FIVESOME nightmare
As usual the staff was friendly. The ‘character’ of some of the holes was greatly changed by Ida. So many trees have been removed as a result of the hurricane. Coming out of the winter months the course conditions were about what I expected for my $23.00. The greens (browns) are not in the best of shape at the moment. Hopefully spring weather and some good care will remedy that problem. The fairways were in surprisingly decent shape.
My complaint is the pace of play. As my threesome stopped behind the 5th tee box (par 3) , watching the threesome ahead of us tee off, they warned us about what was ahead of them. They said they would have let us through except for what they experienced on the prior holes. So I looked at the 6th hole (par 5). Well this is lovely.
A FIVESOME was around the 6th green. A single was in the fairway waiting to hit onto the green and ANOTHER SINGLE was on the tee box. Watching the FIVESOME play EXCRUCIATING SLOWLY we ‘snail paced’ along through holes 7-11. On each hole we sat behind a tee box while the threesome ahead of waited for the FIVESOME to clear the fairway. Somewhere around the 8th the singles either were let through (doubtful) or skipped ahead. After the 11th, as the FIVESOME was walking off the 12th, we made the convenient skip ahead to the 14th. Note that the 13th was wide open as were the 14th-18th. As we driving across the bridge to the 18th green the FIVESOME was headed to the 16th tee. We didn’t bother to go back to play 12&13.
This the second at Riverlands time in the past few months that I have skipped from the 11th to the 14th because of a FIVESOME . Either ban FIVESOMES or educate them to say “Play through.”
Needs work!
While most greens are playable, many have gaps that need repair. Tee boxes are average but many have very hard ground. Sand bunkers are in good shape. The loss of so many trees have removed many of the driving difficulties.
Honest value
Course and clubhouse had severe damage from Hurricane Ida. Despite the ongoing hassles with insurance, the clubhouse has been totally renovated and several hundred large trees have been cut and removed. Stump grinding in progress. This is a remarkable recovery and demonstrates the commitment to return this course to its pre-storm quality. No doubt the work is on pace.
winter conditions sparse grass in fairways. greens extremely fast due to brown grass and greens turtle back
Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc in St. John the Baptist Parish in Louisiana. Course conditions are not the fault of Riverlands management. Staff was very helpful and courteous.
Riverlands Golf - average at best
Course is average at best, very good for beginners, it is a very “straight” course with water on about 5 or 6 holes, and almost NO sand traps at all. Fairways were not very good, way too many Outsidepride White Dutch Clover patches all over, makes it easy to lose a ball in the middle of the fairway! Greens were in better shape than the last few times I played there.
Great Condition
To say this course had hurricane damage and it's been cold lately, these guys are doing a GREAT job of maintaining this course. 80% of the fairways were in good shape and 100% of the greens were EXCELLENT. Stan in the clubhouse is the absolutely the nicest guy ever. I love playing here when I get the chance and would recommend it to everyone
Hurricane Ida changed the course
I really like the course but hurricane Ida took out several key trees. From my perspective the most severely impacted/changed holes were numbers 4,7,8,10 and 17. The green on 8 is no longer protected by a tree.
Typically the pace of play on a weekday is great. This time we were a threesome playing behind a twosome that had a slow playing FIVESOME in front of them. I really don’t know if the FIVESOME tried to let them through or not but after a few holes we jumped ahead by skipping from number 10 to number 14.
The greens and fairways were in good shape.
