Outstanding
Tanglewood is an outstanding golf course. Every hole offers a visual challenge. A variety of tee locations for any skill level however the greens have been resurfaced and with the slope and contour are challenging to putt. Smooth and consistent from green to green. Bunkering is specular and the sand is playable. The bright white sand contrasting the green of the course is impressive. A difficult course where par is good.
First time playing since the reopening
Always enjoyed playing here before the renovations so I was excited to get back out there and play the new greens. I was very pleased with how everything turned out. The greens have came in beautifully but still need a little more time to completely heal up. Bunkers are 100% better now since they’ve taken some out and redone the ones they left. The day I played was pretty wet out from a rain the day before so it was cart path only. My only complaint is the collars were not mowed so if you were right off the green you were chipping out of the thick stuff. Once they mow the fringes, this course will be back up at the top of the list of public courses around the triad area!
Great greens, nice improvements
Best greens around, I like all the new improvements. I’ll be back
What happened??
You are letting this course go. I don’t know if it’s financial or not ,but it’s in very bad shape.traps are full of weeds, tees are tore up no cart drinks, just very disappointed that I brought my friends from this area there.GREAT LAYOUT BUT PLAYS LIKE A 10 dollar Florida course.Wake up people and save this place.
Fun course
I have played Tanglewood Champions course a few times. The majority of the time was when they had the Senior tour playing there. The course was recently aerated which caused the greens to be bumpy but I have seen it in a lot better shape. Still with that said I always like playing the course.
A Great Experience
My son is a senior in high school, so during spring break we decided to play a course we had never played. Great experience! The only reason i rated conditions a 4 stars is that it was still dormant in the rough areas and some "spring cleaning" was being done on the course the day we were playing. The course was challenging but not to the point of breaking hearts of average golfers. My son is much better than I am and he scored about 12 strokes higher than his average at our home course.
I would definitely recommend this course to any experienced golfer. I do plan on going back this summer or fall.
needs work
Good thing they are shutting the course down in May, it needs some work.
Not the norm
I am sorry to say but the round was very disappointing.
The bunkers consisted of dirt and sand plus the dampness leads one to have a very difficult time chipping
In addition, one of the holes was closed and the following hole was converted from a par 4 to a 3.
We were not notified of such prior to playing and thus, the overall experience was just not up to PAR
bring a rake
Too, too many bunkers! They are everywhere. If you are not a single digit handicapper this course is a huge challenge. If you do not have the right mindset it will frustrate you, as every shot has to contend with sand. That being said I got a great deal from Golfnow and enjoyed the round. The layout other than the bunkers is excellent, and the fairways were green in many areas unlike some of the other courses around.
The course may be easier to play as the weather warms and the ball flies further. Pick the right tee box and this is still worth playing.
The land of the sand traps!
Far too many traps! This is something they are addressing, I just wish I’d known before selecting this course. If you're a player that shoots in the 90’s or more stay away, this isn’t the course for you.
Playing a course I watched the legends play
This is a great course that I watched the pros play on in the senior vantage championship many times in the 90’s. I watched Arnold Palmer hit driver off the deck on #18 ( which is now #8), so it’s fun to play that same course myself today. Great layout, greens rolled awesome, but as everyone has said the bunkers need work. Not much sand in some of them, but some of them were perfect. Will play again!
Tanglewood Championship - winter
Greens in great shape. Fast greens. Some bunkers need a little work.
Great course
Enjoyable. Great layout..wonderful staff and the hotdogs are good but the French fries are GREAT...
99 Traps without sand
We did not lose any balls on the course. They all ended up in the hard pan traps. After awhile we just tossed balls out of the traps. We were paired with Championship player. He scored below par.
Perfect day and conditions, tough challenge, bunkers galore
Tanglewood Championship Course is in excellent shape from tee to green, like a country club.
Lots of bunkers that will snare your best and worst approach shots. Only got out of 2 sand traps in 1 shot.
Very difficult to score with several placed in front of the green, not allowing for bump and run.
Scenery and variety to layout makes me want to come back several times to Tanglewood Championship Course.
Staff is very friendly. Pro shop is well- stocked. Great locker room.
Tanglewood Championship Course was a great value on Golf Now, under $20 with cart for 18 holes.
One negative to the round...... our electric cart barely made it up several hills that were not that steep. Needed a better charge before the round.
Overall, a great golfing experience worthy of multiple plays. I would highly recommend Tanglewood Championship Course to everyone!
Great layout
Enjoyed the layout. Challenging with massive bunker complexes. Green were fast and for this time of year not in bad shap. Only complaint would be the bunkers which I was warned about by several people before going. Little sand, hard pan, lots of pebbles. Other ham the bunkers thought course was great and with a hot deal can’t beat the value.
A Must Play
If you love the challenge of the game of golf this is the perfect course. Every green is protected by at least 3 bunkers.Tons of elevation change and blind tee shots. Buy a yardage book before going out so you have some idea of where to hit. The greens rolled quick and true. My only complaint is that the players playing the course need to have more pride and respect for this course. There were far to many pitch marks in the greens and scuff marks from shoes.
Great old course, iffy bunkers
Wonderful old style design, meaning it is a good walking course and not jammed with a housing development. The 11th through 14th hole complex is beautiful backing up to open farmland. Course requires some strategic thought about how to go about getting from tee to green and avoiding the many, many fairway and greenside bunkers that will lead to more bogies than pars if you find yourself in them. Tees, greens, and fairways were in excellent condition. Bunkers had variations in sand and sometimes hard, sometimes not. Best advice is to stay out of them at all cost.
Pace of play was good for our twosome walking (about 3:50). It was a Thursday afternoon and we only had twosomes in front of us.
Overall, this is a good course that will challenge you while you enjoy the scenery.
First time to play this course- late November. Very enjoyable. My only question o the staff is, "Why was there little or no sand in the traps?" They were mostly hard pan. Otherwise, a great experience.
