Don't skip a hole there
I don't appreciate my 12 year old son being sequestered about what our tee time was and did we play the nine holes again. We had slow people for two holes so we skipped number 4. We did after 9th hole pass the club house to get to number four. We golfed an hour and forty five minutes. If we wanted to sneak nine more holes why would we stroll pass the front of the club house. Oh and talk to an adult unless the staff there are told to ask customers children questions! Good luck with future endeavors.
Poor course
Ran out of electricity twice in 14 holes, did not finish too frustrated to continue. Green spotty and bumpy, fairways average to poor
Average course but great value
The course layout is very good given the space that it is in. My only complaints would be the age of the carts and the condition of the greens. Other then that for the price this course is a pleasant surprise as far as the design and layout go.
Good for practice or beginners
Decent course for practice or beginners. Took my wife there (1st time golfing after hip surgery) it has been 15 yrs, since she has played. Good starting course for her. Greens and fairways need work but are playable.
friendly folks
the course is advertised as 18 holes but only has 19.
probably better when the grass gtows out.
Stay Away
Place is entirely disorganized right from the get go. Tee boxes horrific, fairways weed patches and greens marginal at best. Kids riding bikes across the fairways as I played. A real shame because the layout was not bad. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Need TLC
Considering it is January the course needs some TLC. A very challenging links style course with sand and water along with mounds on almost every hole. With some much attention to course this could be a jewel. The only nine hole course around and tee boxes for the beginner (1200 yards) there are a lot of possibilities.
Old Carolina
We played this course last year for the first time and although we didn't like the idea of a 9 hole being played twice, the different tees made it interesting. The course is challenging with many long carries and water hazards. The condition last year was not good but the price and setting made up for it. We returned this year and found the conditions to be HORRIBLE. The greens are terrible with tufts of 'grass' making it impossible to putt, the sand traps are like concrete and the rough is not maintained. We were given to understand that the hard frosts have damaged the greens. There are some very interesting holes but it is very obvious that there is no care taken to bring this course back to what it was. We were told that in "it's" day, Old Carolina was considered one of the most challenging courses in South Carolina. I can believe that as my partner lost about a dozen balls......it is all too obvious that love and care now is non-existent. The 19th hole always offers excellent nourishment and staff very friendly. There will be no returning to Old Carolina.
The hawk on the 9th fairway will be missed.
needs TLC
Lots of challenge but 5 tee boxes, 1200 yards for the beginners to 3500+ for the low handicap. The course needs attention but then again it is January.
Course was in average shape, for this area.
Fairways were in average condition. Greens were in good condition. Pace of play was good.
Its like playing on a farm
Course is in poor condition, we seem to be the only folks on the course.
Horrible!
The course has not been maintained, The sprinklers were on during play, and there was no water to drink on the course. Will not play it again!
what a dump
Every green was in bad shape. the entire course is an ant hill. you need to find grass in the fairway even when you hit it in the middle
Price was the only attractive feature
This course was and interesting layout but conditions were horrible. Could be fun for big hitters with long carry"s required on the late holes.Ants seem like the dominent wildlife on fairways, tees and greens. But for an $11.00 rate??
Not your typical beach course!
This is not your typical beach course- its a very rustic links course likened to play you only get to see on TV from Scotland. Very challenging from the start, you never know what's over the next hill. The staff was super friendly and supportive. I'll look forward to playing here every trip to Hilton Head. Great value too.
This course is very challenging
We played first hole 1 to 9 and 18, than we played 9 holes the Par 3 Tees and had a lot of fun.
Great layout poor turf
We agreed that this course has the potential to be a great little track. The layout is interesting with demanding shots. The holes present very nicely visually. Condition of fairways and greens was poor.
The layout of the courese is fun to play
The staff was great more than friendly and helpful. The 19th hole is a must the food was outstanding and at a great price. Now for the pit falls, The price I paid was 16.00 for nine holes and that's what the course is. The tee boxes are nice and the greens are in fair to need help stage. The fairways are in the need a lot of help stage. The good thing about the course was the fairways and greens where soft and held shots. but the greens had bad spots on them and the fairways had more regular grass the Bermuda. All in all I got what I paid for. So If you are looking for an hour and a half to kill for a quick and cheap 9 Old Carolina is a value.
Course requires attention. Greens poor, fairways poor
The greens had dead spots and holes in them that made putts bounce and get knocked off line. Fairways didn't have much grass and lots of loose dirt areas. Tees had been seeded with winter grass, but not enough seed was used. The first Golf Now course I have been disappointed with.
Rough conditions
This place has been sold, and only has 10 operational holes. The greens were just ok, and the rest of the course was really rough at best... fairways and tee boxes were not well taken of at all. We paid $12 each to play and at that rate, it was a great warm-up...but we will not play it again, due to only having 10 holes and the rough shape.
We could easily tell that before the new road went through and some new neighborhoods were developed on the grounds, it used to be a great course...but now, the bare min is being done to keep it going.
