Mis-advertised
This is a 9-hole course but advertised as 18 holes. Had I known it’s 9 holes, I wouldn’t have travelled 35 miles to play 9 holes twice. I found that the course was 18 holes but changed to 9 holes several years ago without updating the course website information. Additionally, Yardage provided by GPS for 7 of the 9 holes is off, in some case, by nearly 400 yds. The course staff couldn’t explain why the GPS yardage given by 3 devices is nearly identical; but significantly different than the advertised yardage. My guess is the yardage given is for the deleted holes. .This is totally unacceptable and waste of $78 (2 players) as well as my time.
Great Little (But Big) Course
Great little course with the carts. Each hole is interesting. Had a great time. We went when it was about 200 degrees outside but what a blast. The greens were well taken care of and the fairways are unmatchable. Thanks again.
Welcome Back!
Used to play this course with my father years back along with Deer Ridge just right across the street. Was devastated to see this place close initially & was very hopeful to see what’s to come when news came of the driving range reopening here. Always knew the green complexes never stopped being maintained here based on my experience driving by & also google maps funny enough. Nonetheless the layout here is a joyful & fair challenge for golfers of all skill sets. Front 9 has now been re-routed to make holes 7 & 8 back to back Par 3’s with water protecting the front of the 7th at around 170 out & water surrounding the 8th from 150 max(if black tees were in place). Astonished to see how much progress has been made in such a short amount of time & can’t wait too see what’s too come in the future for this gem. Thank you to the community & all involved in for bringing this place back to life!
welcome surprise
Was glad to see the availability of a foursome the day after Thanksgiving...Greens were in fantastic shape and overall the course was in great shape for this time of year. Bunkers were poorly maintained. Was overall very happy knowing the limited service at this course and look forward to playing it again soon
Horrible customer service.
It's a shame that this beautifully designed course is so horribly managed. We arrived to a shuttered pro shop with no signs alerting us to check in at the bar. After walking around looking for a place to check in we finally found an employee who directed us to the bar. When we informed them we were checking in, the response was "cash only". No welcome, no smiles, almost as if we were putting them out by showing up. After paying the green fees we were told we could find a cart out front in the roundabout. We walked around to the front where there were nothing but dirty carts being returned and were told that no, the carts are all around the back by the bar. So we schlepped our clubs all the way back around the building to find that the carts had no keys. Back into the bar for a key where the bartender said " oh yeah". No apologies. The course itself is a fantastic design with great views and a very challenging layout. Unfortunately, the management has really let the upkeep go. The fairways were rough and patchy. The bunkers have no sand. None. All hard packed dirt which apparently is good because they don't have to bother with putting rakes out. We need off at 1:00 and it was a hot day, yet the course was extremely wet in places and seems to be over watered. The price was great, but I would gladly have paid twice as much if the course and amenities were up to par. Really sad to see what was obviously once a gem reduced to this.
Still a good challenge
I had not played this course in over a year, and it is not as pristine as it used to be. With the drought and the fact they were closed during winter, it is understandable. The course is still challenging and a good deal. There was no sand in the bunkers and the carts were from Deer Ridge, so we didn't have the pin placement chart. We were unfortunate to be behind a thresome in which 2 out of 3 we're super rude and ended up making all kind of racist remarks and wanting to fight. They were drinking a lot. So I spoke with the guys from the staff that were driving around and they took care of it and kept it from escalating. They were very professional and kept checking on us for the rest of the round and even got us free drinks. Nicholas rocks!
Tough day
It took 2.5 hrs to play the front. Finished the tenth hole and had a three group back up on a par three. Number 12 had a twosome on the green a twosome in the fairway, a twosome on the tee and a twosome waiting on the tee. No one was regulating the groups! Our threesome walked off the course realizing it was going to be 3 plus hours to play the back nine. We love this course, but no one was managing the pace of play or groupings.
Needs work
Greens were in amazing shape but there were a lot of missing ball cleaners. Parts of the course were very wet which is surprising since it was over 100 degrees the past two days.
Pace of play sucked
It took us 3 hours to play 9 holes, waited on every hole. The course was in decent shape, greens were in good condition, fairways pretty good, bunkers sucked
They really need to do something about the pace of play
Great Greens
Nice large greens that slope in all the right places. Very nice putting trak. Fairways are dry and you will need to drop if in a dry crevice in the fairway or you will be hitting out of little dry divots that are not from past shots. Bunkers are very dry and no sand but just pick it out like on clay or pine needles, same surface. Do not try to splash out of bunkers as you will blade it or hurt your hands. Tee boxes were great. Great course for the value. Will return.
Great day.
Good company and great weather. For a course that is open part time, I am impressed w/ the better than average course conditions. Most of the fairways were green and tufted, however the 16th fairway was mostly dirty and the fact that this is a down hill lie into an island green makes the approach shot over water almost impossible. I would like to see more care taken on the 16th fairway, but overall the staff is "moving mountains" keeping this obviously financially burdened course alive!
The bones of a nice track
Price was right so drove 40 minutes to check it out. I liked the angles and the elevation changes. The course has just not been attended to as it could have been. Bunkers are atrocious. Fairways have a lot of growth and therefore very little roll. Greens are in pretty good shape. It just left me wondering.. "What if they really wanted to make this a four star track?
I keep coming back
Been playing here for a few years and I come back for the terrain, great layout and challenging greens. I really like many of the holes that require a mix of strategy but are open enough to encourage long driving. The greens are often multi-tiered and require a careful look before putting, Greens and fairways are pretty well maintained. Tee boxes are OK, sand traps are hard dirt, and weirdly, some ball washers are missing or empty. Nevertheless, for the price, layout, and good pace of play, I can have a really enjoyable round of golf.
Great Deal
Course is still in great shape. Go play.
All Things Considered
The course conditions were overall fair. You could see areas that have not been attended to for a period of time (overgrown vegetation, no sand in some bunkers-hard as a rock, standing water in other bunkers, ants on the greens, massive bird droppings on and around 17th green). All things considered it was in better condition than expected.
Only for sunday
I played this course following a regular event that they hold every Saturday. The play was slow because the group ahead of us wasn't playing ready golf. It was so bad that half our foursome left the course after 15 holes. This course is only open on weekends and this event made for a miserable round.Thank you (not) Shadow Lakes for letting these types of golfers dominate your course on Saturday morning.
