About
Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes Golf Club is a Johnny Miller co-design that's a short drive from its sister Lakes Course. The two courses will never be mistaken for each other though. Ranch Course is a pumped up course that's big in almost every way. There are over 300 feet of elevation changes and in excess of 100 bunkers around the course.
Miller and his design partner John Harbottle III put together a course that plays as bold and showy as Las Vegas. Only it's located in Carson Valley, halfway in-between the more nature resort towns of Reno and Lake Tahoe.
The bunkering can be severe on Genoa Lakes' Ranch Course and the mountain scenery can be even more striking. Even though it's not far from the Lakes Course, the Ranch Course is definitely set up in its own world.
Miller gives golfers a fighting chance though and often the latitude to decide their own fate. Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes is full of risk-reward holes. Most notable might be No. 18. This 561-yard par 5 gives you not one, but two shots (minimum) where you must decide how much lake you want to try and cut.

Great course, winter golf
Good round of golf. Course would be very nice during the summer I imagine. Good shape for winter golf, but still winter golf
Great Sinter Conditions
Enjoyed the round. Became cold after sun went behind mountain.
Grasless Course
If you like playing off straight dirt and dead grass definitly go here, more dirt than grass for every fairway i would never come back
Great location, poorly maintained.
First time playing this course. I enjoyed playing it. It was challenging but fair.
Could be the time of the year (July) or the location. So I won’t hold that against the conditions. But unfortunately, the fairways were in really bad shape. Barren spots and completely dry ground.
The bunkers were just mud pits.
The green fees were par for the course ;)
Not worth the reduced green fees.
Heed the warnings. Course looks like it is within weeks of shutting down. Played in afternoon and couldn’t even buy a bottle of water after 4 pm and of course there’s no water in the course due to Covid. Fairways haven’t been watered in months.
Don’t do it!
We played here a month ago and the course conditions were not very good but we figured it was because it was still recovering from the winter. Now it is just horrible! The ground is so yellow and dry and down to dirt is some parts. We were paired with a couple that lives on the course and they said that the course is having a problem with they’re water system but it has been going on for some time and they haven’t bothered to fix it. Our price on Tee Off was $60 but when we got to the course they charged us $50. It is definitely not worth the price. I regret not taking photos. They should charge more than $25 and they should warn people about the conditions when they schedule a tee time. I will say the staff there are very friendly.
Worst conditions I ever played on.
No irrigation severely affected conditions. Little to no green grass on all fairways. Tees and greens barely acceptable. Wish I would have checked with pro shop prior to booking so my bad.
Great place
So number one at this s place was the absolutely fantastic staff. They were super friendly and helpful! Practice facilities we're great with plenty of room and an excellent layout. Course was in great shape with very few issues and spectacular views. I will definitely be back!
Poor Greens and bunkers
The Green here we're terrible. Very slow and uneven. Not playable for your more accomplished golfer or even weekend golfer for that matter. Pace of play was really backed up I had to call it quites after 14 holes. Bunkers were in bad shape and guy In the pro shop also made me pay $5 extra for range balls Since I booked a hot deal time. What kinda rule is that. Heard the cart guy tell another group where the range was and said range is free with your tee time. Overall poor poor conditions but staff and range is nice. Play else where if your looking for better course conditions.

Played best round of year! Challenging course but lots of fun. Perfect weather too!
