The Golf Club at The Highlands

nice course in great shape. The greens are excellent but FAST. This is a tough course.

Overall good experience, we have had significant rain in the area so won’t punish the course for conditions. Was a little surprised at the many growths on the greens. I play another course in the area with Bermuda greens and they didn’t have those growths in theirs. Made putting unfair depending where you were on the green. Don’t know if that was a weather cause; but, it would have been the same at the other course as well. I love playing the course because of layout and greens.

Due to a couple rain days in the area from previous days, the course was very soggy and wet however the greens here are like a glass table and run REALLY fast. Putting was challenging, but fun.

Overall I think it wasn’t the best day to go out for a round due to the wet conditions but we are still in that time of year where the Bermuda grass is still dormant. I’d love to come back and see what this course looks like in the summer.

Hit a hole in one on hole 17 with my golf partner (my 5 year old) there to see it. He was more excited than I was and that made the whole round magical! I appreciate this course and it being in great shape year round. Greens rolled true all day!

Early Spring round, Highlands is in great shape. Greens rolling true, new bunkers conditioned perfectly, tee boxes in good condition as well. Fun, challenging course. Staff super friendly. Highly recommend.

Packed course on a Saturday. People behind us were lined up at 12:00pm for a 12:20 tee time but I guess they figured they’d just help themselves. We had a 12:00pm tee time and were lined up behind another group who was waiting on a group in front of them. Rules were cart path only on this particular day. We finally tee off, and proceed to be hit into for the entirety of the next 18 holes. Drives at time literally landing 5 yards away. Standing on the green, people are taking iron shots less than 120 out. Meanwhile we still can’t tee off as we pull up to the tee box 9/10 times because the group in front of us is still in the fairway. There are groups piled up both in front and behind of the players on either end of us so there’s literally no solution to be had. Golf club could have starters and Marshall’s but either way it’s the players who ruined this absolutely beautiful course for me. Course conditions were outstanding - players were the worst I’ve ever dealt with.

Made a tee time to play 1/15/24 in advance on 1/10/24. The following day on the 1/11/24 my tee time for the 15th was inexplicably canceled. I’m also out of my $9 reservation fee according to GolfNow, even though the cancellation wasn’t generated by me.

This is poor business.

Greens are in great shape. Very diverse set of holes layout will test all aspects of your game.

The course is not long, but the severe elevation changes lead to blind tee shots and, if you're not long off the tee, blind second shots. Many holes have hazards 80-100 yards before the green. If you choose to lay up, and can't see the landing area, then getting a sense from the yardage book of where to aim is critical. Luckily, the yardage book is complimentary, maybe because of the blind shots and also because the carts don't have GPS.
The green complexes are very difficult - severe slopes and fast as lightning. It's critical to keep your ball below the hole, as a long downhill putt risks going off the green. This made front pins more challenging than back pins.
We had cold morning weather that warmed up beautifully. The course was in good fall shape - matted down fairways that gave a lot of tight lies, but well-covered with no big bare spots. No thick rough to speak of, one of the course's main defenses is that there's nothing to stop your ball.
Easy-going staff and frequent visits from the cart girl; overall a challenging course with beautiful surroundings at a good price. Very happy with the experience!

Highlands never disappoints. Greens were rolling fast and true.

Haven’t played here in a few years. In that time they have replaced all the greens and all the bunkers. So the greens I was hearing a lot of complaints about, very hard, very fast, etc. and having played them now, I think a high handicapper wouldn’t like that kind of green. To be fair, not a single green in regulation left a mark on the green so they are indeed stiff but mostly true. We’ve had some very cold spells so they weren’t mowed and rolled when I played. Things are starting to get to dormancy here on the piedmont, so I will definitely check it out next summer.

Greens were perfect and fast. Contacted friends from out of town to let them know the fantastic conditions of the course, thus we are playing there again on Thursday! Staff was also extremely friendly...

Greens, fairways and tee boxes all in tip top shape. Tough to stop the ball on the greens with all the slope on the greens on approach shots and chips. Best to leave the ball below the hole. A bit slow with a lot of twosomes out there but a georgeos day and great scenery, always nice to be on this course.
