Great course to escape the cities

Loved this course. Well maintained fairways & tees, greens were all perfect and rolled great. Basically new carts and played 18 in just under 4 hours. Beautiful views off their back deck & bar area.

Enjoyable Round Of Golf

I enjoyed this challenging course. The greens were in goid shape and rolled true. Friendly, helpful staff. The only down side was some damp fairways on a few holes and others had winter killed grass. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. I'll be back later and expect to see better fairways.

Never knew 90 minute per 9 holes was considered slow.
Played by myself. Never list sight of group in front of me until I teed off on 8 after they finished. Made a 4 then moved ont hole 9. Found myself 110 from hole for my third shot on par 5.
Ranger, if course he was also “playing “ at the same time, rolls up next to me and accuses me of backing up course. Never saw the group behind me until I teed off on 8. No one ever asked to play thru or anything like that. Ranger definitely made his point to me so I picked up my ball and left. Didn’t even play back nine. I have never been accused of being a slow player (the opposite actually).
Won’t be going back.

Always a good place.

In good conditions other than tee boxes. They could use some work.

Great spring round of golf

Course was in good shape, especially after this crazy winter. Enjoyed the variety of holes, especially some elevated tees. Staff were friendly. Great price and pace if play. Will definately be back.

Flat First, Then Hilly

Kilkarney Hills Golf Course is set in the middle of rolling farmland, with no houses adjoining the course to distract from the experience. The course has four sets of tees ranging from 6,500 yards to 4,960 yards, so can be enjoyed by golfers of varying skill levels and abilities. We played the middle (white) tees at 6,091 yards. Driving onto the grounds of the course and up the hill to the clubhouse, you have the anticipation of a round of golf full of ups and downs on rolling terrain. Then you hit the reality of the first six holes of the course, which are set on a flat plateau-like piece of land. These holes are fairly straight and fairly flat, and really nothing special. Tree coverage on this part of the course is fairly sparse, except around a few of the greens. The green on the 482 yard par 5 third hole is an example of this, as a large oak tree guards the front right of the green. Going left is no bargain, however, because a water hazard runs all the way from the front left of the green to the back right and there is very little room for error. The promised hills finally come into play on the seventh hole, a 302 yard par 4 that doglegs slightly to the right. The tee is considerably elevated above the fairway, but trees on the inside of the dogleg hide the green so long hitters may think twice before trying to go for it. An iron or hybrid is probably the best shot off the tee and should lead to an easy par or birdie. The 547 yard eleventh is one of the most difficult par 5 holes I’ve ever played. The fairway curls uphill and to the right all the way to a green that is tilted from left to right. It takes a better than average tee shot and a well-placed second shot to be able to reach the green in three. Once on, if you’re above the hole you’ll do well to avoid a three-putt. A really difficult hole! The back nine has two very short par 4 holes that some players may call quirky and not like. The 248 yard twelfth and the 262 yard fifteenth will tempt some longer hitters to go for the green, but doing so will require carrying some fairly high trees. A better play is to go for the middle of the fairway to a good wedge distance, remembering to allow for the considerably elevated greens. The finishing hole is a 416 yard par 4 that plays quite a bit longer because it runs uphill all the way. Make a par here and you’ll deserve a cold beverage in the very inviting bar and grill in the clubhouse. Despite the disappointment with the opening holes, I really enjoyed playing this course. The greens are smooth, fast, and run true. Mostly disc-shaped, they have none of the undulations you’ll find on other courses, so if you’re on in regulation you’ll have a good chance of making birdie. I didn’t make as many as I would have liked, so I will be back to try again.

Okay

For the money, there are better courses in the area. Staff was good, but we got there a little early and were told we could go when we were ready. Only to find 6 kids (under 12-13) on the 1st tee and a single. Went back to the pro shop and they didn't know anything about any of them being there. So we decided to go off the back 9 while they figured that out. That was good because it was open and the round was fast.
Course conditions were okay. Greens were good, but thicker and slower than most. Tees, fairways and rough show summer time wear. Most of the holes are fair and straight-forward. Except the 12th which should bulldozed and be made into a downhill par 3.

Okay course, not great.

I don't like courses with gimmick holes, like number 12 here. It looks as though they ran out of room for some of the holes, and had to shoe-horn them in. Layout was disappointing. Greens were good, but rough, fairway and tee boxes need work. Probably wont come back here anytime soon.

Top 5 Faves

Golfed Kilkarney Saturday of Memorial weekend.
I love this course.
I have played it enough over the years to have developed a healthy rivalry with some of the holes (#11 and #15 for example).
The course is no “gimme” - you’ve got to earn your pars. Greens are always in great shape and there is enough variety to the holes to make it feel like a complete round.
Of course, you can’t beat the price either!
Good to see it return this year on the Golf Now app:)

Very average course

I booked this course as a last minute option on a beautiful Friday. It is easy to find in River Falls, and just about a mile off 35. Course layout was interesting, with a couple of severe doglegs. Glad the guy I was playing with had played there before because there are also a few blind shots. Generally the tee boxes and fairways were a little shaggy, and the rough was pretty overgrown. A couple of the greens were tiered, and generally the greens were in good shape. Given all of the better course choices in Western WI I can't imagine I'll be going back here anytime soon.

I like this course

Good value. Couple quirky holes but they're fun once you've figured out you can drive the green on the par 4 12th for example.
