Springfield Country Club
About
Springfield Country Club is situated just outside of Philadelphia, only 10 minutes from the airport. The golf course sprawls across gently rolling hills accented with stands of mature trees. The changes in elevation are seemingly subtle but they are trickier than they appear. Although the course is playable enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels, it doesn't start you off easily. The opening hole is a tough par 4 that has a creek meandering across it as well as a severely sloped green, followed by another par 4, an uphill hole with an elevated and bunkered green. There are a few strategically placed bunkers throughout and water makes an appearance on a few other holes. The towering trees that frame many of the holes also present challenges.

Will be great next year
The fairways have been changed over to a Bermuda grass, and it is still coming in. Many spots are still dirt. However, where it has come in, it is beautiful grass. Location is great for us, and the reduced rate thru GolfNow made it worth the less than perfect fairways. Tees and greens were in perfect shape.
This will be a nice course next season.
I booked this time on golf now because it was $45 when it usually costs $59 to play there. It is a course I enjoy playing very much. When I arrived at the course, the starter stopped me before checking in. He tells me the fairways are being changed to Bermuda grass and every one of them are brown and muddy like the first one in front of us. I went in and checked in. It's Sunday morning. We had driven an hour to show a friend what a nice course this is and the round was already paid for through golf now. As we were walking out of the pro shop, we speak with the starter a bit more. We find out the course is only charging $35 because of its condition whereas golf now's "Hot Deal" is $45 each with everything included. I am disappointed at this. I feel taken advantage of.
DO NOT PLAY HERE!!! Tees and Fairways are dirt.
I tried to play here on July.28, 2013. They are changing the fairways and some tees to Bermuda. The fairways and tees are dirt. The course is not playable and it should be closed till they have grass. Please see picture. Don't waste your time. Staff didn't seem to care.
No Fairways. Do Not Play Until the End of 2014 at the Earliest.
The course is under going a major transition which is fine, but should not be open to the public. The course is still charging normal rates despite the abysmal conditions. All tee boxes are temporary as well. The course will be nice, but not until the end of 2014 at the earliest yet there is no mention of the poor conditions on either Springfield's website or golfnow so beware.
not worth the money
construction....building a hotel....alot of tee box closed using ladys tee.....95% of fairways were dirt very little grass
Happy Fourth!!!
The course was in good shape. The greens were rolling true. the only regret was when in the traps some did not have enough sand.
hitters without a draw beware
Great course if your driver is misbehaving. I'm an average length hitter and on the front 9, I'll only consider it on the par 5 7th because I don't have a draw and play from the whites. On the back 9 it's more usable but it can be done without. Greens have been slow lately, but that's an advantage on some greens. Hardest hole is the 1st, bogey is good.
Interesting, varied terrain. Not too long, nice greens. Ladies tees on 4-5 holes are very challenging distances over unplayable high grasses.
Close to and easy to reach from center city Philadelphia. Decent values and excellent electric carts. No water on course so bring your own canteens. I played with my wife and another couple and the carries on 4-5 holes over unplayable high grass from the ladies tees need to be shortened.
Great Features and well Maintained
Minus the construction going on on the 18th and 10th holes, the course played well. However, I wanted to play alone because I had wanted to work on my game a little more. I reserved a spot for 1 player. I get there at time my tee time was reserved and was put into a group of 3. When I asked if I could start on the back 9 and play alone like I reserved i was blatantly told no and that I HAD to play with the other guys they set me up with. Other than that...the course plaayed well.
Good short course
Only 6,018 from the tips, but this par 70 is not a push-over. Rating & slope of 69.0/127.
Some fun, challenging and picturesque shots over ravines (#1,8,14,15,18).
Poa annua greens were very healthy, in great shape. Speed was moderate, which helped to offset the sometimes significant slopes and tilts of the putting surfaces.
I played the course a number of times in the past, but in this last trip, my appreciation for the course grew.
I'd give it 3.5 stars out of 5, but since the scale doesn't allow halfsies, I rounded up to 4 stars.
Great value at the $21 I paid through GolfNow.
Well maintained, beautiful yet challenging course!
Beautiful golf course, and very well maintained! Provides some very challenging holes yet not outrageously so! Provides the ability to sharpen my game! Toughest part for me were the greens - hard for me to read! Looking forward to playing this course again!
worthwhile outing
Springfield Country Club is an above average facility and even looked to be in process of adding a hotel to it.. beautiful landscape and hole layout. ...just whatch for wasps in the sand traps
Solid course
For the price we paid ($34 with cart on golf now ) the course was worth it. There is some construction going on around the 10th tee, didn't affect play much though. The staff was very friendly. In. The morning, the course was wide open, looks like the afternoon gets crowded though. A pretty well maintained, short course. Rough was quite long in spots, greens were decent. All in all a solid public course close to Philly. There was no one working at the grill after our round (around 2 pm) so we didn't get to have post round beers, other than that service was good.
Great shape
The course is in great shape. only one green was in some repair on the edges. Construction going on for a hotel, but no problem the staff made great strides to get you around to the back nine.
Slow play
A lot of on course construction, We played in late April so the mostly poana Greens were in good condition and rolling at a medium speed. Course knowledge is critical here for good scores. You need to keep the ball in the fairway on this tight little course to score well. Ball placement is more important than length though both are necessary.
not worth the money
they steal your money at this coarse. tee times are not spaced out and get ready for a 530 hour round of waiting 20 min per shot. quality of player at the coarse makes it feel like a chip and putt. save your money or play elsewhere it is not worth the trouble.
A Local Favorite
Played an early season round 4-6-13. Course was in good shape for this time of year, greens still have aeration scars but ran very fast. Went off just after noon and finished just before 5, didn't feel like a long round at all. First really nice Saturday of the season and it was a bit crowded. Not all of the crowd was golfers, there was a fair size herd of deer gamboling about on the fairways. Looked like they were enjoying the Spring sunshine too!
This is a tough little course, it really keeps your attention all the way around. Plenty of holes to air out the driver on, just don't expect to get by with a sloppy slice. Just my opinion, but not a great choice for beginners. If you can't your ball in play, this can be a very frustrating layout. Lots of terrain, ravines, drop offs, etc.. OB in all the wrong places and trees everywhere else! In a few weeks the rough will start growing back and even the little misses get more challenging then.
They have a construction project in work. No effect on play, but access to the pro shop is difficult. You need to take the long way around to the left of the building. There was no club drop that I could find, some signage would be helpful here. Don't know how long this will last, it's a fairly minor inconvenience.
Great course!! Really a lot of fun to play. Always look forward to getting out here!
A great afternoon of play
The course was in fantastic condition, although under repair in a few places. We had to skip the tee box on #10 as it did not currently exist. They're currently building a mariott about 20' from the club house, so the construction noise was a little distracting on a couple holes, but not a big deal.
Greens were in great shape and we were able to get through the entire round in under four hours. The only complaint I had was that the snack bar at the turn had little to no selection.
