Work To Be Done
This course is a low cost local, but the owners don't seem to take much effort in making the greens & fairways a priority to fix. Really, really poor for the area.
Not worth what they are charging
Course conditions are horrible for the amount they are charging. Greens are still bare and fairways are in need of some much needed up keep. Tee boxes are uneven. Best part of round was it wasn't busy so pace of play was not an issue. Staff was was very friendly. This course really has the layout to be very special, but only if they put some serious money in renovations.
Sad state
I use to play this course often when my Father was alive. The course from those days doesn’t even come close. They should actually not charge to play this course at this time. Weeds are taking over the greens . More dirt than grass on the fairways. I have seen driving ranges with better grass and greens. Please someone buy this course and turn it around. On the right shape this course could get 85-100 per round like Avery Ranch or Forest Creek. Please either fix this course or just close it. How sad to see the shape this course has gotten to

It’s improving, all sand bunkers are still just grass but the greens are getting better.
Skip this course
We played this course many times during covid. The greens were rough but cost was like $12/person. Fast forward 3 yrs course conditions are even worse but cost is now full price..
Worst course in Texas
Atrocious conditions. Literally ranked for top worst courses in Texas. It’s insane they are charging $48-50 on a weekend to play at this course. Greens were literally dead with sand bunkers and dirt chunks spread across the area. Fairways were horrible as well. Would not play this course ever again for more than $15
Course needs to be revamped. The greens are terrible.
In Need of Fixing Up
As someone who just started playing golf a few months ago, Blackhawk was a safe haven of value and speed where you could go get a round for under $25 and play at your own pace with minimal oversight.
With some new management, Blackhawk is trying to become more like other courses and has lost a lot of the value it offers. The course is poorly maintained - especially the greens. There are no sand traps, but you will find sand on the greens. While the greens have moderate undulation, there are several random patches of grass that will affect your putt, so be prepared to count 5-10 extra strokes.
The new staff are a lot less friendly and accommodating than the old staff - especially when it comes to charging kids for rounds or having guests ride.
The lack of maintenance paired with the new management who are trying to run a stricter ship at the course make for a bad combo. There still isn't even something as basic as drinking water on the course. It's an unfortunate case, because the course has a great layout and some well designed holes, but the lack of care for the greens, cart paths, and clubhouse is evident. Either keep the prices lower and allow for people to play how they want as a place to practice or fix up the course and make it worth paying as much as other courses in the area.
Not bad for winter conditions
How do you want a public golf course in winter to be as nice as it is in summer? Impossible.
This golf course was flooded by important rain a week before but was in good condition when we played on a sunny day Dec 30.
We were happy to play here to close our yer of golf despite critics.
Pretty Rough
I’d been about a year since and I was really hoping they would have improved. Unfortunately, they have not.
I’m unsure of the circumstances of why this course is in such bad shape, but it’s pretty sad. I can excuse rough fairways and no sand in any of the bunkers, but bad tee’s and greens makes it feel like it’s just simply neglect. Even the practice green is in bad shape.
It’s pretty much the same for the clubhouse. The pro shop is almost empty and the food/bar situation is quite depressing.
I brought my wife here for her first round of golf but even she said, “I don’t want to come back here.” No matter the price of the round, I’d have to agree.
I hate to leave a bad review. Hopefully either they will begin to see how the public reviews this course and do something or sell to someone who would care a bit more.
Has Potential But .....
Right now, this is a course you don't worry about what you shoot, because most fairways have either bare spots, mud areas, or crab grass that would typically be marked off as GUR. Greens were not terrible but still not near what you consider nice greens.
The pace of play was good overall, so that plus the cost will probably have us try again in a few months and see if the conditions improve.
