Aeration
Course is wet and they just punched and sanded the greens. Otherwise, it’s still good.
Aerification
They did the aerification yesterday. Not possible to putt for a while
Twilight Thursday
5:20 Tee Time - Got 12 holes in before the sprinklers
got turned on us. Tee boxes good shape , greens had way to many non repaired dead spots from players not fixing the divots . Made putting hard as ball would roll over the spot and make an aggressive move the wrong direction .
You get what you pay for… mostly
I’m a Bogey golfer with the ability to be better and the constancy to be worse.
I’ve lived in the area a while now and have kept almost playing at Tustin Ranch and finally pulled the trigger today. 6am tee time and the course took the sunrise and somehow made it even better. Undulating fairways and wide enough that I was challenged but not overwhelmed. The staff was super friendly and I got paired with some great people. Played a little under 4 hours but could have been faster due to our group not playing great. There was gps on the carts and even hand towels. (Nice lil extra). Not super long unless you are playing blacks. Really fun course. But, and there is a small but, the greens are pretty trashed. One of the people I played with is a regular and he said they have been working on them for months now and just aren’t getting better. Mixed grass, missing grass, and some still showing signs of recent/unsuccessful punching, the greens felt like the cheap side of a muni course. But if you end a round and only 1 thing is bad and all the other things are great it still feels great. Paid $125 and 100% felt worth it… except the greens
Greens are I’m tough shape
For $150 a round you would expect a course to be in good shape. The greens here are awful. I would give this place another 3 months to allow for the maintenance team to get this course back on track.
However, if they ever get the greens, fairways and tee boxes in good shape it will be a great course. A ton of upside and pretty cool layout.
What a ripoff
Every green has ground under repair as they cut about a 4’ ring around each edge and laid new turf which hasn’t even begun to become part of the green. Greens were also aerated at some point but aren’t healing properly. Puts would literally stop in divots that were just full of sand, no grass. Top it all off with a pace of play that pushed our round within 10 minutes of being 5 hours. The cherry on top? They still continue to charge $130 for this absolute dog track with absolutely no notes, disclaimers or announcements that the course is in this condition.
And oh by the way, the GPS limitations on where you can take carts ON THE FAIRWAYS is brutally limiting. I would guess 40% of the course…the actual fairway and cut rough, are inaccessible by cart.
What a dump.
Very Frustrating
The course is not in good shape for the amount they charge. Plus the golf carts are a pain in the butt because they limit where they can go via gps. Not worth the money!
TR used to be great
This course used to be something worth paying for, not any more. I know CV challenged everyone, but this course seems to been affected more than normal. Or, they (ownership/management) just don't do a good job or don't really care. Too bad this has happened to TR. Now there are many other better options to experience in OC. I won't "never" play there again, but I won't work very hard to make it happen.
Poor Condition and Rude Marshall
It was not good annual Mother's day golf-outing at the Tustin Ranch.
The check-in was very pleasant greeted by a polite young man at the desk. He let my daughter use their putter as she forgot it at home.
The Starters were rather unprofessional gentlemen overly chattering each other with their personal matter.
There were no players ahead of us but we as foursome had to kill our time at the first tee for 15 min. (the practice green right next to the 1st tee did not have any holes). The reason was "IT IS THE POLICY, WE CAN NOT LET YOU START BEFORE THE EXACT TIME".
The course layout was beautiful.
The fairway was very poor not reflecting their rate at all. The greens were so sad; had too many divots and sands.
After the few holes done, the twosome behind started hitting up on us very close that a few times the balls came up very close to our feet. From time to time, they were behind us around 200 yards or so but it's normal. We finally saw a Marshall driving so we wanted talk to him. He waived at us so we loudly tried to take his attention several times. He probably couldn't hear us so just drove away.
On back 9 some hole, the Marshall came up to us said we are too slow. We finished front 9 in less than 2 hours. The couple's handicaps that we hooked up are 10 to 12, and my handicap is 19. We were ahead of standard pace. The Marshall (his name was ART) told us "look at behind you, they are waiting for you so play faster".
We explained we tried to take the Marshall's attention to complaint about the men behind us. The Marshall (ART) told us "Do not argue with me I am the Marshall here" He loudly shouted on us "DO NOT ARGUE WITH ME". We thought "were we argued????
What an awful experience we ever had at the rate of $150 to $170 course with the Marshall's statement of "Do not argue with me". It was very upsetting golfing day at the Tustin Ranch GC.
It was very sad that this course is our neighbor in OC.
. .
Arrogant Starters & Self-Important Marshall
Our 1st tee off as a foursome started by the arrogant chatty starters who made us wait to tee off on the tee box over 10 minutes because it was not the exact our time yet. There is no one on the fairway or green at all. The course condition was rather poor for the amount I paid ($130 May Sat. afternoon) but layout was good.
On the 10th hole, the Marshall came up to us and told us to PLAY FASTER as the golfer await us behind over 200 yards or so. They had been hitting up on us from time to time because they were 2-some, then became 3-some. Our handicap average was under 15 as one woman's handicap was a single digit.
The Marshall named "Art" told us "Do not argue with me! Just play faster!! Look behind you! They are waiting for you guys!!!" It was yelling. We tried to tell him on the front nine; trying to complaint about 2-some behind hitting up on us. He just drive away ignoring us or could not hear our loud call.
We had such a bitter terrible experiences. :-( :-(
Great Track!
A fantastic day of golf. A definite don't miss golf experience.
Another day at the Ranch...
Awesome course... quick pace and finished in 4 hours. Greens looked spotty but rolled pretty good and they did a good job of marking off the "ground under repair" areas so you don't feel back about taking a drop off a hardpan lie.
Nice course
Honest review from a 7 handicap golfer.
The course is in good condition even in the winter months. I had a early tee time of 6:50 and teed off by 6:53. Pulling into the lot I could see a decent amount of cars in parking lot and I knew it was gonna be a crowded day. Clubhouse is nice. Staff is friendly. Carts are nice.
Cons: this might not bother everyone’s, but it frustrates the heck out of me. You can barely travel on the fairways before the cart tells you to go backward.. One time i was on a hill and it said I couldn’t move forward...where the only way to get off the hill was to go backwards down a very steep hill . Pretty dangerous. Technology is cool and stuff, but the fact it’ll lock your cart 115 yards from the green (no joke, I was 115 yards away from the green and it wouldn’t let carts go any more forward on the fairway with nothing but fairway grass infront of you) and won’t let you go forward is frustrating. No golfers like it. I saw many golfers having to slowly back up to get back to the cart path. It’s a pain in the buttt.
If you like fast play I’m not sure this is the course for you. A lot of people walk the course and it’s prone to elderly. Even with a 6:50 tee time and never having to wait to hit shots, My round was still 4 hours.
I ended up shooting an 80. The course is challenging but not demanding. I was scratching my head at the greens sometimes with the amount of steep hills they had. Almost like why would you even want that on a course. I’m not talking about just a downslope or an upslope. I’m talking about slopes on greens upward of 50-60 degrees. Seems a bit much and redundant. Also the greens don’t bite very well. They were a bit sandy and I saw from previous reviews a month ago that they were sandy so they haven’t cleared that up yet.
Overall the course was fun to play for my first time. Not a long course from the blues. Many times I can play it safe with a hybrid and hit 220 off the tee and be 140 yards and in on the next shot. Some fairways are tight. Par 5’s are reachable in two with a good long tee shot. Would play again but not going to make it my home course.
What a disappointment
I will always have issue with a course that does not mention variations to the norm when you check in. First, the course was limited to cart path only. Understandable with the recent rains; however, the entire course was completely dry at the time we played and this should have been disclosed upon checking in. Additionally, the greens are in terrible shape and as a result they are growing attempting to grow out the grass on the greens, so that they can properly repair them. Completely understandable, but again, something that should be told to the player at check in. The ball could barely move on the greens throughout the course. It was almost worse than playing on punched greens.
For the money I paid, I was expecting so much more. The customer service was lousy as well and no staff member throughout the entire round - pre and post as well - ever approached us to even bother is we needed anything.
There are some amazing courses in this part of town and some are even better priced. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.
