front 9 was slow, we waited on many tees, which pace has always been an issue. Then, the majority of the greens were littered with divot marks, old and new. There was sand all over the tee boxes as well, also with unrolled divots, even on par 4 and 5’s. Then, as we were making the turn, we were notified that there was league play beginning and that groups would be “mixing in” with us as we continued play on the back 9. This is unacceptable, particularly for how much the greens fees have gone up over the years. The staff did not have a good explanation other than that “management” was to blame for our tee times being allowed booked, knowing that league play would be coming in. This is all disappointing and it’s sad to see Dauphin Highlands in this state, a steady decline in quality over the years, with an increase in price to boot.
Overall good course, need to fix pace of play issues.
I got to play this course for a good rate otherwise I would have been very disappointed. 8 min tee times are horrible for any course let alone a course charging 80 to play. I know it was a nice day and full course so I can understand some waiting and some back up at times. However, over a 5 hour is always a negative thing. They need to spread out the tee times more to avoid it. I would only recommend this course during slow periods or if you enjoy waiting to hit most shots. As for conditions. They were solid for a spring round where our temps have been up and down.
Good value
Good value, solid condition lots o hole variety. Can be a championship challenge from the back tees or a playable enough course for higher handicap players. Relatively wide off the tees with lots of elevation change throughout. My favorite public course in the Hershey area
Great day in February.
Course was In excellent shape for February. Beautiful day. Beautiful course. Will play a ton more.
Love this course.
This is one of the more challenging courses in the Harrisburg area.. Glad I was able to play on a beautiful fall afternoon. The hot deal was incredible!
Beautiful layout
They punched the greens the day that we played so putting was impossible to predict. A really good course regardless, just bad timing. Still a fun day!
Great Course
In all we loved the course. Greens were in great shape. Fairways were great. First cut of rough was a little tall but manageable. We lost a few balls in the first cut of rough. Tee boxes were in good shape. We played behind a group of 4 that we waited on for the entire 18. Never let us play through. Toward the end we were stacked about 4 deep of people waiting on this one group. Ended up finishing in 4 1/2 hours for our group of 2.
Could be GREAT...but isn't yet
Golf course layout and design are fantastic, and conditions are very good. This course gets lots of play, so ball marks and divots abound. Improvements to facilities and staff friendliness will fetch higher ratings. Pace of play is an issue when course is busy - 5 hours for 18 holes keeps better players away. Thanks for reading.
So far, my favorite course when visiting the area. Very well maintained and great scenery.
Dauphin Highlands 1st timer
Layout / routing - great
Greens - excellent / suspect pin locations tho
Tees - a bit beat but it’s late September
Fairways - good
Rough - manageable
Staff - excellent
Pace of play - average
4 out of 5 stars overall
Very good in all aspects
Course was in good condition, some traps like concrete and others fluffy, but overall not bad. greens typical of this time of year.
