I made a reservation through golf now and when i arrived the course was closed.
Sort of OK for the Price
The best thing about this place is that no one is there, so it is easy to squeeze in a quick nine holes. The layout is actually pretty decent with some good holes and an easy walk despite some elevation changes.
The conditions are pretty bad though. The bunkers are just hard dirt and half the greens were covered in leaves (and I mean covered). There is no pro shop, so you just check in at the bar. They don’t have scorecards, and there is no signage of any kind on the course, so figuring out where to do can be a challenge.
For the $11 that I paid, it would be a good deal if they took any care at all to maintain the course. But they don’t....If I was rich, I would buy this place, clean it up and restore as much of the Tillinghast features as possible. It is really a shame to see what is happening here. My guess is that it is only a matter of time before this place shuts down.
Short fun 9 holes
Some interesting holes especially par 3 holes 5 and 6
Pitiful condition
Other than cutting the grass and collecting money...NOTHING is done to take care here. Tees are terrible and the greens continue to go downhill.
How much would it cost to put out tee markers...like they did in years gone by?
Sad
Thankfully - someone cuts the grass! But NO ONE does anything to respond to the course's obvious noted shortcomings...including something as simple as tee markers. Pitiful! It's only major plus is the location!
Surprisingly busy
This used to be a decently taken care of track. Now all they do is cut the grass. No tee markers, no new sand in the traps for years, weeds have been allowed to encroach in certain spots and the trees are never trimmed. Yet they seem to have more business than ever!
Rained out
I only got to play four holes before I got rained out v
Excellent Value
Short par 9 but has some fun holes. A few short par 3s that are either “on the green” or “a lost ball”. Owners need to put more money in to the course or sell it to someone who will.
Still it is a fun local course that is worth the visit.
NEVER AGAIN!!
Hands down the worst experience I have ever had golfing. I was charged too much for the round and the woman argued with me until she realized she made a mistake. Then there wasn’t enough carts so she said we would have to wait “about ten minutes” for a cart. After 45 minutes Of waiting for a cart we got our money back and went somewhere else. There was trash all over the parking lot. I tried to call yesterday and all you get is an answering machine. We tried to book this course a few weeks ago. Both myself and my friend called and left voicemails for them to call us back to book a tee time and we never heard back. What a waste of. time and the “convenience” fee I was charged. Nothing but an inconvenience. Never again will I golf there or use golf now to book a tee time.
Cheap course for a day drink golf session
Overall: Eh, would be more fun to play while drinking with friends.
Course layout was a little confusing, especially finding tee #1 and tee #3. Otherwise was okay.
Course was not in good shape at all. Tee boxes were either bare or not mowed. There was no denotion of white, red, black, etc. No distance signs/posts.
Greens had grass covering maybe 75-80% of the surface, which made reading a putt pretty much impossible.
Also this is a cheap course, so you should expect lots of divots on fairways and greens.
Decent price for quality, but probably shouldn't charge more than $10 for this place. However, good option for beginners or a super quick 9.
Excellent Value for Beginner Golf
For the money this is a terrific club to learn to play. Nine holes with several blind approaches. This course could be so much more if the owners only put some money back in to it. Half of the greens are a complete mess and the cart paths are a road hazard is spots.
Still, this is course we will play again for the value and to support a local club.
Neglected but challenging
Holes are challenging. Having a cart would be good because there are a lot of hills. However, the cart fee is too high. The course is generally in poor shape. Tee boxes are not marked and are in very poor condition. There are no directions or maps to help navigate the course. Be prepared to lose a few balls.
Trash Can
There was trash everywhere. I don’t think they own a lawn mower.
Value oriented
Are there things about this course that could be improved? Yes.
Would it be fair to complain for $15, and an under-ten-minute drive? Not at all.
However... I'll delve.
There were no tee markers, and the tee boxes were in poor upkeep.
The fairways, while cut, were course grass. The roughs were... Well, I lost 3 balls just off the fairway.
Some of the greens we're in good condition. Some seemed to have been slowly healing from aeration long ago.
The bunkers should all probably be marked GUR.
All that said, it was a fun layout for an executive 9. And moderately challenging at times with how some of the trees forced your club selection and/or ball flight.
I would, and will definitely play here again.
For $15.
