Best shape this year
It has been several years since I played this course but it will not be long before we play it again. The greens were in amazing shape, the tee boxes beautiful, the fairways almost pristine. The course was in amazing shape. The new layout (new ownership since I last played) has clearly taken good care to make this course great to play.
For a Saturday morning in October we were surprised that there were so few People playing. We had no one in front or behind for the first 7 holes. We did come up on the twos one un front of us who was waiting on the 3-some ahead of them. Even with the slight delay as we made closed the front and made the turn, we still finished 18 holes in just over 4 hours. (Which seems to be a foreign concept in Richmond lately)
One MINOR area for improvement- the signage to find the pro shop was a bit frustrating…..
Hi, K2enters. We would love to hear more about your positive experience on our course. Please contact us to share with us your favorite part of your experience. Thanks for golfing at The Golf Club at The Highlands!
Must play 2 thumbs up
Have no complaints what so ever, from the time I arrived to upon leaving./ Course is in great shape and challenging ,Greens were fast & true. Chip & putt will be tested if you never played here.
Rock hard greens, long grass
The Highlands is a great course and well worth playing but has lost some playability since the greens were redone. They are smooth, fast, rarely show ball marks and roll well but they are hard to hold and with the fairway grass so long and thicker rough even wedges from the fairway take yards to stop. A challenge is great but it really takes away from the course when shots become too difficult. The course was CPO though it did not seem necessary. Could have been 90 deg and avoid wet areas. I still don’t understand why some courses don’t allow golfers to go 90 deg in rough only. It would make it easier on the golfers and speed up the pace. There were some issues with green speed inconsistency but they were minor. I hope the Highlands can get the greens just a little softer and playable without sacrificing them to ballmarks that plague so many other courses. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of water on the course and was told “ we don’t do that anymore.” Great course and very nice bar/restaurant to enjoy after round refreshments.
New bermuda greens are NICE!
I have played The Highlands for many years. Overall great course and a fun laytout. Love the finishing 18th hole - just when you think your going to break 80 - the 18th hole is there to greet you. The new bermuda greens are AWESOME. They completly change the difficulty level of the course. They are running fast and true. If you get above the hole - good luck stopping it. Love the greens. Great work guys!!!
Best Value in RVA
Greens are in good shape. If you catch a deal or play off peak, it’s the best value in the area. Also like that it has more 3’s and 5’s which break up the course a bit.
Nice Golf course
Greens and fairways were in great shape! A couple of tee boxes need a little attention, but overall a great course. If it wasn’t for a quick storm that came through, would have been a perfect golfing afternoon.
Challenging fun
Great and challenging course! Multiple changes in elevation, blind spots, hidden traps and hazards. It was so frustratingly awesome. I’ll definitely be back
Great value
Not too many bells and whistles but course is in great shape and price was right. Carts were older, distance markers were scarce at times, and no beverage service (although you see that a lot of places now)…if you want to nitpick they could step up those amenities. But staff and members were very friendly and in my experience that isn’t always when I use golf now for a private club. Cool spot and if I lived closer I’d consider joining.
Great value…challenging greens
Really enjoyed this course. For a $52 hot deal it’s a no brainer. Liked it more than most courses I find on GolfNow in the Richmond area. Fairways and teeboxes were in decent shape but greens were great…and fast. We played on a Monday which is evidently when they “paint” the course so I got blue paint on my shoes, sunglasses, or anything else that touched the ground. No cart service in Mid-June was a bummer but staff shortages are everywhere. Clubhouse beer and food selection is way above average. Nothing extra on the scorecard or hole-sign to help you navigate the course. But if your main concern is value for the course like 90% of the people on GolfNow, this is worth it.
Fast green
I played there 3 months ago, it was a bad shape like fully covering with rocks in the bunker. I know it used to be nice cource, so i trid one more time... it was awesome..sand is so soft, thegreen is so fast!! I will go there soon again
Don't come hungry
Now that they've redone the greens there are very few ball marks on them since they are much firmer than before. They are quicker than some courses, but roll nicely. Tee boxes could use some work, but overall course was in pretty good shape. Snack bar was closed so there was no place to get a sandwich unless you wanted to sit down for a meal mid-round.
You must love fast greens
The course was in excellent shape and the greens are very fast. This is a pretty challenging course, which I enjoy, but not unfair. The people there are nice to deal with.
Thanks so much for the great review, u609040649. We look forward to welcoming you back to our course soon. Thanks for choosing The Golf Club at The Highlands.
