Calhoun Hills Golf Complex
About
Calhoun Hills Golf Complex (formerly known as Calhoun Country Club) sprawls across Saint Matthews' gently rolling hills. The club offers a championship golf course that is woven through stands of towering pines and mature hardwoods. Scenic landscaping accentuates the course, blending in seamlessly with the beauty of the natural terrain. The trees come into play along the fairways but they are not the landscape's only hazard. A pond and a stream come into play on several holes, most memorably on the par-4 15th where golfers will have to carry the stream that cuts across the hole. Another challenging hole is the par-4 17th. Accuracy is required in order to navigate the dogleg left fairway and the well protected green. Calhoun Hills Golf Complex also has a driving range and putting green for golfers to use and there are also tennis courts for those who don't play golf.

Reviews
A course with 2 separate challenges
Front nine is definitely more wide open. The 2nd nine has a total different personality. Still open on a few holes but tighter with more challenges on ball placement. I spoke with a few employees there and from what I was told from them and previous golfers, it has come a long way. I thought the course was in great shape. The rough could have been cut a bit better, but as they say, hit it in the fairway, you won't have to worry about the rough. Challenging but absolutely not a hard course. Very enjoyable experience.
Calhoun Hills
It’s winter condition was very good. The hills and layout made for challenging and fun afternoon. Look forward to playing again. Added bonus, carts have GPS monitors.
Rediscovered a gem
It was nice to see this course back in shape and looking good. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all nice. Bunkers could of used some raking or fluffing up. Love the new carts with the GPS. Worth the trip to check it out again. Great value.
OMG
Where do I begin< booked here for a morning round before heading to Santee. What a waste of time and money. Course conditions were ridiculously bad. No fairways to speak of and the grass on the greens were as high as fairway grass. No Cart Paths but the guy had the nerve to say its CPO on a couple of holes?!?! They should be paying people to play here. Course really needs to improve and they could start by just. cutting some grass!
No Waiting
Staff was friendly, but the cart had beer cans in it that wasn't cleaned out. Fairways were grassless on some. Greens were glass fast and considering there size, you had to be precise with your approach. Fairways need water.
This is a fun course that seems to get better every year; the staff there have done a great job improving it considering what it was in the past before becoming public. The front is wide open and offers an enjoyable experience for all golfers no matter the skill level while the back tightens up and offers unique challenges to even some better golfers making it a great place for beginners and seasoned golfers.
Nice Little Gem in the middle of nowhere
Nice deceiving course that has nice open fairways on the front nine so very hard to get into trouble but then the back nine tightens up. Pretty scenery and nice layout make this course a must try.
Don’t go
I saw on Golf Now that the rating for this course had improved so I booked it. This course had improved slightly from when I played it some years ago. It is NOT a 4 star course. My advice would be don’t go there.
Varied design
Played here on the way to Charleston. Neat design as the front 9 is mostly straightforward and the back 9 is a little tighter as it moves into some woods and swampy area. Walking it is a workout but is doable. $10 to walk 18. Greens were a little slow but you get used to it. No ball mark issues.
A fun and challenging course.
I understand that the privately owned club closed and the county reopened it a year or so ago. A little time will get this club back to its old self. Although it needs a little work it is certainly playable. Greens rolled well and were a little slow. It was a fun round and I'll be back to see the improvements.
Rediscovered
Haven't played here in a few years, but heard they were coming back. Always enjoyed this course. It is 100% better shape since last played (few years ago). A few trees removed, greens all have grass and roll good. There are some sprigs of crab grass, but nothing to bothersome. Only drawback would be that the bunkers need a bit of work. I recommend try Calhoun Hills Golf if you haven't in awhile. I think you'll be pleased.
