Poppy Ridge always a fantastic round
Poppy Ridge has two personalities: windy, or not. When windy, this course can become extremely challenging, especially the many holes atop ridges. Without wind, it's still beautiful but not as challenging. Pace of play is good, even on an busy Sunday. Staff have always been great to me. Course conditions, even in December, are fantastic -- greens rolling very fast today. I only wish it was closer to home for me.
pace of play very slow for a weekday
but we enjoyed the course none the less just weird having to wait at every hole to play on a weekday
Poppy Ridge play
pace of play was fine during first nine holes. Second nine (Merlot) was slow due to walking players and course elevations on Merlot nine.
First Look at NCGA Course
My first impressions of the course were positive. It's got a lot of challenging holes. Greens were in great shape, fairways had some brown spots, but not bad considering it's Nov. with no rain to fill in the gaps. Look forward to playing again when I'll have a better idea of how to play many of the holes.
I would rate it 4.5 out of 5.0. Very nice course. Good condition from tee to green and straightforward layout. Good pace (4.25 hours). Minor snit; no GPS on cart.
Showed up No carts
We all showed up but decided not to play because they had no carts to rent. I payed but never got my money back.
fancy but not well managed
Poppy Ridge is one of fancy courses I visit once a year or so, and it became a lot more expensive lately. The condition of the fairway was not very impressive. I had to hit from the dirt(no grass) at the fairway as there was no grass. It seems to me that they punched the fairway some time ago, but the grass didn't come back to life at all. The green was very slow and bumpy, thus the ball was not rolling straight. I am not so familiar with how the green gets managed, but I guess they didn't cut the green for a while.
Gone down hill
As the home course of the NCGA, Poppy *used to be* in great shape - not so much anymore. Granted, these are covid times, and we just had 2 days of 100+ temps, but the course was really in poor shape. Bare patches in the fairways, spotty tee boxes, and the greens, which used to be firm and fast, were lumpy and bumpy. Won’t be back for a while...
Good course, however, it was very windy
1st time played here from south bay. NCGA owned, so it's a very good course, However, we picked the wrong day as it was so windy to play.. The course condition is very good though.
Nice Course
Course is one of the better maintained courses in the Bay Area. 4 hrs to play with noon tee time.
