The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Beautiful but tough finishing hope. Photo submitted by u000001682547 on 10/03/2013
Fantasy
Was told this was one of the harder courses in the Greenville area, but surprisingly I shot my lowest round ever here. Overall 10:10 and when I am back in town I will be playing here again.
Doglegs
Interesting course. Decent driving range yet for no obvious reason we were on the mats. Starter was a bit rude, though I think she thought she was funny. Pretty course, almost every hole was a dogleg. Course map was unhelpful and confusing and with so many tree lined doglegs, it was hard club selection to get straight shot into the holes. The course was dry yet quite a few holes were cart path only which made for slower play and irritation. Bunkers need some work , greens were well kept. Not much amenities for after.
Great course in the middle of nowhere in town
Need a lot of local knowledge to really enjoy this course. After playing it once I’m looking forward to going back to try it again with the information I learned on this first found for me.
The course is in great shape from tee to green and I look forward to my next visit.
Made it a good day
The Preserve is a nice course and even though it is on Tuesday middle of town, it seems secluded. The course is in great shape from tee to green. I really enjoyed the layout, albeit challenging.
I plan on playing here again.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!
One of the most mediocre courses in the Upstate, yet they charge the cost of a private pristine club. I play here almost weekly due to it being so close to my house….that is until they sent out an email today alerting us pricing is increasing EVEN MORE! My group will surely not be returning. Don’t waste your money!
Best $60 course I have ever played
Great course and proximity to Embassy suites. All you need in one place!
Golf Tournament
Played in the golf tournament and the staff did an outstanding job, the two day tournament was priced fairly, the conditions were great, they had good food, overall it was run very, very, well. I recommend the course, especially for those who want to play in the tournaments.
Great job!!
One of my favorites in the area
Great environment. Such a beautiful and pleasant round of golf. I have definitely payed a lot more and gotten a whole lot less. (Just to provide reference for the review, I play 1-2 times/week, from tees in the 6500 yard range, handicap index 9-10) Despite being a public course that gets a pretty good amount of traffic, the greens are in very good shape. Smooth, consistent, challenging but not punishing. If you feel like the speed of the greens are inconsistent, I welcome you to Bermuda greens. Direction of the grain definitely matters and it makes reading a putt more challenging than only paying attention to slope. Only negative feedback about the greens is that a few of the cups seemed to be cut a little “rough”. Public courses typically don’t “cut” new holes everyday, but it would be nice if they would clean up the edges from time to time.
Fairways are in good shape. Fairway bunkers are well maintained and unless you have an unfortunate lie, you can typically get over the lip and take a shot at the green
.
Tee boxes are level and not chewed up with divots. Never struggled to have to find a place to tee off from, even on par 3s.
Course layout is challenging enough to keep you thinking the entire round, but not punishing. A slight to moderately off line tee shot is more likely to find a bunker, relatively thick rough, or be blocked out by a tree than it is to find a water hazard. Obviously severely miss hit shots can find all sorts of trouble, but that’s golf. Beware of poison ivy though. If you know you can’t make a play on the ball, just leave it…. Your ankles and shins will thank you the next day.
I have played 4 rounds here. 2 mid morning and 2 mid afternoon. Pace of play has been good each time, however it has rained or drizzled at least a portion of each round which probably kept some people off the course.
They have courtesy coolers and ice you can get from the pro shop when you purchase beverages. Water coolers are provided throughout the course and bathrooms are available on each 9. They might have hotdogs or cold sandwiches available but don’t expect much from a food standpoint.
The practice range, short game area, and putting green are all in good shape. The putting green is large and accurately represents the putting surface you will see throughout the course.
Overall, The Preserve at Verdae is my favorite course in Greenville that is open to the public. I have to drive a good 30+ minutes to find anything comparable.
Thank you for reviewing the course. We would like to apologize for your recent experience.
