Greens are total garbage right now
Played this course a million times and it's a decent test and has a few good holes. #4 is just an absolute joke of a hole (Par 5) and they need to just take some dynamite to it and blow it up. I can't imagine how hard that hole is for high handicappers. The greens were just awful and still in the recovery phase from aeration but they didn't fill in the holes with enough sand so there are literally holes everywhere that your ball will bounce off of. Just horrible to putt on. I would skip it for a month or 2.
Always Good value
Silver is a great local course. They've really upped the quality of the course the last couple of years. One if my favorite places to play in OKC
Getting back to its potential
I play this course about 8 times a year and it's a good value compared with other metro courses. Front 9 is more challenging than back 9 and often I get frustrated early. Fairways were hard and too short making some shots unfair. Tee boxes were hard and sandy but I've seen them better and know they can get better. Greens actually have improved, especially #11. That was in sorry shape 2 years ago. Above average greens. Pace was okay. Had to wait a few times on group ahead and was pushed a couple times from group behind us.
#4- I have a love hate relationship with it. Not too hard to par it but one bad swing and you can easily get in trouble and this hole is the one that slows play up. It's challenging which is good, but certainly one you have to hit a couple very accurate shots. Maybe they should move tee blocks up and shorten the hole?? Nah
With some spring rains, the fairways and tees will improve...currently I feel like fairways are like hitting off of old astro turf...but I've seen a lot worse elsewhere!
Overall, the staff is always great and some of the friendliest, I don't feel pressured like I do at public courses and the course is not boring. Great value.
good course
The course was in fair condition for this time of year pretty good test of golf the #4 should be changed to help speed up the game other than that there is some great holes and was enjoyable.
Course on 5/2
Doubt I will go back again no matter the cost. Never have put money into making it nice. Little to no grass on the t-boxes. Fairways cut shorter than the greens. Bumpy.
Under repair, beware!
Irrigation system is in disrepair with several heads laying on the ground. Several trees have been cut but not hauled off, logs laying all over the place. One sand trap was 3/4 full of water, while one tee box was nothing but dirt. Other tee boxes were rock hard and would break your tee! Better off driving to Guthrie and paying $5 less at Aqua or Cimarron.
first time
This was a good course. The weather made it challenging, but fun.
Course is improving each year.
The course is attempting to upgrade since letting it slip away some a couple of years ago. Greens have been aerated & well healed. Greens are running smooth and holding short shots. Silverhorn is becoming a little better after years of neglect.
Recovering from winter
The course is a bit rough after a cold winter. The drilling work doesn't interfere with play, but the green surfaces are inconsistent and the fairways are largely hardpan. It's usually a good course when the grass grows in.
Didn't have high expectations
When we checked in we were told they were out of carts but they should have some coming in. We teed off thirty minutes after out tee time. Pace of play was very slow. Then, I kid you not, some holes start appearing on the course with flags. The holes are the size of a basketball in the middle of the fairway. Had no clue what was going on until we saw people on another fairway playing "soccer golf". Odd - only to be surpassed by one of the groups asking to play through us... Then on the next hole one of the groups tells us there are not supposed to be golfers on the course. Only soccer golf players. Yes - this happened.
Went by the clubhouse after our turn and were told that it is closed. No drink cart service on the course - etc, etc, etc
Disappointed
The Greens were still recovering from being “punched” and should be playable in 10 days or so. Fairways were in typical early spring condition but several trees had been taken down and were just laying around on tee boxes and other areas. The most disturbing part of my round was the tee boxes. I play the yellow tees and it was nothing but sand. Not from coming out of the winter months, there was just not any grass on them. They did not even make an attempt to place them where there was any grass. This was not only just the par 3’s but the par 4’s also. There were more broke tees than grass. Would not consider playing there again until late in the fall when they have had time to get it together.
Great Value
One of the best values in the OKC area. The greens were awful last year, but they have really turned this course around. Great greens, challenging layout, awesome value. The one area for improvement is the tee boxes, but for the price I can deal with that.
First Time
Had a lot of fun at this course. There is a nice blend of difficulty on both the front and back nine.
When booking need advance notice of overseeding
Although I would typically like this course it was very difficult to play because of only a single nine being opened and sanding on each green. It was unfortunate that the online system does not allow for notification of courses being over seeded and sanded.
Worst experience at this course ever.
Where do I begin with how awful it was? First there was no putting green to practice on. I understand courses have to be maintained but what kind of golf course has no putting green to use? From the looks of it it seemed that they were more concerned with cutting down trees than they were about the overall condition of the course. Also, the pace of play was extremely slow and the Marshall didn't seem to care one bit. We told him how slow it was twice and he just kind of shrugged and drove off. I thought that was the Marshall's main job was to keep pace of play up? Needless to say I will most likely NEVER be back.
great course for the price!
This was a great course and I would like to play it after it warms up and it greens up. YOU WILL NOT FIND A NICER, FRIENDLIER STAFF ANYWHERE!
Not feeling the pinch in Feb??????rates were high
First,, I paid full price, No golf now discount,,, I don`t what. or when the winter rates are ,,, Or if they have them in Oklahoma,,, At any rate , The course was not worth $38.00 Plus dollars,,,,Not for this time of year. After I paid the booking fee to golf now, then full price greensfee, it turned out to be more then if I would have walked in off the street.............
Ok ,,,,,,,,,,, so I pay my Greens fee and I went to the driving range, and practice putting green, they were both ,,,,,just ok, again the time of year ,,, I understand that. Then I went in to buy a soda,,,,,,,OMG!!! $3.00
for a 20 oz bottle,,,almost $4 bucks for a hotdog.
I started thinking that they want to make up for last weeks little snow storm, ( a dusting )
The staff was very nice, but the prices were just not right , for this time of year,,,,,,,,,I`m from Pa,
here in Oklahoma for school, But i can tell you this, If my travels would bring me in this area of the world again, I will play else where...Sorry
Silverhorn, your more like a plastic trumpit to me...This course would be better suited for locals who know about the unmaintained creekbeds the washed out areas of the fairway, the bunkers with red clay type dirt,,, not sand, The time it took to play, it was a long day, while waiting to tee off ,,, I was wittness to 2 groups of 5 players , yes that will slow thing down a bit,,,, I had to wait on every tee box. Not a good day
,
Nice course layout
Held up pretty well through the winter. Not much rough around the greens. Native grass is trimmed down, makes finding wayward shots easier. Nice round for the money.
Awesome time!
Even in the Oklahoma wind I had fun. The course was in good shape for winter and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Probably the friendliest Marshall I have encountered.
There's a putting green outside the Club House, between the Club House and the first tee.
