Great Value Course
A challenging course that is inexpensive and fun to play. No dress code, just play golf. Worth a visit but downsides are course conditions and tendency to allow walk in's to go ahead of tee times
It's okay.
Bumpy cart paths and fairways. Poor green quality but it is winter. The club house girls are hot but not friendly. Will play again in the spring to see if conditions improve.
Never again on Monday, Wednesday or Friday
Due to the 5 and 6 somes of Senior play, this day was unbearable. I had to jump around to get in 13 holes of golf in (4.5 hours) due to the slow play and over booking. I found out midway through the round that Seniors are present on M, W, and Friday. Now, I have nothing against Seniors, I am one myself however, when the groups SWELL to 5 or 6 players well, you know the outcome. Look for me on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please bring back Sourwood.
Southwick
Great course away from Chapel Hill where I live. Expected less of a course than it was especially for the price. Short course with a great many unique hole layouts. Might be viewed as a lesser course by the long bombers, but for most amateurs especially seniors or beginners, I think it is fantastic. Really enjoyed it and will certainly return. Course was in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways were average viewing it is getting on into winter. A lot of leaves in roughs and away from fairways. Greens were great. A lot of breaks and fast, something I enjoy. Need to stay below the hole if possible. Never played here before so this was a challenge especially since there were many elevated greens. A few were hit with some sort of blight, but were kept well and decent to putt. All the rest were excellent. Not much in the way of clubhouse amenities if you are the type to sit around and hoist a few after the round and embellish your great shots.
Very good layout !
Play this course especially if you're a beginner they are good people there too to take care of all your needs .
Best Round Ever
I was happy with the course. Plus it helped that I shot the best round of golf ever.
Beautiful Scenery and Good Value
The front nine is a great run for beginners. Three nice par 3's but also a long hole or two. Even then, there are some big elevation changes to test you a bit. Two of the par 3's are to elevated greens. Course is set in rolling hills with trees and pretty views. Some water, and ponds are unusually beautiful with flowers, frogs etc. Extremely friendly staff. There are some negatives. There is no water on the course, so bring enough. There are not enough ball washers. Greens were too soft. No practice area save for a putting green, though they do allow chipping onto the putting green. These might often be enough to go down to three stars for an otherwise nice golf course, but given the extremely modest green fees and friendly staff, I think it earns four. In reference to one of the other reviews, there was no sign of any smells while we were there. Another plus, this course has visible, well-maintained yardage markers, another help for the beginning player, and a bit unusual. Even some nicer courses are letting these go, I guess on the assumption that most players have some sort of range finding device nowadays.
Fun Course/Good Layout
First time playing course. Greens in very good condition. Fairways need some work and sand traps not maintained.
A fun, challenging layout for the average golfer. Course you mention at check in that there is no drinking water or bev cart aervice available on course.
We played yesterday and I have not seen greens that bad in years. There was crab grass or weeds on the first three holes that was so bad, we couldn't really putt. You're right about the fairways, it's more like a field with a lot of weeds. We used to come out and the course was never a top tier course but at $20 it was a great value with a decent challenge. But now, even with a hot deal of $10 it is not worth it. Staff was friendly but course was atrocious.
Bad smell and very poor course
Absolutely the worst course I have ever played in my life. First of all you smell sewage in the air as soon as you get out of the car. I don't know if it is coming from the South Waste Water Treatment Plant for the City of Burlington, or a Diary Farm near by, it stinks.
Next there are no lay out, (or illustration) of the course at any Tee Off, so you don't know which way to hit the ball. Course is very narrow and nothing but hills and swamps. I paid for 18 holes, but just left after 8 holes. This course takes the fun out of playing golf. Once again "IT SMELLS REALLY BAD"
Southwick
Course desperately needs ball washers, and some water coolers would be nice. Greens were in good shape, the fairways could use some work.
Unprofessional
Our 1:00 tee off was delayed over an hour as they ran out of carts and we had to wait for some to come in. In addition there were duplicate tee time bookings causing confusion at the first tee. Play was extremely slow and we were only able to complete 12 holes.
Great potential
Lotsof elements of a great course too bad not enuf money to exploit interesting features all over the course fine value for what it is
nice layout but need to maintain well fairways
layout is pretty nice. very fun to play. It is a short course but lot of up and down, blind tee shot, narrow fairways. some fairways are terrible. green need to work too. even though this bad condition , I will come back again.
Boost your ego!
This course is very playable. Shorter than the card says, the par 5s make you feel lime a pro, and the five par 3s boost your score and ego. The layout is beautiful, especially the back nine. Definitely worth the rate, and the golfnow "hot deals" offer a super price!
Really Fun Course
This really was a fun course. It is in the middle of nowhere, but it is one of those fun finds. First of all, the cost to play 18 with a cart, is ridiculously low. So, you would expect the greens to be terrible. Not so. The greens were in really good shape, and the fairways were not too shabby. Is this course super plush and green. Eh, not really, but again, you're not paying UNC Finley prices. I found many of the holes to be enjoyable. The scenery was really awesome, as well. I can tell that this place can get really crowded, quickly, but I was there at a good time when there weren't many people on the course. There is not a starter, so it's kind of a free for all to begin, but that's not a big deal for me. I will definitely be going back to this course, again. It's about 30 minutes from where I live, but for the price and the fun factor, I'll be back. Plus, all the other courses in the area seem to be going through greens repair or fairway repairs, so this is a great spot to hit while everyone else is getting ready for the fall.
Good place to play
Has some challenging holes but for the average golfer this would be a good place to play. Greens good, fairways are green but not with good grass.
Good course
This course is a golfer friendly course and suits all types of play. I recommend this course and plan on coming back.
MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS WITH NEW LEASER
With the new management group coming in the course has improved 100%!! Staff is well trained and experienced! The greens are smooth and quick! Can't wait to get back and see what improvement they do next!!
How were the course conditions?
