ROUGH
While the one staff member we met was super nice. Even comped is a beverage. The overall course, amenities and practice area were pathetic. The greens were okay but everything else was sparse at best.
The clubhouse is falling apart and in need of remodeling and there was no visible maintenance people around.
Also, in regards to GolfNow. They honored our booked tee time but failed to mention we would be playing in the middle of a scramble tournament. I think GolfNow should note things like this when you are booking tee times!
Greens
The Greens are in amazing shape. I would say just as good if not better shape than any course I've played this year including most of the private courses in the area. The bunkers need some work & the fairways were like concrete, but in overall good shape. I was really pleased with the greens considering rainfall, traffic & time of year. Keep up the good work!!
Very forgiving landing areas off of the tee. Greens are firm & fast. The greens definitely make this course.
Decent course
This is not a bad course. I just feel it's about 10$ over priced. The greens are really good, but the rest of the course was not good at all. I would be good paying 20-25$ a round, not 35-40. I have played plenty of 40$ courses that were really good throughout the course. I'm thinking this might be a weekday course if you can get a nice discount but I won't pay weekend rates again.
Interesting course
Course has some surprising holes, but fun. I showed up as a single a got with some great local guys. Them and the course made for an enjoyable round.
Silverhorn
This course is great for the price! But as 90% of Oklahoma courses this early, it is still very hard, fairways & greens. Good layout though & not too crowded.
Not impressed.
The greens were in good shape. The fairways are in fair shape but the tee boxes were poor at best. I have never played a course that had no ball washers. You can see where they had been but they were all removed.
If you can't get on anywhere else then go for it. A couple of tricked up holes.
It really looks like this was a nice track but it appears to be on a serious decline.
The course is starting to come around with the greens
The new greens are starting to roll good and they're really keeping up the maintenance on #9!! The bunkers need work but for the price it's a good place for the price
Much improved
I have played this course three times in recent weeks after not playing here for a couple of years. I was expection the course to be very dry and the greens to be scorched due to the hot weather but to my surprise rhe greens were in great shape having been changed to Bermuda grass. The fairways although thin in spots were is good shape. I like the layout and find it challenging and rewarding. I recently played with individuals who had never played there before. It was good for them to have an idea of where to hit the ball and direction of tee shots. So if this is your first time to play this course, play with someone who knows the course. You will be thankful you did.
Running fast but has a great links feel
Always a good test when the wind blows, but not so much that you aren't rewarded for a well struck shot. I applaud you guys for putting in Bermuda greens to handle the OK heat. #11 was always a troublemaker, but looks awesome now. Staff is very friendly too.
would not recommend
poor tee boxes , poor grass texture. fairways not bad , greens terrible had been top dressed fairly recently ( seemed too late in the year , compared to other courses that I've played .) some of the holes were I think unfair to all levels of players on the front...I got a rain check because of bad weather , I'm not sure I will use it.
Challenging for a beginner
I just started playing and I really liked this course but it was challenging for me. A lot of people complain about the greens 2 the day before I played there but to be they were just fine, a little fast but it doesnt rain much in Oklahoma in July and its really hard not to hit a few fast greens. Great course for a beginner that likes a challenge. Probably easy for an advanced golfer.
Good Course
Course was a fun play. Just the hottest day of year to date. Some of the greens needed help. Can see where they are trying to improve them. Enjoyed it overall.
Not what it used to be
Greens were in terrible shape. Looks like they just aerated them, ball hits the green and sand pops up. Dirt in bunkers, not sand, water in bunkers. The young lady that helped me in the pro shop was very friendly, not the same by the snack area girl. Course was just not the same when I played it 5 years ago.
Good for the Price
Not an "excellent" public course. But definitely great for the money.
Affordable course
Good course for the money
Really poor condition...
This is a shame because I know they have been trying to upgrade the course conditions, but I think a new greens keeper is needed. Unfortunately, you can't just mow a golf course and hope nature takes care of the rest, otherwise you end up with rock hard fairways, dirt tee boxes, dirt bunkers and new greens that look like they are on the way out already, same issues as Coffee Creek had (took 4 years for their greens to reach some sort of decent shape). Also, price increase, which did not help the overall experience. For me when a golf course is purely driven by revenue generation, as opposed to good experience and value for money then this sort of thing happens! Sorry I could not provide a better review.
great all around course
fun, challenging, lots of difficult shots that make you enjoy playing there. staff is always great!!!
Give this course a try
Previous reviews of this course were less than stellar, but to me they are not correct. Yes, they apparently built new Bermuda greens last summer, and the greens aren't perfect yet. And yes, there are some muddy spots, mostly near the greens (apparently due to watering the new greens).
I played in early February of 2016, got an exceptionally low rate, so everything was brown and thin. However, except for a few times when my ball was on very bare ground, I played the ball down, ended up shooting 81 on a par 71 course (I'm about a 12 handicap). Not bad for first time playing this course, not playing for over 2 months due to winter weather. I had no birdies (which are mostly luck in my game), so my score was about as pure as I could shoot.
I am definitely willing to play Silverhorn again, anxious to see how it looks in "normal" season.
My only possible negative is the yardage - a couple of holes seemed to play quite a bit shorter than the scorecard (or somehow I bombed my drives 40 or 50 yards farther than normal!). No complaints overall, I had a very enjoyable round with some locals (I'm an out-of-towner), and a good time was had by all.
I may not have read this part right - but it looks like they have a season pass for $30/month including unlimited golf & cart fees, use of the range and even some type of lessons. Locals in OKC would have a hard time beating that package. Even visitors - do the math - play it twice a month and you have an unbeatable deal.
