3 Lakes Golf Course
About
3 Lakes Golf Course originally opened in 1923 under the name Alcoma Golf Course. Along with the name change, it also opened its doors to the public and has since become a local favorite. It's known as one of the best values for your money in the area, offering country club-style golf at public rates. The layout was designed by Emil Loeffler, who designed two other courses in Pittsburgh – Highland Country Club and Shannopin Country Club. The course sprawls across more than 150 acres of gently rolling terrain, providing rolling fairways and undulating greens. The classic layout is tough but fair. You'll be tested with a variety of different lies and the holes have plenty of diversity as well, ranging from some that are on the shorter side to others that are monstrous.

very challenging
3 lakes is a very challenging course with nice undulating fairways. The staff is friendly and helpful. The greens are well taken care of and overall is a wonderful course .
needs work
Course is for youngsters. We seniors have difficulty with up downhill and sidehill lies all day. Greens were in very poor condition. fairways were,nt mowed. We even lost balls in "short rough"
Average pa course
Good course. Not sure I'd make the 45 min drive to it again but it wasn't a bad course for the money.
Greens difficult to read
The greens were like glass and difficult to read. Slope of many greens were tricky.
THIS COURSE IS IN POOR CONDITON
VERY SHOT WAS BELOW OR ABOVE YOUR FEET OR WAS A UP OR DOWN HILL LIE .THE GREENS WERE BAD,EVERY PUT BOUNCED TO THE HOLE AND WOULD NOT HOLD ITS LINE .LAST TIME OUR FORESOME PLAYS THERE.
This course was very nice
It was nice and close to where we were on that day.
This Course will be excellent
3 Lakes is a fun yet challenging course depending where you tee off from. The greens were bumpy but I attribute it to the earliness of the season. Course was surprisingly dry considering the amount of rain/snow we have had. There is some major renovation work being done but it did not detract from the game. This course is going to be really nice once the work is complete. Kudos to Keith, he and his staff are top notch.
Not so good
Might be the weather the greens are bad! Need to fix the green.
Good time was had by all. Hard to find balls at times with leaves and the angle of the sun.

Maintenance - Nearly Unplayable
Course has some old school charm, but the greens on holes 1-7 are chewed up mud pits, three of which have been completely torn up for re-sodding, with the other four almost unplayable due to mud and vigorous aeration. Greens on the rest of the course are patchy and inconsistent. Fairways and rough are in decent shape. Cheap, but correctly so. Would have felt better if they had just recommended at the clubhouse that I play the back nine twice and given me a voucher to play the front nine some other time.
Maintained well. Great greens.
Fourth time over two years laying this course. I am finally getting comfortable with it. Love the course, always have. Can be challenging. There is not a single level are on the fairways. This makes it very challenging. Course always seems well amintained. Greens roll true and very fast. This was a formercountry club and you can tell when you take a divot. You are not hitting off of the same kind of grass and dirt that is in your back yard like a lot if Pgh courses. The only downside is no driving range, but there is one two miles away, gave never used it. Over all this has become our go to course.
This course needs substantial maintenance.
You will not play a quality course for the price you pay here; at $50+ you would think the course would have decent fairways, bunkers and rough. The greens were "ok" but the fairways were an embarrassment. There were several large areas of turf that were dead with dirt patches; in the middle of the fairway!!! The rough is overgrown with clover and crabgrass and the bunkers are inconsistent and neglected. The greens were ok, it did rain the day before so I'm sure they would have been a little faster but average greens alone do not justify a $50 round of golf. I'm a decent player, have been playing for years and have played all around the area. I don't expect "country club" conditions but if they're demanding a premium price then I want a premium valued golf course. There are plenty of other courses in the area that charge similar or less money and provide better manicured courses. I don't know how they could justify charging more than $35-$39.
Nice greens, some hilly fairways
3 lakes golf course was ok to play, some bare spots in the fairways. You can end up with some severe side hill lies. Greens were good. Fair mix of long and shorter par 4 holes. Course is not easy from the back tees. Blind shots are common, pick a club a hope you guessed right. Would play again.
Not what I expected!
Fairways were burned out and had a lot of bare spots. Rate of play was very slow. Formerly a pristine country club that has fallen into ruin. Needs a lot of work and is not worth the fees charged.
busy weekends
summer weather hurts, ouch... otherwise not a bad course, picked a bad day to play because of rain prior to tee time and the back nine was shut down.
always a good layout
course in fair shape
greens excellent
rough heavy and penalizing
fairways recently had problems and require some time to regrow
play winter rules
Fairways were in bad shape due to damage
I like the course but the fairways had severe damage and some were unplayable. Too bad because the course overall is nice. Alot of the fairways have very extreme angles so lies are tough. The greens were in good shape. Pace of play was good......we played on a Sunday afternoon.
Typical western PA golf
I enjoyed the layout on various holes. The staff was outstanding . The course needs a little help due to damaged fairways. But the pace of play was ridiculously long. I would suggest sending out rangers to help speed up play.
3 Lakes
The course was very slow, without any rangers on the course to keep things moving. The fairways had a big problem with alot out burn out.
lovely greens
some difficulty with their fairways but working to repair them. Well manicured ruff not cut to much which makes fairways a must hit.
This was the aerification day--a requirement of every course in the fall. This customer was instructed to play ONLY the back because the front 9 was closed from Oct. 14-17 for re-sodding. This rating is skewing the overall rating and the conditions on typical days is much higher! Please check out other reviews!!
