Solid challenge, but be ready for fivesomes
Nice course with greens in great shape, grass through the green reminded me of golf courses in Seoul Korea, but admitedly it could be the on course snack bar that took me back because those are rare in SoCal. Nice overall and 4.5 hours following fives isn't bad.
Good course, pace of play stunk.
This course was nice as far as scenery goes. It has a ton of potential, however the pace of play allowed by the Marshall was outrageous. The Marshall whom we saw twice came to tell us about a trio of retired guys all over the age of 90. Being 90 and still swinging clubs is awesome, but if they’re that slow, they need to allow others to play through. However the Marshall was weak and wasn’t trying to get any other group going at a faster pace. Then the Marshall told us about another group of guys that were celebrating a birthday, yet would take about 10 strokes each and for each hole. The Marshall said, “I could make them speed up if I wanted to, but those guys are ‘JUST HAVING FUN,”. Well what the heck???? My group and the group immediately ahead of us and two behind us all wanted some fun too. Sadly, the Marshall didn’t do his job and tell those golf jokers to hurry along or step aside for the others. The round of golf for us was 5 hrs and 14 minutes and this was on a Tuesday!!!!!
Come on Los Serrano’s staff! Stop packing in so many people at once and get your management act together please. Have your Marshall’s speed slower people along.
Other than that, the course was nice and I’d play again.... I guess..
Great Course Rude Staff
I had a hot deal for $27 at 12 pm. I called in to say I wasn't off work and would arrive about 2 pm.
The woman who I spoke to said "No I cannot honor that price". I asked how much will it be at 2:15 pm. she said it would be $26. So my comment was I will be paying less but you won't honor my deal????
Some people do not have business sense!!
I play here about 4 times per year, BUT if you had nice staff people I would play here about 1/month.
The course was not BUSY!!!
Hot deal
Course was fun couldn't get a better round for the price. Lots of level changes and sandtraps. Greens in good condition !
Los Serranos
It was a beautiful day, Easy breeze and the course was in very good shape.
The was friendly and helpful. it was busy as a junior tournament was going out about the same time on the south course. Still there were several open places on the driving range. The starter directed us to the North course and we joined a nice pair of gentlemen for the round. The course was in very good condition even though the greens had been punched recently. We had a very pleasant day
Extremely slow play.
We were behind a tournament and started at 1:00pm. The only way we finished was by jumping past the last group who were almost two holes behind. Even at this, it was an over 5 hour round. Ha.d we not skipped the par 5, we would have not finished. The course did nothing to push them. When we tried to push, the response was "We're part of a tournament so we're going to enjoy it and not rush".
Nice Track
This is the less played of the 2 courses at Los Serranos..... Shorter, with smaller greens and and a nice mix of holes. Love the start with 2 par 5's with a par 3 between them lets you get off to a nice solid start.. front gets a bit more challenging 6 through 9 and the back requires a lot of attention to play it well .... it was in goods shape and is a good course.
Waiting for improvement
I had heard that Los Serranos was a terrific course and had intended to play it for a long time. I kept hearing how a top amateur event was usually held there, etc. Unfortunately, when I first played it last year, the course was in awful shape. There were many bare spots and the bunkers were just dirt. I assumed that the drought just took its toll on the course like it did on so many other courses. However, after seeing how courses that were previously in awful shape were somewhat better after the past winter, I had high hopes for Los Serranos this time. Alas, I saw little to no improvement. I kept seeing the same old bare spots on the fairways, rough and even just a few yards from the greens. The bunkers remain just hard dirt, so hard that I saw shots roll right through and out of them. The range looked ugly and the balls were mostly old and dirty. On the plus side, the greens weren't too bad and the folks in the pro shop were friendly and gave us a good deal on range balls when a golf tournament delayed our tee time by over half an hour. We were a bit surprised by a cranky old course marshall who threatened us with a slow play warning a few holes in even though the next group behind us was on the tee on a par 5 and we were on the green. Something about 13 minutes a hole. We weren't upset by it since we expected to finish the round quickly with no one left on the course after the shotgun tournament and with all three of us being fairly decent golfers (scores ranging from 74 to 83). We just found the gentleman rather bizarre and oblivious to reality. Perhaps he wasn't doing his job during the tournament that caused our half hour delay in our starting time and was reprimanded. Whatever. We were able to finish the course in four hours just as the sun set so everything worked out just fine. I'm sure the course was once in great shape judging from the omnipresent 2012 Course of the Year signs, but this course appears to be resting on its laurels. It's too bad because it is a nice course with lots of interesting holes. Was the $36 or so I paid to play worth it? Probably, but definitely not worth any more than that given the conditions. However, if the conditions were terrific, I'd be happy to pay more than double that. I hope they will turn it around. At least start by designating bare spots as ground under repair and having grass at least five yards around the green and green side bunkers. It would certainly be nice if the bunkers had some sand instead of just hard dirt.
One of my favorites
Good value, fun course, weather was great although it can get quite hot out here.
Saturday golf
Enjoyed my Saturday of golf. Course was is ok condition. They had recently punched the greens on Nothh course, so putting was ridiculous.
