Need some maintenance work
Like the other courses in this area for the time of the year, there are a lot of bare and brown spots without grass on the fairways in the South Course. The greens are OK but need a lot of maintenance wok for the fairways. Layout is confusing. The course needs eye-catching signposts to remark "
Hole Number " or "Path to the next Hole" to guide golfers. I have played this course several times before but this time it was the worst condition to play. Hoping the condition will be improved.
Fun Place to play
It's not a hard course, but if you shoot straight it is fun. Only a couple of holes are difficult, Good place just to enjoy yourself.
Awesome greens, dry spots all over
As my review title states: the greens are awesome, but there are dry (plain dirt) areas all over.. that is the bad part. other than that, it is a dull, little interesting course for is completely flat, no real challenges except for a couple over the water fairways..I guess overall it is OK.
Best local value
Outstanding amenities, with great practice facilities, club house, friendly staff and two great courses.
Admiral Baker South
Admiral Baker is one of the best values for the price. The greens were in excellent condition and the fairways were looking pretty good. The ruff was up on several holes and you paid the price for hitting in there. Looking forward to playing the North next week and probably have a similar report. Our round was just under 4 hours long which by any standard is acceptable.
Decent
Course is in decent shape for how hot it has been in San Diego this past month. Greens are good. The only negative is the crab grass that is all around the greens and fairways. It’s like hitting on shaggy carpet that your club gets stuck in. Not very fun to hit from. This is the first time that I have played he South course in a few years, so maybe they layed down some new grass. Will probably not play the South again.
Great values
The greens were in great shape and pace of play was good. It did seem that there were several bare spots in most fairways that needed attention. Overall very playable and a good experience from everyone in our foursome.
Jhartigan
The south is a solid course to play, it’s pretty flat but the south fairways are staring to get a little beat up and it seems like more and more people don’t like fixing pitch marks on the greens. It’s shorter than the north course which makes for lower scores since the white tees are the tips for the south. One of the nicest things about this course compared others in San Diego is that it isn’t in top houses so if you hit a bad shot you’ll still probably lose your ball but at least you’re not hitting a house. I like this place a lot and I’ll keep playing there, only down side is that you can’t book as a single unless your a member.
Fore!
Admiral baker South golf course is basically a glorified Municipal. The layout of the course is confusing and not at all receptive to fast play. The greens were atrocious and slow in the fairways were brown and spotty at best. With the layout of the course the word “fore” was yelled at a Minimum of 20 times during our round. It literally became a running joke as to how many times we would hear it. Would not recommend this course as there are many others to play in San Diego.
South, North, both great options
Front nine is pretty easy given the short par 4's and 3 par 5's. Back nine is tough with the run of par 4's you have to go on. Never really need to pull out driver on this course if you can hit any other club consistently straight, 200 yards. Course was in great condition given the summer heat and lack of rain. Bunkers were a problem, as is the case with most courses in San Diego in this price range. Overall, great course and look forward to playing again soon.
Great place to work on your game
This is a great course to make sure you can hit the ball where you want. Fairly forgiving, but with a few challenges.
good value
Baker south is the easier of the two courses, but with small greens by today's standards, your chipping game needs to be on. Even being a short course, your greens in regulation might be low. There's a little hardpan in the fairways, but all things considered, the course is in good shape. The facilities are very nice and with a great pace of play for a Saturday, we really enjoyed our day/
More Than a Pleasant Surprise
Other than the greens being punched, this was a great golf day.
Admiral Baker South
Great day weather wise and the pace of play was 4hrs & 20 min. The other course was closed for a tournament and was concerned with the pace on the South. Worked out ok and a slight delay on a few holes.
Keep this place a secret.....lol
Many long-time golfers come to this course and over the years you get to play with quite a few very nice people. Rob and Robert , the starters, are really nice guys. Fairways could use some attention on the south course. I wish they were as nice as the ones on the north course. The greens on the south course really hold and are in very good condition.
Course conditions
I think the fairways are excellent. The bunkers need some work on some holes. Greens were too slow and neeed to be rolled. Tee box was in good shape
