#15 on La Quinta's Mountain is laying along the base of the mountains - stay tight to the base and go for this par 5 in two. The green stays snug up against the base and will not be in full view.

Yikes

This course is not in good shape and is a difficult course,
there are no signs and it is confusing to find the way to the next hole.

Hole #9 is undergoing some changes and there are no signs to indicate what and where a player should play, as well some employee stands out on the green shouting at people where to take carts. Frankly i fouund the way players being treated quite disgusted ! some well placed signs would eliminate the confustion.

Not sure i would play either of these two courses, again , ever !

Disappointment everywhere

Booked a round at PGA West Mountain course with the anticipation of a premium course and had an entirely different experience. Course was in terribly poor condition for the price of admission. Carts don’t have gps on them whereas budget course around here do…. Extremely lame scrambling to find an app to give us gps information that is now standard on today’s golf courses.

Greens were newly planted and basically hard packed dirt with some tiny hybrid green coming up. Greens were crunching under our feet. There was numerous places throughout the course that was under heavy repair and roped off including a large portion of hole 9 that was an open sink hole.

Pace of play was terrible. We spent 10+ minutes waiting to tee off at nearly every hole. Tee time was at 1pm and starter told us we might get through hole 12…. We finished 14 holes and missed signature holes through the mountain ranges.

Overall I wish we had gone anywhere else. We played shadow mountain the day before and should have gone back there. Other than stunning views, everything else was lacking or just plain disappointing imo. Disappointing for a course that was towards the top of my list for the area. We wont be going back with so many better options in the area.

Bad marshaling

First, the starter changed our tee time to allow 6 guys to play back-to-back without asking us. What unfolded was the 6 guys proceeded to play as all 6-some. The Pro shop was called and marshal sent out. Broke up the group but as soon as the marshal was out of sight proceeded to play as 6. Marshals drove through but never addresses the problem. Made for an extremely long round, over 5 hours.

Terrible value

The course was in poor condition. The tea boxes are uneven. The fairways are poor, and for the price that we paid we could've played a public course in better condition. It's not even close to being worth the money. There's a few holes on the back nine that have spectacular views but overall, it's an average course that's not kept up very well.

Great day but my play did not match

Teed off at 12:45. We had hoped to finish but the pace was a little off and our other 2-some was a bit slow. We finished 16 holes before a course marshal ended our day just before lightning started. A beautiful, challenging course. This particular day there were numerous large areas of ground under repair and it was cart path only. It carts had been 90 degree, I believe we could have finished the round. I would like to play the course again some day.

Jeff

Course was cart path only, so you have to ask when booking. Also,, the greens were unputtable, as there were at least two breaks in each put-I COULD NOT PUTT THE GREENS.

Great track but cart path only

Great course in good condition considering it was completely under water a few weeks ago. Wish I was told about this and the caet path only rule prior to booking as it makes for a long frustrating day unless you can consistently aim your shots close to the cart path... struggled hitting the greens without access to the cart gps and club(s) required. Otherwise, a good experience! Could not finish the last 2 holes due to the 1:12 tee off time, ran out of daylight.

Poor condition. With cart path only rule 18 holes is not possible after 12 noon.

As above, This time of year( November) 18 holes is impossible after 12 noon. We were a twosome at 1.12 and were pulled off for safety!!! at 5 pm . We had done 15 holes, waited on every tee and we had 3 groups behind and 6 groups ahead! They know the maths here, normally it’s $150 for 18 holes so the afternoon should be pro rata ie$95 rate is for 15 holes … 18 is not possible. Also be honest, say 5pm we shut. Our gps said we were 10 minutes in front of schedule but we couldn’t make it. The course marshal comes out and says we are closing , no warning and no sign of marshal telling 4 balls to play ready and keep moving. Just to sto when they decide as they want to go home. Just be honest and price it accordingly. Also left and tipped cart staff for taking buggy and cleaning clubs. Left a brand new ball scoop in back of cart but being hurried because it was dark and people wanted to get home, we forgot to check. Our fault but phoned this morning and the staff couldn’t be bothered after holding on phone and being cut off. It’s of course our fault but PHA west did nothing to help. I lost sunglasses at Desert Willow 3 years ago and they couldn’t do enough to help. Last time golfing for us with PGA west.

Beautiful track

We rate the Mountain course as our favorite of the PGA West options. The views, the conditions, the challenge all make it fun. Unfortunately, we could not finish the round due to darkness as the pace was slow due to cart path only.

PGA West Mountain

Very poor condition. Bare spots in fairways. Greens slow and bumpy. Pace of play slow. Asking way too much money for the conditions, not worth it.
