Copper Canyon Golf Club - Vista/Lake Course
About
The course at Copper Canyon Golf Club is deceptively exclusive in that although the club has prestige and a luxurious atmosphere, there are some reasonably priced tee times. The layout features an interesting mix of holes that offer panoramic views of the White Tank Mountains to the south. The large, undulating greens that are framed by generous fairways are the trademark of the course. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and there are also sand bunkers situated throughout. This golf course offers four sets of teeboxes. Copper Canyon Golf Club has extensive practice facilities for golfers to use as well, including a full length driving range with several target greens, a large practice putting green, and a short game area with a bunker.

Retirement community course
It's a retirement community course, didn't get the impression that anyone playing the course drove from outside the community to play. I played the tips and it was rare to see any divots on the tee boxes. Lots of people with street-legal custom carts. The course was good enough to play for cheap if you lived there, but I wouldn't drive the extra ~30 min round-trip to play it.
There's no rough here, just dead desert grass, and grass colored a different color for fairways. Fairway and tee box grass needed to be cut shorter, greens were smooth and fast though.
Long Par 5's that aren't reachable in 2 (550+), no elevated tee boxes or greens, no big doglegs. Bunkers are placed at ~250 on each fairway which required decision making off the tee. Large bunkers around tight fast greens with different levels were the most challenging part of the course.
Be careful booking twilight tee times. We had a "frost delay" and all tee times were pushed back 50 minutes, instead of the course being proactive and not scheduling early tee times (HAHA). Wasn't able to get the entire round in as a result. The practice range was very disappointing, it was all thin turf on cement.
No GPS in carts, no water provided in coolers. Snack shop at the turn was closing down as we were making the turn, restrooms were closed after the round. Staff was very friendly, but an overall average experience that wasn't worth making the drive for. Not sure what Troon's interest is in this course, nowhere near the quality of their other courses in the valley.
Greens
Normally this course has some of the best greens around. This last couple months no so much. They are bumpy and inconsistent between holes. I kept thinking they will get better, but after 5 rounds over 5 weeks they still haven't. I am thinking that maybe they need to roll their greens. Two of the three courses is still cart path only. This makes for a long day with very slow golfer in front of you. The range is still not fully open. They only have the mats to hit off of. (I absolutely hate the mats) Usually, this is one of my favorite courses. I hope they will fix their greens issue soon as this was one of their best features.
A Great Time
Had a great time on my first time at Copper Canyon. Pace of play was excellent, the greens (for me) were a little tricky. Shot an combined 83 (Mountain/Vista), which for ME was pretty good. The staff was friendly and my group was fun. I can't wait to play it again, and hopefully, break 80.
Good value for overseed season
My regular course is closed during this month, and I have played a couple rounds at this facility once on the lake/Vista combo, and this last time on the lake/mountain course. The mountain had just opened up after overseeding, So the greens were a little inconsistent but fairly playable. I like the layout of all three of the nines from what I’ve seen, and this Troon run facility Yes, plenty of fun with enough challenge for all kinds of different golfers. Like the clubhouse to beautiful, outdoor patio with friendly Bartenders and servers, the food was good and reasonably priced for a golf club. I’m sure I’ll return.
Worth the drive!
We were staying in Glendale for an event & read the reviews before taking the plunge. This place exceeded our expectations even though they were in the midst of annual maintenance.
Pace of place was right on 4 hours flat, greens were quick but true and the fairways were as good as you can get for this time of year.
Will be back again next time I am in the area!
Course is Ok
Fairway is wide so it is pretty easy to play. Green was half yellow. Grass on green was long and slow but still roll pretty good. It was quiet when we play so the pace of play was really good. Staff here are very good. They are very friendly and helpful. I just don't like the drive between holes. We feel like we are leaving the course and go to another course all together.
My New Favorite Course
One of the best courses I played during my recent 7 day golf trip. The course was in great shape. The greens felt like I was walking on a new padded carpet. Had a great time.
Great summer value
New favorite summer golf course. Course is in beautiful shape for a hot Arizona. Will be going back soon.
Great course
Had a great time, course was in really good condition and challenging.
