Looking great
Everyone was accommodating upon arrival. Course had major improvements that were made in the recent years. Will be back!
Beautiful Track!
This course is beautiful. It’s a great track & in very good condition! Highly recommend!
Rio Pinar
The checkin staff was was very courteous and helpful. The course was under some maintenance with recently aerated and sanded greens. The tee boxes are still growing in. Sand traps were very good. While I did not use the recently completed new practice facilities, they looked great and they were still working on them along with other parts of the course. Everyone I encountered was friendly. I would definitely play here again and highly recommend playing here.
Average and SLOW!
Pace of play continues to be an issue here - another 5 hour round - par for the course here unfortunately.
Conditions are average at best - high percentage of the fairways are super patchy and most of the tee boxes are woeful. Greens were still recovering from aerifying >4 weeks earlier - no micro punch and in need of top dressing.
The course is tight, which is it's own challenge, to add dodgy fairways to that mix is just a double whammy. If you are off the fairway, forget about driving anywhere near your ball - the course has some of the most ridiculous geofencing you'll find anywhere. Be prepared for long walks to track down your ball - likely one of the main culprits to the terrible pace of play here.
While there has been significant improvement to the off course amenities, it's not enough to offset the course conditions or pace. 3 rounds there this year, same story - I won't be back.
NEW AND IMPROVED!
Rio Pinar has been around since the 50’s and was once on the tour. In the Past years the course was given up on and was not the best greens or staffed. Rio Pinar was acquired last year by a new owner and the place has done a 360. It’s impeccable greens now. Great new bar and restaurant with friendly staff. Brand New outdoor trackman range with shade, Brand new 2024 carts, and very competitive course pricing. I will 100% be back.
Great experience
I can see great improvement in almost everything from the greens, carts, staff, restaurant. I will be back
Rio Pinar
Slow and hot on the front nine but a lot faster on the back nine
Rio Pinar
The course was in good condition despite the greens being punched two weeks ago, but all in all a good round
The Renovation is GREAT
Upon reaching the course, the starter/cart attendant/ club historian Mike made us feel welcome. The club and practice facilities have undergone extensive renovation, and the improvements are great. The course layout, which was the long-time host of the PGA sponsored Citrus Open, is timeless and allows a chance to walk in the same place where the greats of the game have played.
Pace of Play
The new owner of Rio is gradually restoring Rio back to its former player friendly heyday. Unfortunately in order to maintain that momentum management will have to do a much better job on pace of play. The welcome display on the new GPS enabled golf carts states "play fast" . (The new GPS system also indicates the position of every cart on the course so it should be easy to monitor even without the ranger roaming the course.) In order to ensure normal pace of play (not even "Fast") the course must monitor the golfers on the course. This did not happen today. The front nine was played in a normal two hours. However starting with a backup on the 10th tee, the pace gradually got worse and worse until by hole 14 we were waiting upwards of 15 minutes on each tee box including three groups on the tee at the same time. Our group made several attempts to call the pro shop and send messages via the cart requesting player assistance, We had no response. The back up was caused by one extremely slow group who by hole 14 had three open holes ahead of them. All it would have taken is one visit by the ranger and observation of that group for a couple of holes. Instead all of the players behind that group were unhappy and several of the groups were ready to pack it in. The round wound up being 5 hours long. Completely unacceptable!
We will need to get some feedback from the course or my friends and I will not be back.
Slow play, no action by staff
Front nine went well, played in 2 hours. After the turn pace of play dropped significantly. Multiple calls to the club house and on the GPS system on the golf cart drew no response. One slow foursome 3 groups ahead of us were holding up play. We had multiple foursomes on each tee box waiting. Back nine took 3 full hours to finish. It factors into the next time I decide where to play. 5 hour rounds of golf are not acceptable.
Great course
Slow pace of play but great layout and conditions for the price.
