English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

January Golf
It’s was a bit cooler and windy but can’t complain with golfing in January. The course layout was nice and greens were good. We will be back
PGA caliber course at a muni price
Last time I was at English Turn was to watch the 1992 PGA event. 31 years later I got a great green fee rate on GolfNow and had to play this track. Playing on Monday they do not have all the normal facilities open but a real golfer doesn’t need that.
Started off by meeting James the starter on the first tee. Upon hearing that the other golfer and I had not played the course before he gave us an excellent overview of the course.
Course itself was in pristine shape. They do sand the greens Monday morning but they still rolled true. They were fast!
The course has its challenges but I enjoyed every bit of it.
Thanks again to James and Mike the Pro. Hope to play again next year when I return to New Orleans.
Get ready for a 5 hour round. They do take care of the greens though
Greens were excellent!
Really enjoyed the course. The greens were in great shape. Pace of play was slow but understandably so…the course seemed to be in high demand at the time.
Worth the trip to West Bank
Staff was great! They were accommodating for various players waiting to tee off so much so that we ended up in a 5-some. Not ideal for pace but was ok as we never were held-up. Golf carts have very plush seats (private course quality). “Conditions” rating based on winter conditions. Only negative feedback was the range was setup on the back tee and wish the pro shop would have made that clear when I purchased a bucket.
Fast Greens
My goodness those are some fast greens. Other than that Course was in spectacular shape. Love when I get to play there.
Fun Challenge
The staff at English Turn is amazing. The starter, James, gave us the best course overview I have ever heard in my 25+ years of playing golf. He was incredibly friendly and informative. Course conditions were also amazing, from tee box through green for every hole. Today was an all around enjoyable experience.
Great staff
James, Joe, and Mike were absolutely phenomenal. I was in town for a conference and stopped in for 18 and this course didn’t cease to amaze from the time I pulled in to the parking lot until I left. Great staff and an amazing course made for a solid experience, I will definitely be back here whenever I’m in NOLA.
English turn
Great place to play. Course is beautiful - can be a little far if you don’t have a car (travelers) but worth it when your get out there. Mr. James (starter) is great and will do his best to make sure you have the best pace of play possible. Can get a little backed up, but everyone is cool and will generally let you play through.
Fun course, Great late fall golf
Very forgiving off the tees, water holes almost always have a bailout on the other side. Very few OBs. Par 5s are all reachable from the men’s although 15 is an island green which led to a layup. Rough was in great shape for the time of year and the rain the day before. Fairways were perfect other than a couple of low spots which probably have moisture issues all year (right side of 16 for example). Greens are small as typical in a Nicklaus design with several approaches being almost unputtable from on the green due to green shape, slope, flag location, and poor approach (hole 13 I had to putt up the bank over the fringe and back down towards the hole tucked too left. Only major complaint was that I was playing solo for the first time, and was told by the starter the flag position was 3, but I did not have a green guide in the cart so I was guessing about approaches.
Overall, course has that compressed neighborhood golf feel without the neighborhood actually coming into play. Very flat as is typical anywhere in the gulf coast. Good practice area although the range was closed for moisture. Saw the cart attendant multiple times through. Pace of play was 3 hours on a Sunday.
Excellent Conditions
Conditions pristine. Best I’ve seen in a long time. Not to say conditions were ever terrible. They had a mishap with collars around greens and had to resod them. The resodding went real well and conditions now perfect. Can’t even tell there was an issue. Greens fast and tricky, fairways ideal.
