Two long par 4s (15 & 16) make for a meaty finish. Photo submitted by BrandonTuckerGA on 06/12/2017
Improved conditions since June
The last time I played here in June, conditions were pretty bad. The fairways look a lot better; pretty consistent firmness. Some of the greens are near pristine, others are pretty rough with sand spots, bare spots, and just not well groomed. I can tell they’ve come a long way from what I remember. Hopefully they can keep dialing it in. The layout is challenging but also has some short par 4s. It’s a fun course. I’ll definitely be back.
Great Course to Play1
It is a great course, plenty of wide open areas, but it puts a premium on quality shots and positioning. Definitely will go back after it cools off, and the greens and fairways have had time to recover from the heat stress.
Don’t do it.
I’m currently on hole 7 and i never thought i’d say this, but the course is bad that i’m currently wishing i wasn’t golfing.
Looks like a wasteland from Fallout or something.
Coures in bad shape
Golf course is in bad shape. Some areas have mud from over watering and in some areas the earth is cracking from being to dry. Fairway are hard as concrete and greens aren't much different. Some greens have huge sand spots on them it seems you're putting through a bunker. For $50 during the week morning rate I expect a little more. I know we're under a slight water rashan but I've played other coures that are in perfect condition for about the same price and worse course that prices matches the poor condition. Drop price until coures is in better shape.
Great value for dog days of Summer golf
Teed off around 2 on a Tuesday in August and course played as such. Very hot, but course was equipped with water coolers every few holes, and delivery food service with a QR code that meets you on the course. Several fairways and greens in great shape, a few with large spots of sand and dead grass. Surprisingly green for the drought we’ve had. Course layout played short, with no back tees available playing ~6300yds. Fun yet challenging, affordable golf in Southeast Austin.
Little dry but fun
Like mini public courses in Texas during mid summer the heat finally gets to the greens. So the greens or just average at best and some of the fairways were a bit dry but however, it’s a fun layout. Not a very difficult course as you’ll have some fairways that are parallel and all the par fives are reachable into with good drives.
Awful conditions
It could be good if they took care of it. But wow. Bare patches on the greens covered in sand. Felt like trying to putt through a bunker. Some tee boxes were closed for no apparent reason. Lots of bare patches and random tire tracks. Really disappointing.
pretty good little hidden gem
I’ve played this course 3 times now and thought it was time for a review.
Firstly, EVERYONE that I’ve met working at this course are some of the nicest people I’ve met on a golf course. They remember your name, always greet you when you’re coming/going. It’s a little thing, but really stands out!
Now for the course…there’s some funky holes and a few greens that are pretty chewed up. And they need to weed whack the heavy rough surrounding #5 (the long par 3) to speed up play. But the further you get into this course, the better the conditions and the more fun you’ll have with the layout. By the time you get to 18 you’ll wish it wasn’t over.
Net, I’m adding this course to my weekly/monthly playing circuit.
Great Austin Muni
Riverside is a great little course tucked behind the ACC-Riverside campus. The staff keep the course in really solid shape with only a couple of exceptions (mainly due to low areas that never really dry up). The greens roll true and bad spots were minimal for late June. Lack of a driving range is unfortunate, but they just don't have the space for it (and to their credit they do have a large net you can hit into to warm up). Long hitters will have lots of short approaches out here, and good scores can be had if your short irons are dialed in. For the value I find it to be one of the best courses in Austin.
