About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Cahoon Plantation in Chesapeake originally opened with a 27-hole layout but it has seen a major transformation since opening. One of the nines was eliminated and the flat terrain was molded into a gently rolling championship layout. The golf course has mostly parkland holes but there are some that have a links-feel, guaranteeing that there's enough variety to please any golfer. The layout is mostly wide open with very few trees to obscure the views. Water comes into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are a few strategically placed bunkers as well. The 15th hole is Cahoon Plantation's best par 3. The green is well protected by bunkers and a small pond but there is still an opportunity for a birdie, which will probably be your last chance for one before you face the difficult closing stretch of holes.

I got divots!!
A great course to have the opportunity to play on (especially on Labor Day). Great price! GolfNow makes it easy to decide what my plans are on my days off or when friends and I want to play a course we might not have considered. Cahoon Plantation has the best fairways I've had the pleasure to play on (didn't ask but was told afterwards it is bentgrass). Soft, not too spongy, and did I mention that I actually hit divots? Made me feel like a real golfer!
AWESOME COURSE
excellent condition, unforgiving rough, lots of construction going on which took away from the natural beaty.
Nice course but overbooked.
T times were bunched togeather. Starting groups on both nines. We were stuck behind a group that was struggling and didn't have the courtesy to speed up or let us play through. We finally had to skip a hole to get around them. The course was wide open after that and enjoyable.
Punishes missed fairway shots.
Course isn't particularly long, but hitting the fairways is more critical than most courses. Rough is high and dense. Greens weren't their best when I played due to a lot of rain the day prior.
Great course
Plays longer than it looks. But a great course maintenance wise.
Great Course
The course is extremely nice has bent grass through out the fairways which is so nice to hit off of. I will say that it is a challenging course and i would only reccomend going if you have your game ready to go. also the normal price is a little on the steep side so if you can find it for around 30 bucks its a steal. it is a bit of a drive down there but i feel it is worth it.
Beautiful Course, well-maintained
This is the second time I have played here and again it was great. The greens were a little thicker than last time, but understandable because it had rained a lot the last couple of days.
Pace of play was a little slow because there was some kind of junior tournament. But who cares?
Great Course
This has to be my favorite course. Fairways and greens are in great shape. The course challenges you and rewards well placed shots. The staff is very nice and the course is great from 1 to 18.
Good course with challenging water hazards.
I found the course to be challenging and a beautifully maintained. I have played twice this season and consider it to be one of my favorites in the area.
Execptional fairways and great greens.
Best fairways in Hampton Roads. Greens were in terrific shape- tough to read in spots (played with a member who shared some tips around the green- where the subtle breaks were). Some very interesting holes, a couple difficult holes and a number of scoring holes- very enjoyable course. Although I paid for a cart, via internet, was allowed to walk (need the exercise)- no issues. Recommend you grab the course summary and know where the pin placement is, tough to score without.
Great course
Staff very helpful. Course in great shape. Some golfers need to fix their ball marks on greens this is a problem on most courses these days. Very good course for the money and challenging but not overwhelming for middle handicappers.
The course was in good condition.
This is course is one which I would recommend for anyone to play. The course (tee box, fairway and greens) were in very good shape.
ok
it was just that ok. I am back east 4 about a mo just playin some golf and what I have found is it looks 2 me that these courses get a nice review and maybe were a little underplayed b4 and now with increased play maybe staff becomes a little overwhelmed because it seems collection areas are covered in unrepaired divots and greens unrepaired ballmarks as much a fault of lazy players as overwelmedd staff I,m sure clean up after yourselves fellas and ladies it works out better 4 all thanx
This course is one of my favorites in the area
Staff was polite and helpful. The course was for the most part in great shape. The recent rain looked to be the culprit for the lack of sand in some traps. Greens were well maintained by staff as always but appeared to have many ball marks that were not repaired. Maybe a focus on ball repair by way if a divot repair tool with each round. At any rate it was a relatively minor blemish on an otherwise great afternoon of golf. Would definitely return at the rate offered through golfnow.
Overall a very nice course and well worth playing. Great value.
We played on Friday, July 12, 2013. There were thunderstorms in the area the night and morning before we played, so understandably the course was very wet. Drainage appears to be very good, however, and standing water did not interfere significantly with our play.
The course overall was in excellent condition. The greens are generally small, and somewhat flat with no significant undulations. They were in great shape though. The mixture of holes is balanced with some longer par 4's and some more modest in length. Fairways (very well maintained and in great shape) are generous. The mounds designed into the course present some challenges to an otherwise flat layout.
I believe the overbuilding (on the day we played there was construction of new homes going on) of houses that encroach on the fairways create a kind of claustrophobic feel to the overall layout of the course. Although the course is certainly enjoyable, the overabundance of houses that occupy every free inch along every fairway takes away from the aesthetics of the layout.
Pace of play (although on the day we played the weather must have kept many golfers away) was excellent.
Cahoon Plantation will certainly be on my list of preferred courses to play whenever I am in the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach area!
Great course!
Course was in great condiftion and pace of play was excellent.
I would recommend those in Hampton Roads give it a try!
Great layout
Great course. Very enjoyable round with my wife. Challenging and fun for both of us! Course in great shape and staff was helpful and super friendly:) will definitely play again soon.
Great course, well cared for
Great fairways, perfect greens, enough water to keep you alert. Plenty of sand bunkers & lots of hills . a few houses on back 9. I will be back.
great course
The course makes me not want to play any place else
Cahoon Plantation
This course is in great shape. The greens roll true and you can stop the ball with approach shots. Don't get off the fairway! Some holes have tall rough and you need to remember where your tee shot went. Will definitely play this course again!
