The Club at Pine Forest
About
The 18 semi-private holes at Pine Forest wind through the tall Summerville pines with numerous live oaks, dogwoods and a lake system thrown in for good measure. With an equal balance of straightaways, doglegs and elevation changes, this course is nicely balanced, with challenges and fun in store for golfers of all levels. Rental clubs and electric carts are available.
At 6,905 yards with a 138-slope rating, Pine Forest lives up to its name, as the course has numerous barriers of tall Summerville pines to cause problems for an errant shot. The Bob Spence design also makes use of water to add to the difficulty of some holes. It's a semi-private course, and they've named each hole, with No. 12 being known as "Little Augusta" while No. 15 is "Wastelands."

Good bones poor maintenance
You have been warned It is in really poor shape. No overseeding, greens and tee boxes are in bad shape. There are tracks from a tractor with aggressive tread all over fairway. Huge bare spots everywhere. Don’t pay over $25 per round. Staff is nice and friendly and clubhouse is nice. Will not play here again, course needs a new maintenance staff.
Wonderful venue
Great course. A little soggy in spots on the day I played. Lots of water hazards, so bring lots of balls if you’re not a pro. The staff is very friendly — and the grill makes an awesome egg salad sandwich!
Slow play
Too many golfers on course. We had to wait on almost every hole.
I don't recommend this course due to fair course conditions, lots of leaves make it difficult to find your shots.
Best Bang for your Buck
I have played maybe half a dozen rounds this year at Pine Forest. It is my go-to club when I’m in the Charleston area.
It’s a very challenging layout, playing just shy of 6300 yards from the white tees. There is plenty of water and OB on this course, and most greens are elevated and seem to have a lot of elephants buried in them, so, if you want to score, you had better have your wits about you.
The only downside is that the course can be very wet, especially after a rain. Of course this isn’t that odd for a low country course, but Pine Forest seems wetter than most. .
Still, it is the best bang for your buck in the area and, if you like a challenge, you won’t be disappointed. The staff are friendly, too. I recommend you give Pine Forest a try.
Great Course - Poorly Managed
If you are looking to play this course on the weekend and enjoy waiting 10 minutes before every shot, than this is the course for you. Now I am a fan on playing The Club at Pine Forest in Summervile, SC. However, the pace of play was awful. No one enjoys a 5+ hour round of golf. The management at the course packs in tee times ever 7 minutes. This is not acceptable.
As for the condition of the course, the tee boxes have several different types of grass growing on them, so they are not cut short (Early October). The fairways are is good shape, and the greens had many spots with heavy sand.
I enjoy the layout of the course, requires you to work the ball both ways and for you to hit several different clubs off the tee. Into the green I was also required to hit several different clubs into the greens, so i enjoyed the golfing the course.
I believe this course used to be private, so i bet the course was an absolute gem back in the day. But now as a muni, it is overplayed, undermaintained and a bit of a disappointment for the money.
Not so bad.
The reviews about the greens from two months ago should be ignored. While not perfect, they certainly weren’t bad…actually rolled pretty well. Nice layout, pretty challenging and fun. My biggest criticisms has to be the condition of the sand traps. They need ALOT of help! Pull your ball out and play it from the rough. They also have quite a few dead areas in various places and quite a few washout areas that need some attention. But don’t let that keep you away, it’s still a fun course considering.
Good but not great
Overall a good value but not a must play venue. I was disappointed at what I found with a 4 star rating. I would not rate it less than 3.4 at best. It was a good value.
Fun tract, decent condition
First time playing this course and found it interesting, challenging pin placements. Liked that there were igloos frequently with cold fresh water as the temps were in the mid 90’s with no beverage carts. Friendly service all around.
Longest round ever
Are 5 hour rounds your thing? If so, you will love this course. Get ready to take a nap at each tee box as there will be three groups lined up ahead at the tee box. Too many tee times. Management needs work.
Good
Couple dry/burnt areas on greens but overall good condition. Will 100% play here again
The course was great. First time playing there. The only issues we had were the greens. The front 9 was worse than the back 9. They was just burned up.
