Good Course but Should be Cheaper
I used to play this course 3 to 4 times a week when I was in high school from 2011 to 2015. Back then I could see the course being as expensive as it is. But, now the course has gone a little down hill. I really enjoy the course layout and the staff does a pretty good job of maintaining it. Although this is true, it is not a $65 per round on the weekends type of course or $32 for 9 holes. It is just a little too expensive for what it is. There are better/cheaper options in the Delaware county area I'd rather play and save some money.
Beautiful local course
The course was in beautiful shape and we had a great time.
Dog track
Might as well played on the asphalt. Horrible fairways. Rude people. Just not what golf is about.
Horrible
Worst golf Course in tri state area. Bare spots every where. Greens should be called browns
Rude staff/Would not even give is a scorecard
I will do whatever I can to avoid playing here again. The staff is extremely rude. They refused to give us a scorecard and said one per foursome even though we were paired up with two people that we did not know. Had received a gift card for two rounds of golf but apparently their price went up a dollar per, and had to go back to the car to get the two dollars to make up the difference. Went to get food from the snack bar and was told to put my mask on on which I was literally and obviously in the process of doing and arrive to the snack bar where the worker isn’t wearing a mask and is standing there eating and basically like what do you want like we were out of line going to the snack bar to order food. I don’t understand why people are in that type of industry if you are rude and inconsiderate. I don’t recommend it to anyone.
good day w/ a good 4some
Paxon Hollow is the closest public course to my house, it is a 4 minute drive. In the past, I have been reluctant to take advantage of that and have driven farther to play a round.
This year, I've played PH twice and both times it's been a good day out on the course.
The limited number of tee times and closed range have actually helped the playing experience. Last year, played the course and found many holes littered with stray golf balls which made it difficult to find & identify the ball you just hit.
The course has some tricky short par 4s and a couple of legitimate par 5s which require three good shots and a solid putt or two, The opening holes are two birdie opportunities with an easily reached par 4 to start and a short par 3 for the second. After the challenging par 5 third, holes 4 & 5 give you two more chances to score.
The finishing hole is a par 5 with a large tree about 180 yds. from the white tees down the left side, a creek running along side on the left and trees lining the right. The creek crosses the fairway at about 225 and the hole doglegs left to an uphill finish. Some say it is the toughest finishing hole in the area.
The course gets a lot of play and often can be slow. It is a favorite course of local younger players starting out and older players who don't want to drive far to play.
Unfortunately, with Covid-19 restrictions, they do not allow single players to book tee times right now. If they did, I would play here more often.
Miserable Staff and Course not well kept
Terrible experience all around. Bare spots all over the place and rude people. Play somewhere else.
Torrential Downpour
We had a foursome go out and it was torrential down pouring with 30mph winds going into the 9th hole. Asked them for a rain check for the back 9 and wouldn't "unless the 18 is flooded." Absolute joke and won't ever be back there again.
Short Course with Risk/Reward
Rolling hills with tight fairways on many holes. Relatively short compared to your average course, but elevation changes compensate. Several holes give the opportunity to go for the green off the tee. However, this tends to slow down play. Many fairways are sloped, so you have to place your shots. I enjoyed the round, but would only play on a weekday. It has a 5+ hour round on a weekend feel.
Couldn't have been any slower.
The course was in decent shape. Staff was OK. The problem was and still is they have a men's league on Sunday and don"t enforce any kind of "pace of play". I called the clubhouse and talked to the pro and he said he would talk to them. I said that does me no good, Im stuck behind them. Never again. $60 to follow the living dead. LOL These guys took at least 5 minutes alone just putting. Seriously, these guys should take up bowling. Maybe even foot golf. The holes are bigger for them.
Overpriced for sure
Played a round here this past weekend. Back tees are only 5700 yards. I didn't use my driver the whole round. Course conditions were great, but paying 62 bucks for a shorter course is crazy. I mean you can play Glen Mills for 68 bucks. Most holes you aren't rewarded for good tee shots trying to cut all the dog legs. I'd probably play again, but not for $62 and for accuracy off the tee with 4 and 5 irons.
Cut the ranger
Love this course. The ranger is without question a rude and miserable man. I got hooked up with 3 women who were playing 9 holes. I finished 18 and the ranger challenged me with, "Where did you come from? How did you get on the course by yourself? What time did you start?" Obviously an accusatory tone and VERY unfriendly. I payed for 18 holes and played 18 holes. Who needs that kind of interrogation after a round of golf. it's YOUR job to find out what's happening on the course instead of interrogating someone when they return the cart. There's a grouchy starter too but he's thankfully not there all the time.
A Decent Municipal Course
This is a good course for the beginning to average golfer. Better golfers and big hitters might not find it too challenging. The green complexes are interesting with interesting bunkering and there are some very good par 3's. Conditions were excellent, and I didn't see any rough patches or bad spots on the greens. There is a very good restaurant/bar at the course and it's a good place for a post round meal and drink.
Solid Muncipal
Paxon fits the bill of a nice but not great local municipal course. Its generally in pretty good shape and a fun play. Depending on when you go (as with most muni publics), pay of play can be very slow and the course gets a lot of play due to the lack of options in the area.
Improving Delco course
Not a lot of great option for public golf in Delco, but Paxon Hollow has been doing a good job of fixing itself up. 5 years ago it was not in great shape, but they have taken good care of it over the past few years and the green, fairways, and tee boxes are in pretty good shape.
The course itself it ok - few tough holes, few easy ones, nothing overwhelmingly spectacular. But a nice round if you can play in a reasonable amount of time and get a decent price.
Paxon Hallow
This was a great course, some unique holes with different shots that needed to be played, i really did enjoy my time here, i did find it easy. fairways and greens were great
Paxon Hollow
I think they have done a nice job with certain things here - the clubhouse is nice, they re-did the snack bar, and the deck is great.
the course is what it is - nothing really spectacular about it, the greens were in decent shape but it is a short course with some very forgettable holes.
17 is a neat little par 3, and 18 is a very tough par 5. $65 for this course is a bit much.
Pace of play is usually pretty bad.
Ride rangers is right! Unbelievable how angry these guys are.
