We enjoyed the course very much but it is a little obvious that all the rain we have received this year took a toll.
Joe the gentleman in the pro shop was very gracious and helpful. It was disappointing that there was no half way house but the chef was very helpful and made sandwiches to go. They were not prepared to send you out with a cooler full of beer and water. Used ordinary plastic retail bags. After golf they were not set up to invite you to sit and have a Beer and watch golf. Overall though we had fun.
This golf course it use to be beautiful and a great experience to anyone!
My girlfriend and I were very disappointed about the conditions of the Maples course at Woodlake. This is the worse conditions we have ever seen and experienced at what it used to be a great golf course. I know because I used to be a residents/club member of this great golf community and the golf courses were in pristine condition at all times back then but now we couldn't believed what our eyes were looking at on Sunday! First, never seen a plague of mosquitoes that big before in our lives and I am not exaggerating! This is to the point that we couldn't see the paint on the ball washer located on the tee box of hole number 2 because it was completely covered by mosquitoes and every time we stepped on the grass at number one and two they came up and attacked us and this is also happened while riding on the cart path we have been attacked by bunches of them even after we have sprayed ourselves, the whole cart and the bags with insect repellant we couldn't get rid of them! The maintenance of the course was horrible!!! The tee boxes and fairways were not cut down at all and the bunkers were looking like a bad dream in the desert. After the hole number two we couldn't take it anymore and went back and played the Palmer course which it wasn't in great shape either but better since we didn't have to fight a war against the mosquitoes and the grass wasn't as long! I really feel bad by writing this review because this is a great golf community from the cart attendants to the top of the chain and to its residents but I have to be honest:( Hope they can get these problems taken care of and get the courses back to standards! God Bless!
Nice layout!
I have played this course before, but never under such wet conditions. It is fairly long for the average golfer, and even more so when there is no roll.
Overall the greens were in good shape, but it had been too wet for them to cut many of the fairways and tee boxes.
I prefer the Maples course to the Palmer course, but it was a good value, and our group had a good time.
Beautiful lakeside course with excellent fairways and greens.
Well maintained course with excellent fairways and greens. Challenging approaches and beautiful scenery with a huge lake skirting several holes. A gem tucked away off the beaten path.
Not even close to what it used to be :(
Needs a lot of work!!! Bunkers looked liked they haven't been maintained in months, greens sooooo slow and hard as rock (barely make a ball mark). Looks like they may be losing this course, sad because it used to be very nice and fun to play. Used to play this course a lot years ago but have not played due to price increase $60 - $115, found a deal for $29 and went to play on Sunday... no one there ?:| Now I know why the parking lot was empty.
beautiful and a must play
We look forward to going back and playing the Palmer Course. This is easily one of the top 5 courses I've ever played,
Great Weekday Value!
The course is set in a beautiful location! We played the Maples designed course and it was well taken care of, great fairways, moderately fast greens. The first several holes required smartly-placed tee shots with hybrids or irons whereas the back nine requires longer drives. Best of all, the round cost $16 on a wednesday afternoon (golf now hot deal). I think the course plays a little easier than its rating suggests but there are some risk/reward challenging holes. Bottom line is that I would certainly recommend this course.
Good value - well designed course
Staff was very friendly and flexible, as we needed to tee off a bit earlier than expected to later attend in evening event. The course needs a little attention, as the fairways were somewhat shaggy (Maples course), but certainly it was worth the expense and we would come back again.
Course wet and needs some attention
Second time my spouse and I have played the course. Both times were hot deals and felt it was a good value for the price. The first time we played was early March and the 2nd time was late May. We were surprised to find it so wet in May. The tee boxes needed to be mowed and so did the greens. That being said, we enjoyed the layout and pace of play. Would play it again for a discounted price.
This is a fun course to play. However, it is not a $90+ course as advertised.
The front 9 greens and fairways can be better maintained, several bare spots. The back nine are better maintained and are very beautiful. There are no Hole # signs at tee boxes, and sometimes I forgot which hole I was on. The Driving Range and Chipping/Bunker practices areas need a lot of improvements. My tee time was originally made for the Maple course, but there were few people on the first tee waiting to tee off and the pro shop staff was very nice to allow me to play the Palmer course. Will go back to try the Maple course.
Could be a good course with interesting holes if maintained.
Even though the golfnow price was $30 we expected more from this Arnold Palmer design. When we arrived there was no one to help offload clubs and assign carts. The one person in the proshop was cordial but didn't provide much in the way of directions to the first tee. Given that there were no markers we didn't know if we were on the right hole or not and should have expected things to go downhill as we were the only two people playing that course at the time. We were ready to quit after the first three holes the course was in such bad condition. It did get better after that as the remaining holes offer a much better look and playability but not enough to make me want to go back.
Traps needed to be worked, and yardage markers need to be renumbered/
Had a wonderful day on this course, sailed around in 3.5 hours and would have played another round but there wasn't a reduced rate.
Great golf course.
The course is great, pro shop staff not too friendly, very pleased overall.
Great Layout
The course is a great layout, very scenic near the water. It is however in rough winter shape.
I really like the layout of the course!!
I have played this course several times over the last couple of years and it never disappoints. It has a great layout and some great finishing holes. It is very nice in the fact that you finish and start right on the lake. The course is always in good shape no matter what time of year it is. There were a few greens that needed a little work but it didn't effect play at all.
A challenging course just outside of Pinehurst
Normally a $45-50 green fee course about an hour south of Raleigh, NC. Through GolfNow.com, we booked a tee time for only $17 per player.....an awesome bargain. Course was in pretty good shape considering it had rained and sleeted 2 days prior. Woodlake is sort of like a retirement community with two 18-hole courses. We player the Maples course. The Palmer course was closed for some renovations to the greens.
Great Day at Woodlake
Three friends and I signed in at Woodlake Clubhouse at 8am on a beautiful Saturday morning. Played Maples course first, followed with a afternoon round on the Palmer course. Both courses well maintained, give the Palmer a slight advantage on layout and character. The shocking part of this story is we had the golf course to ourselves. No waiting, not looking over our shoulder. The way golf should be played, first player to the ball hit and we played 36 holes of wonderful golf in less than 7 hours. Our hope is the place is open next year for a replay. If you are in the area, play both courses. Ohio golf can't touch this.
DO NOT BOOK THIS COURSE!!!
This was the most horrible experience I have ever had! We booked the tee time thru GolfNow and pre-paid for one of their hot deals. We drove an hour and a half from Raleigh with the printed confirmation and was told that the course had no golf carts and we could not play. He told us that they were in the process of getting a new "fleet" and had none at all. The guy in the clubhouse was as rude as I have ever seen and was not apologetic at all. He just didn't care. I told him that I had aready paid and was told it was not his problem. I am not one to normally complain but this was absolutey ridiculous! You can tell the course is hurting and almost had that give up feel about it. Will never go here again. Drive the extra 10-15 minutes and play the real courses in the Pinehurst area!
this course is nice to play
first two holes are with lake made me scared need information where to tee up ...
good views and nice set up
greens roll well
