Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - North Course
About
Located north of San Diego in Carlsbad, Omni La Costa Resort & Spa is a legendary golf and wellness getaway in southern California. The resort, which opened in the 1950s, has hosted 37 elite PGA Tour events. The North Course (formerly known as Champions Course) features a serene setting that meanders through peaceful wetlands over landscaped bridges and rolling hills. The course underwent a significant renovation in 2011 by Steve Pate, Damian Pascuzzo and Jeff Brauer, which included four brand new holes and improved irrigation and soil for improved course conditions year-round.

Great course in average shape
Super challenging layout and interesting. Greens were rough but true. Plugged a few weeks ago. Fairways were not pristine. Grass around the green was fair to poor. Overall great challenging course in fairly poor condition. Expected better for the money but still enjoyable.
Not worth the money!
I’ve played other Omni courses, that why I chose to play this one. I played the Legend course. It did say they where doing maintenance, well they have a lot to do then!
Mixed reviews
They make a big deal about the Champions course having 100+ bunkers on it but they were in such poor shape that it made this round hard to enjoy. Sand was very very thin in every bunker me or my partner ended up in, for a resort course I would expect better, it was nearly impossible to hit out of green side bunkers that had any decent size lip. I’ve always enjoyed playing the two courses at La Costa, but the course conditions are usually nicer than they were.
Fun course but needs some TLC
The course organization and layout are very good, but the ground needs work. Bunkers were sometimes concrete hard and other times not. Lots of bare fairways and greens are beat up
For the wonderful resort and price, the course could be should be better
Great course... however
Wonderful course that we would play again in a heartbeat. That said, we were not told that the greens had been punched and the group in front of us was late and held us up the entire round, which a Marshall could have fixed - but there was no Marshall.
Green Aeration not posted
Green aeration was not posted when I reserved, so I was in for a surprise arriving at first green. Outside of the greens, the rest were still below average for such a pricey resort course. I won’t be back.
Punched greens - no notice
The greens were just punched and horrible to put on. No notice was given to me about this before the round.
La Costa Champions course
Great set up, and the staff working at the course couldn’t have been nicer, or more pleasant.
Early March grass/fairway conditions are on the dry side, even in San Diego, so that’s really my only reason for giving our round on 3/7/21 a 4-star rating instead of 5.
I would definitely return to play there again.
Played Champions course...It was really nice...got rained on for a period on the back nine but the course and facilities were really nice
Ouch!!!
To start, It takes a lot for me to give a scathing review but......
The staff was awesome. All staff interactions were $145 course types of interactions.
After that however it goes really downhill. Management should be ashamed of the product they are charging $145 for to play the course. Also your staff deserves a product that is equal to the great job they do. Tee boxes to greens just awful. You have been warned!
Golf
We loved playing again greens were very dificult loved the game
needs improvement
the fairways were terrible, the greens were bumpy . They forgot to put sand in the traps. It was a 5 hour round!. Nothing is open and saw the cart girl twice. Starter was nice as was the staff at proshop.
