The par-4 1st hasn't changed much, but it does look a lot sharper! Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 08/15/2020

Cart policy during COVID
Avoid this course. They paired a fourth with our threesome and told us that we would be forced to share a cart with someone that was not member of our group/household. If you value your health and saftey choose somewhere else to play.
Great course from blue tees
Abfew more short par 4s then Nwoukd like but a fun track to play. Much better layout than old course.
Cart Path a Bummer
This is a beautiful course in really nice shape. Challenging greens and respectable layout.
We had a group of 2 foursomes with some elderly good players.
We were not told of the cart path rule until we got to the first Tee. That was not good !
Davis Love redesign
Enjoyable round despite the intermittent rain. Zoysia fairways were new and friendly. Use caution on no.8....lots of ways to make a double or triple bogey. Excellent finishing holes...16-18. Only negative were three holes with blind drives that required caution to avoid hitting into players.
Play with someone who knows the course
A lot of blind shots. Play with someone who has played the course before. Was not informed of cart only. Would have walked if I had known. Crazy backup on the back 9
Jaw-dropping changes, still a fantastic course
I'll be honest, when I heard that they had redesigned this course without including my two favorite holes from before AND raised the greens fees over $100... I came in to this round not really wanting to like it. I mean, for up to $140, how good can it be?
Well, the answer is REALLY good. I was blown away by how different the course looks from before. To go from a design suited for a small city resort to one that could host top-level tournaments, the transformation is significant. The fairways are wider, the contrast of the light green zoysia fairways and the dark green bent grass rough makes the whole course "pop" and the golden fescue just adds an extra layer to the visuals.
In terms of the layout itself, I'm still bummed about the removal of the short par-3 12th with its island green and the downhill par-3 4th with is fun green complex. There's also a couple new holes I'm not a huge fan of but overall the design is fantastic. It's a perfect blend of challenging and fun and the conditions match the design with lush grass everywhere and smooth bunkers.
I found the staff to be very friendly here, especially the starter. There was no pace-of-play issues though the course was pretty wet from the night before so it was cart-path only. My 3-some still finished in about 4 hours.
As for the cost, well, I never thought I'd say this but it's actually a pretty good value. With conditions that now rival nearby Spring Creek and a walking rate of $75 on a Friday morning (on a course much easier to walk now than Spring Creek), I'd say this is the better value. Once they host a major tournament here, they could probably charge $150+ and it still be reasonable.
So despite all my negativity going into my round, I left really impressed with the new Birdwood. I highly recommend you give it a try to decide for yourself.

Save your money
Save your money. The course is overpriced for what it is. It is in decent shape and the practice facilities are nice but not worth 100$ plus to play. Starter did not know what they were doing, not instructing which groups were suppose to play with who. Tee times need to be more staggered for the amount of money they are charging. Waiting on every single shot for the group in front of you while the group behind you stares at you. The course did not open to long ago, but there was absolutely no reason to have cart path only on a hundred degree dry summer day. Greens were bumpy and do not mirror the price you are paying. Save your money and play two rounds somewhere else for the price of one here
“Love it”
First time playing the “new Birdwood”, and love the changes! Glad they incorporated some of the old course, especially old #18 into the home stretch of the back nine. The zoysia fairways are a plus and the natural areas add a “links feel” to the layout. Can’t wait to play it again!
Got Screwed on weather cancallation
We only got to play 1 hole then lightning delay. When course didn't open back up we only got $60 voucher, not a rain check for another round???? Pro was very rude and was only worried about money. Now when we got back it will cost us another $30 minimum with the $60 voucher. So we got no "Hot Deal", we still have to pay full price to play the course!!!!!
Nicest course I've ever played
Beautify fairways, true greens (even after it poured rain mid round) the carts have gps in them! The rough is like tour rough. But the course has 5 tees to chose from to fit your skill level
Beautiful course, great layout
Greens are a bit firm and soles inconsistent due to newness but everything else was goos
Hot day, wonderful staff
I called on 7/4 trying to get out as a single. They said come out on but no guarantees. I arrived and checked in, the staff took me out and introduced me to starter and gave me a free token for range will I waited. I realize it was going to be busy and was not getting my hopes up. But I was out in less than 40 minutes. Front nine is way easier than the hilly back 9. I was paired with 2 members who could not have been nicer. I understand Davis Love group is coming in to totally remodel the course in the fall. I will definitely try it if I end up back in Charlottesville .
Sloooooooow
Very nice course in good condition. Second time I've been able to score a "Hot Deal" with golf now. Both times I did not finish and left early due to the pace of play. Very disappointing! I will not play here again on a weekend, which again is disappointing because I travel from two hours north when I visit my family in Charlottesville. I understand why I was able to get the "Hot Deals".
