Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,218 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Issue with Golf Now
Hello, the course was amazing.
We are having an issue with Golf Now as we had to cancel a tee time and were not able to do so (a member of our group is a firefighter and was unable to play do to COVID 19). We are unable to reach anyone at GolfNow to get a refund. Thanks
Service is horrible, do not pay for 36, not worth it!
We were treated horribly, do not stay after 5:00, you get nothing in return!. I will never play the course again, horrible experience.
Excellent day of golf
Spent an hour in the practice area, could spend all day here as the driving range, putting greens (2), and chipping area are excellent. Range balls are included and seem to be quite new Calloway range balls.
Played with a friend and a couple that we were paired with, pace of play was not rushed, just right. Finished in under 4 hours.
Fairways, first and second cut rough, greens are a dream. I don't know how they could be in any better condition. The course is wide and forgiving but offers plenty of challenges and opportunities to play strategically. If you hit beyond the rough, you probably will not find your ball but could find a rattler or two during the warm weather. Take a club with you.
Had an excellent breakfast before our round, highly recommend the food and staff.
All in all, highly recommended.
Solid Track
Love both courses at Whirlwind, but Cat Tail is my favorite! Course was in good shape for the dead heat of summer, and the pro shop had some great merchandise deals. Highly recommend!
Excellent summer value
$47 for a round at a Troon course. This value is hard to beat especially considering the prices of similar courses in Scottsdale. Course conditions were excellent, pace was great, layout was challenging but not frustratingly so. I’d recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenge!
Amazing conditions
Amazing conditions. Amazing views and course layout. Would absolutely recommend. Only complaint is not a single ranger came around to check on pace the whole round. Group in front of us was absolutely wasted, laying down on the greens at one point and saw one guy chuck his club 40 yards into the desert after a bad shot and proceeded to look for it for several minutes while we waited to tee off.
Good layout but bunkers have very little sand
Played an afternoon round and all the bunkers were wet and had no sand making them very unreliable. Course has none good risk reward holes and can be fun to play with proper placement
Great price and cours
Really enjoyed playing Cattail..First time playing Whirlwind. I would highly recommend this course as playability was fair and greens are very puttable.
Cattail in November
The weather was spectacular and the overseeding has taken beautifully so Cattail is lush and green. Fairways are in great shape and the Bermuda rough is dormant so the course plays slightly easier than it would in warmer months. The greens were a little slow and bumpy as it’s apparent the course gets a lot of daily play and not everyone is as diligent as they should be in fixing ball marks. As always the course is well watered and in places that can encourage your ball to check up so plan ahead for that. Overall the course is in great shape.
