Marshland and natural lagoons make Charleston National a real gem to play. Architect Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead strategically placed wooden bridges over the natural areas which sometimes range from tee to green. Once tree laden, it's now a little more open, which may be to your advantage. A trip to Charleston National should be considered by any serious golfer visiting the Charleston area.

fun layout

A little dry off the fairway and sparse rough, otherwise nice greens lots of undulations. Many holes require long carry over marsh, good challenge.

Long Day

the course was in very good condition. The Staff was friendlyand somewaht helpful. The biggest prroblem was the pace of play. It took 3 of us 6 hourss told us that they had taken careas we finished the 9th h it still took us another play the last nine. As we waited on the 18th tee, again, the group in front of us was very drunk, playing loud music and very voictrous. They had started thier round an hour before we did. The 4 groups between us must have played through them or just quit. We liked the course, but will not be back.

Charleston National

Very nice course with some great views. Played very tough because of the 25 mph winds. The semi-dormant rough didn't catch errant drives very well. The tight set up made for some above average scores. Beverage cart prices were reasonable but the selection was suspect. Disappointed with the grill rooms lack of food options. Would play again even though it may be a little overpriced.

Charleston National disappointing

The general appearance of the course and facilities is pretty average. I was not a big fan of the course layout. Rees Jones has done many courses better than this one. The greens were in good shape and the bunkers raked. Tees, fairways, and rough in poor condition. Gas carts rather than electric. Clubhouse looks like they just moved in or are ready to move out. Not worth a five hour round.

Decent course

It's early in the season and the course was still coming in. The fairways were green and the rough was dormant. The greens were a bit rough but I bet when the course is in full bloom the conditions improve. We were from out of town but satisfied with the course considering all the factors. It gave its fair share of challenges as well. It seems like a middle of the road or slightly better course.

Charleston National-Great Course, slow play

This was the third time I have played CN and I will go back. We were delayed due to traffic but the proshop got us a slightly later tee time. The course was in great condition. The greens were perfect, the fairways were green and dry. The course is pretty challenging and with wind can be even more so. It requires good shot placement and good ball striking. The pace of play was slow. The group in front of us waited for each other on every shot and kept us out of rhythm most of the day but the weather was perfect and we were able to enjoy the course anyway.

Nice Track

I really liked the layout. The par 3s are really tough as every one you have to hit over water. The wind was mild the day I played about 7 mph, anything higher and those par 3s could impact your score.

The overall condition of the course was in fairly good shape.

The only knock I have was the greens were slow.

Challenging Course, great views

6400 yards from the member’s tees, very challenging especially on a cold windy day. Thigh wholes with marsh on one side and OB with houses on the other side. Beautiful course with great marsh views.

Played on Black Friday..

Summary says it all, we did tee off approx. 40-50 mins late. I was not too upset considering weather conditions, the day, and tee time. As for the course being challenging, that could be my own perspective. I don't often play courses with such hazards, it was quite the "hit n sit" day. Which, from previous reviews is not uncommon, but I would still play it again. Good luck, enjoy.

Great and Challenging Course

I played this course with my family during thanksgiving week, and we played extremely slow even with no one in front of us, so the pace of play is misleading. Choosing the right tees is very important, as there are several forced carries and very challenging holes. I will definitely be back at my next opportunity.

Wonderful routing and a very scenic course. Course is challenging but very fair! The course has a very nice variety of holes, no surprises.

What a wonderful course! Course was challenging yet very fair. For the most part you can see the hazards from the tee - no real surprises. Very scenic! Hope to return to play the course again and would highly recommend the course to my friends. Thought the course could use a little sprucing up but otherwise a good condition.

This course has awesome features

The course was in great shape for this time of the season. I can't wait to play it in the summer. I scored one of my best rounds of the year. I was impressed by how the greens looked from my approach shot, very picturesque. The tee boxes were in great shape as well as the smooth fairways and nicely sanded bunkers. It was an enjoyable round of golf.

this course needs attention

I would rec this course with reservations. Fairway/greenside bunkers need lots of help. Watering schedule is off the charts. We were unable to play 3 holes due to greens being saturated with sprinklers. Several places were inconsistent with the mower clipping, just one foot off fairway and could not find a ball 3 times. Finally, I did find the ball and the reason was no added clipping around sprink heads were done therefore the ball was buried. Lastly, we got a very good money deal from Golfnow to play. That is really all we got. The practice facility was excellent. Range, chipping greens, putting greens excellent. Never saw a course Marshall for 18 holes.
