Beware Robert the starter
Decent cook county course. Good layout, Par 5 12th hole is cool with double water hazards.
Beware sand bunkers that are mostly dirt and water.
Sad exception is ROBERT the starter. Avoid him at all costs.
Guy starts his day mad and aims to bring you down.
Yells at you when getting your cart. Yells at you about muddy shoes in the cart. Yells at you about cart path. Follows you around the course. Yells at you if you smile. Yells at you if you ask him to speed up group ahead. A starter has never intimidated me but this guy is an off-duty patrol power-tripping on the 1st hole, 4th hole, 10th hole and 18th hole. He will follow you around the course. Will not be coming back.
A very good layout being killed by poor management
The good: Greens, driving range, practice putting area
The bad: Fairways under poor repair. Plenty of open divots
THE UGLY: Cart paths in too many areas under horrible condition.
Can not recommend.
This once great course is still well kept - except for the sand traps. This course has one over riding feature: huge multiple sand traps. Around the green and in the fairway. They dominate this course. They are in earful shape. Like hitting out off a cart path. Generally this would be a small complaint but because of how much of course relies on sand it makes this once great course play like a muni course. Please put some money into the sand traps.
This course is a great layout
Everything good except the bunkers, many unplayable. A real shame to let this happen to such a great golf course.
In my regular rotation.
I play George Dunne regularly (3-5 times a year).
I love the course and it’s in great shape except for the sand traps. It’s a shame. I’m often paired with people playing for the first time and I find myself apologizing for the condition of the traps. Everything else about the course is awesome.
Great layout, awful bunkers
I’ve been playing GD since it opened. Love the layout, but the the bunkers are the worst in all of Chicagoland…some don’t even have sand in the them. You’re playing out of dirt. They need to seriously consider improving the condition of the traps because in their current condition, it makes an excellent course below average IMO.
George
course was very nice except for the sand traps. I wish we would of not even tried hitting out of them
Its a shame
Such a great layout and a beautiful setting. Unfortunately the conditions of the over 100 bunkers makes playing this course a very disappointing experience.
No sand
Never Disappoints
I’ve been playing George Dunne, Forest Preserve National, since it opened. Awesome course but shots are demanding. If you’re a hi handicapper, bring lots of balls. If you’re hitting where you’re looking, the course can be rewarding!
Traps are in need of some sand and TLC, but are playable.
Unfortunately, we got behind 3 groups of new golfers. They we’re struggling which made for a long afternoon/ evening for us.
Our cart ran of battery power on 12. We called the course, at 7:00. Luckily, they picked up the phone and had a new cart out to the 12 tee right after we teed off. Very thankful!
