Reviews
Poor Conditions
I've played this course in the past and it's usually in decent shape, but not today. Most of the greens were aerated with zero warning (the practice green, holes 1-3 and 10 weren't aerated) and there's no way I would have played for the price I did if I had known about the aeration. Whoever aerated the greens didn't know what they were doing as they lazily only applied the sand that fills in the holes on maybe half of the surface of the greens. The bunkers were absolutely terrible, most of them had little to no sand left in them and were just hard-packed dirt. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the experience today.
Disappointed
Literally no sand in bunkers! Like hard clay. Had to pull balls out to not damage your stick! Terrible....

Good Value
Good value. Course is usually in decent shape. Very wet spring made it difficult but staff has done a good job.
Would recommend to anyone.
My Favorite Course in The Greater Lansing Area
I’ve played all of the courses in the area. College Fields holds its own, compares well to more expensive courses I.e. Eagle Eye and Hawk Hallow. Dollar for dollar, it’s the best course in the area!
Links style golf course on the front nine. The back nine is a bit tighter, especially hole 12. Fairways and greens are smooth and in excellent condition.
A little rough around the edges
Overall, the course is in good shape. Except for some of the greens. It looks as though they have quite a few customers that do not repair their ball marks. The other thing that was troublesome, the maintenance crew dragging and raking the sand traps. We had an 8:36am tee time, with a Sr. League behind us. The maintenance crew was behind us for the first 6 holes, until we told them to go ahead of us as we were getting annoyed of the tractor noise. We understand that maintenance must be done. But with an 8:36 tee time and a league behind us, the sand trap maintenance should have done well before we teed off. Just lack of proper planning by the maintenance supervisor.
Nice Course, but Sneaky Hard
College Fields was surprisingly a fun course. I normally play 6,400 - 6,600 yards, but the Starter told us it plays longer than the yardage from the White Tee at 6,166 because some short Par 3's, two short Par 4's, and one target golf Par 4. We took his advice and we are glad we did because the greens are really tricky and with the morning dew, the parts of the green in the shade had a rooster tail until the sun started drying the greens. It's a fun and fair layout. We plan to be back.
Not a field
Challenging but great to play. We had a great time. STaff was friendly and helpful. 19th hole was relaxing
Greens still a little spotty but it's early.
For the amount of rain we've had course was fairly dry. Good drainage. Greens still pretty rough but I'm sure they will get better.
Great course at good price. Greens a little bumpy.
I love this course. Price was good, but as a result course was packed and pace was slow. Greens were kind of beat up.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve, and we are working towards getting things up to par. Thank you for playing College Fields Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
