A hidden gem
I enjoyed the inspiring layout and its demand of my ability to navigate.
If you come to play this summer keep the drought in mind as you will likely find the need to play winter conditions on the fairways. The course offers some reasonable deals on greens fees.
I found the Malibu club worthy of the trek and will likely return.
Very, very dry course
Fairways and tee boxes were brown, sand in bunkers was hard. They seem to only be watering the greens.
NEEDS WATER. Course is a desert! Does not play well.
If you're used to dirt tee boxes and brown fairways, you may just love this course in its current state. Its clearly not in its normal state, suffering extreme water cutbacks during the current drought. It needs several months of steady watering to be worth the $40 green fees I paid.
Great if you like elevation changes
Great layout. Challenges your club selection due to elevation changes, also a few forced carries. Appears to be one of the most affected by the current drought, since the fairways and tees barely show any sign of water.
ENDLESS PLAY
$40 to Ride and play ENDLESS golf at a good course, (27 holes with at least 2-3 balls into each hole if I did not like a shot.) Great way to practice on a good course. Does not get better than that. Even at the turn, food was good and not over priced
Course is fun
Fairways are in bad shape but that's because they are renovating the course
Excellent features
The course utilizes the quick elevation change from the hills surrounding to create drops from the tee and challenging fairways. Palm trees and hills provide for potential however the grass is in desperate need of a drink. Golden and withered the so called grass gave no support for a ball. Despite these conditions, the layout is fantastic.
Fairgrounds with holes 400 yards out
This once nice course now resembles a fairground more than a golf course. The fairways are in far worse condition than Lost Canyons. Even at a discount of $50 this course isn't even worth it.
another bad transition for this corse
what happen 3 weeks ago it was in good shape on 7/13 dog track dry ugly so sad.
Malibu is on downward slide
Very poor quality track. Not worth $50! Too bad, since it is in a beautiful setting.
Malibu dried out
Malibu CC is all but ready to close in the fall to begin new construction of facilities and the golf course.
As a result they are letting the course pretty much dry out and giving little care for the balance of the season. The paths are like off roading they are so delapitated. Still it is a really neat location buried in the Santa Monica Mountains. Should be awesome when the new club returns.
Course dry and unkept
Malibu used to be a very pretty course. Maybe because it's summer, but it was very dry, scraggly, and dusty. If you didn't bring water, it was nowhere to be found. Bathrooms on the course did not have sinks. Disappointing as I have fond memories of this course
Would not recommend this course to anyone.
This course used to be well kept, but several factors have now brought this course down to an almost unplayable condition. The rough is all dead, the fairways are barely alive, and the greens have fast and slow spots that make some putts ridiculous even when they went in. The cart paths are in need of repaving to the point where you need a kidney belt to go 5mph. It was almost sad to see after playing this course religiously a few years back when it was in its prime.
Deteriorated course conditions make this unsatisfactory.
Course used to be in fine shape. Now it's like the munis in LA like Encino and Balboa. Bad fairways with lumpy bumpy crabcrass, holes and divots. Lots of rough missing and now just dirt, sometimes with a sprinkling of crabgrass. Grass growing down into the bunkers shows a lack of serious meaningful maintenance. Must be the drought or lack of business. Didn't use to be this way. I admit I got a great deal through GolfNow and paid only $9 to play today, and it was okay for that money. If I paid the $100 the course sometimes charges I'd be mystified how they get away with it. The course is hard enough with big elevation changes, narrow fairways, and lots of trees, without having to hit off hard dirt in the fairways or to hit it in rough, only to find no grass there, just dirt. And the greens were smooth but slow for a course based on a "country club" atmosphere. You'll take your chances fellow golfers. I definitely wouldn't pay more than $20 to play this again, but I won't be coming back till I hear the course is lush again. It's work, not fun.
Beautiful course, blind tee shots, lots of elevation change
This is a challenging course, especially the first time out b/c there are several blind tee shots that must be well executed, and a lot of elevation change throughout the course. The greens rolled well and had a lot of undulation. The course is in a great setting tucked into the Malibu hills, with some great views. Only slight downside was the bad shape of the cart paths, which isn't that big of a deal.
Need to fix the rough
You won't see any rough, mostly dried out.. Although the greens are not so bad
my son and me
The course was fun and I liked the views. The cart paths are hammered and the layout seemed old school. On that note I did enjoy the coarse. On the 9th tee was an old Hawk that was not afraid of people. The coarse is about to be demolished and a new layout to be designed and installed. Sorta feel bad to see her go but excited about a new coarse. anticipating much higher FEE'S, so hope I can still play the new one. I will play her at least once more to say good bye to a good OLD soul. A sad day to be sure.
It was okay
The greens were fast and true but really sloped. Pin positions were near impossible. Fairways were super dry and patchy. Tee boxes were dry, hard, sloped and patchy. Relatively short course but very challenging. Tight tee shots, you have to hit the ball straight.
