Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Nice Par 3’s
Enjoyable game at Rocky Point - welcomed by a friendly starter who paired us with a single which helped pace of play as it would have felt even slower as a twosome. Courses really should increase time gaps within their booking systems. Some recent reviews had not looked encouraging but not sure why as course was really good for time of year. Greens were lovely, smooth and quick enough to be testing. Plenty grass on fairways which is all that matters. One or two quirky holes where it is tough to judge placement of tee shot to avoid hazards but otherwise very enjoyable and would recommend!!
sheep pasture
Tees all beat up .Fairways sheep pastures .Some greens in great shape but strange some greens where super fast and others are soooo slow .Overall not in my top 50 courses .I've played well over 1000 courses and I would put this course # 552 not good in my book .
Very Slow Play
Tee time was 12:40 and we started exactly at that time as a twosome, so no wait there, but we were quickly delayed on our second shot waiting for the foursome in front of us who had to wait on the ones in front of them and so on through 18 holes. We finished at 17:38 so 5 hour when our normal time is 2:45-3:30 to play 18. That I would say is a negative when it came to value for the money. The staff was very friendly and patient with everyone.
Rocky G C
Good valve for money, not more. The fairway need care.
Rocky Point G.C.
Interesting course to play. The Marshall doesn’t know how to do his job effectively. But he’s not to be blamed if he wasn’t trained properly. The course requires some TLC
( tender loving care ). Especially the fairways , the greens are nice. Enjoy 🏌️♂️⛳️🏌🏻♀️
First time in the area
It was my first time in the Tampa area to play golf. I tried to do a little online research ahead of time, and this course was listed on a couple sites that considered it in their top 10. I definitely didn't feel that was the case, or that means there aren't a lot of good public golf courses in the Tampa area. The conditions, particularly the fairways, were mediocre, and the layout was a little too quirky for me.
Feb 15/23 play
First time, pace on a Wednesday noon tee time, 3 hours 50 minutes! Fairways reasonable, greens soft and holding! Great value for a shorter but demanding course, need to know bounces as well as whereabouts of the hazards ( some not visible) all in all a good time!
very good greens
This course is always busy
The greens were in very good shape
Pace of play was 4 hours and 15 minutes
Fairways as always were average
Staff was friendly and courteos
Good value when you get a decent price
I gladly pay $39 for a 12 pm tee time
The pace is awesome
We played in the middle of the day in 3.5 hours. AND we had people in front of us the whole time... people behind us the whole time... there was a crowd..young people, old people... the pace of play was great. The course is what FL public courses are this time of year... not the prettiest or greatest condition but good enough. Course has some good holes on it.. Par 3's are too short but rest of the course is pretty good layout. Nice place to play. Snack bar persons are great and pro shop was good too.
Above average muni course
Enjoyed the round but didn't get to play the last 3 holes due to rain and back up. Pace of play was fine until the last 3. Tee boxes and greens were in good shape compared to the muni courses I typically play. A few holes have water in play but the course is fairly wide open and rough is minimal.
Challenging but fair — and fun
We enjoyed our round. Plenty of opportunities to “go wrong,” especially on the back 9. But a well designed course and fun to play.
Great muni
Played early afternoon. Course in great condition. Greens were very good. Pace of play very good as well. Had a great afternoon playing Rocky point.
