Beautiful Greens and Overall Enjoyable Course
I'm giving the course five stars because of the condition of the course. I have played a lot of courses in the Upstate (SC) and Boscobel is in the best shape I've seen all summer. The greens were in beautiful condition. Fairways were also great.
The course is fair but challenging. The greens were fast but when you get to putt on such nice greens you don't mind the speed with a true roll.
My tips:
(1) Many of the fairways roll right. So if you have a bit of a fade, aim a bit more left of center on your drives and 2nd shots on Par 5 holes.
(2) 10th hole green rolls severely back to front and right to left. It's a tricky green!
Staff was very friendly. I did not eat any food but at the turn in the pro shop they have a nice ice/water machine to refill your water bottle (very important in the crazy summer heat).
Great for the Value
Not too expensive, and really fun with a decent but not overwhelming challenge for those who aren't pros like myself. Staff is friendly, greens are nice, and the course is kept up nicely.
Feels old....
This course has seen better days. Course layout has not changed much over the years, and it can be enjoyable if the conditions are right, but on this day, the combination of very hot conditions and below average maintenance of the course led to a disappointing experience.
popular local course
Boscobel's biggest protection is her traditionally fast bent grass greens. It gets so much play that it is difficult for the maintenance to keep the tee boxes up to snuff and the fairways are marred by golfers who refuse to replace and/or sand their divots. Nonetheless, this is a good course, fun to play, and a good test. Taken collectively,16,17,18 may be the toughest 3 finishing holes in the area. It is a walker friendly course.
