Greens
Overall the course was in very good condition.
With all the rain we had the greens were not receptive to a ball hit on the green they would not hold a bounce and then roll forever. With the greens cut as short as they were and pitch of greens it made cutting very difficult. I know fast greens are part of the game but with them being as hard you could not hold a good shot next to the pen. As a results long breaking putts that were unmakable. Other than that fairways are in great shape. If you get the greens in line with the rest of the course it would be a pleasure to play
Wonderful and well worth a weekday drive from the burbs
Pontiac Elks is an extremely nice golf course. Fun routing, challenging and my playing partner and I enjoyed a private country club experience from arrival to departure. 4.5 stars. Extremely well maintained and well run. With all the recent rains I called day previous and Marty in the pro shop was absolutely awesome....he provided all the information needed (and more) without prompting which even got me excited to take the hour plus drive to enjoy this gem of a facility. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and received very pertinent information from Marty in regards the current up to the minute course conditions. Despite our golfnow hot deal we were graciously allowed to tee off a tad early enabling us to beat the pm rush hour traffic back to the big city. Thank you Marty! Now on the golf course......Elks is playing really hard and fast. The greens are lightening quick....especially the downhillers. While the greens don't appear "pristine" they apparently had some poa anna issues they are extremely smooth, 12 plus stimp but are "rock hard" so only extremely well struck irons will hold the surface. An old school course with many dog legs as well as trees and water hazards that are well placed. Tight par 5's with especially challenging 2nd shots that need to be well placed for your third shot approach. Some holes feature really large greens (especially the longer par 3's). Really cool old school country club halfway house with reasonable prices. The dog leg right 10th is a wonderful par 4 and you also enjoy a most pleasing finish...a pretty dog leg left 18th requiring an over the pond approach shot with the Vermilion River to your left. Will definitely return!!
Great Course
I played on Tuesday as a Golf Now Hot Deal. I arrived about 40 minutes early for my tee time, and was told to just go ahead and start when ever I was ready. There was hardly anyone else on the course and, golfing by myself, I was able to complete the 18 holes in about 2 1/2 hours. The course was in very good shape and the greens were soft. I played this course a week earlier and the greens were rock hard. If you get a chance I woudl recommend this course.
Great course!
Love this golf course---well kept and a nice layout!
Pontiac Elks
Great experience, the staff was very nice, the course was it great shape.
Hot Deal Hot Day!
We like the course layout and it's in fantastic condition. The greens are huge and run true with plenty of heart pumping undulations. The only negative thing is that we played on a very hot day. It was 98 when we teed off; that's on us but there was no beverage cart and the halfway house was closed. The course does not turn at the clubhouse. I would suggest they convey that info when players check in. The couse boasts plenty of mature trees which we used for much needed shade at times. I will definitely play it again. BTW I love Hot Deals but I know the courses deserve to make some money so we always spend some on food, drinks, and at times equipment and clothing.
Worth the Trip
Fun course with lots of majestic old oaks. Course was in great shape and pace of play on a beautiful Sunday was perfect. Greens were hard and fast but very true. Rates on weekends are a bargain!
Beautiful course and Clubhouse
This course features bent grass tees, fairways, and greens. Plenty of mature trees and and water features. There is a also a really neat half way house serving food and beverages which has a real Caddy Shack feel to it. The staff and service are top notch! I HIGHLY recommend!
