Great value
Some of the areas on the course could use some work but all in all the course was great shape. The day I played the greens and fairways were green and plush. Some of the tee boxes were under repair but for all the par 3 tee boxes were in good shape which is what counts.
Slow and go.
The pace of play is *awful*. I think they’re repairing some of the course and finally putting some effort in to fixing it which is nice, because the layout and design really isn’t bad at all. For an Irvine golf course you’d think this place would be better taken care of and they might have a Marshall but it’s really just like other $25 dollar courses. Poor course management, 6 hour rounds and stacked tee times. The only difference is it costs upwards of 100 dollars to play here.
I will add that the staff is super nice and helpful, that has to be said because the guys they got working here are top notch.
Trying to get better
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Been coming here for 7 years now and they are trying to improve the course. The greens roll true and are fairly quick. The green side bunkers are awful. No shallow sand hinders traditional bunker play
Cannot figure out why this course is always a quagmire. There has been no rain the preceding week yet the couse is a muddy mess in places
OK for the money. Pace of play is reasonable
NEEDS MARSHALL BADLY
Had a noon tee time on a Sunday. The course conditions have gotten a lot better since a couple months ago within occasional part of the course that could use some tender loving care. However, there were at least five holes that I counted where there were at least three groups. Deep waiting to play a hole. By the time our group got to the 18th hole, the cart was reading that we were 45 minutes behind pace. Although it was a bargain compared to some other nearby courses, it would be wise to play at another course until rancho San Joaquin can get this figured out.
Looks like they are investing in the course
It had been at least six months since I last played here. Overall the course was in better condition than the last time I played. The greens are good which always nice. You can tell they are investing in the course as they've relandscaped areas that had been neglected and there were roped off areas where work is in progress. Looking forward to playing it again in a few months.
Greens are faster and roll well
This course has had its issues in the past and continues to have some challenges but I see improvements every time I play. The greens today were much faster ( which I prefer) and rolled well. Bad patches of fairway had new sod placed over them and you can see that efforts are being made to make the course more playable. I encourage the new ownership to keep it up the improvements!
Rainy Day
got a "hot deal" so couldn't cancel unless the course closes. so of course course didn't close so went out as a single. played first 5 holes in record time walking in the rain, and then hit the RSJ traffic jam. of course they let the course marshall so home, so proceed to plod along behind a 3 some playing a 6 hour round pace. Then hear Thunder on the 12th hole and called it a day.
golfnow needs to re-examine their rain policies. the courses will never close because of revenue so most likely you are playing in the rain if you book a hot deal.
Still a mediocre track
Play yesterday after not going back after 10 years. People said they put lots on money into the course and improved it. I think it’s the same mediocre track it’s always been. Boring layout, fairways in poor condition, sand traps were hard or mud, greens were the only good feature. They have overwatered the entire course … so many shots out of mud, puddles everywhere, and even deep mud tracks from their own equipment. Sure would be nice to have a local OC course to go to … but this ain’t it!
Interesting greens, dusty fairways
The greens here are interesting and in good shape. For me this is the most important part of the course and that compensates for other shortcomings. Pace of play was decent: 4.5 hours starting at 11:30 on a Monday. (Please reviewers: if you report pace please let us know when you started and give us actual numbers!) Bunkers were also in good shape but with many unraked footsteps given my later tee time (c'mon people!).
The layout is interesting but there are a few holes that seem to repeat themselves. Fairways are typical LA muni: lots of dirt patches. Fine if you're playing winter rules.
Not worth the cost
$94 for a weekend rate is not worth the cost of play for this course. Because the course is located in a city where the median income is slightly higher than other cities, the cost doesn’t justify the condition of the course, the service from staff, the layout and design, and lack of amenities, etc. I will not come back nor will i recommend this course over any of the other courses asking $100 in green fees.
Golf carts
The only complaint I have is that the range is away from the starter and they would not release our cart to us because we were 45 minutes early and they said that we would have to walk to the range
