McCormick Woods Golf Course
About
Since opening in 1987, McCormick Woods Golf Club has garnered titles including "Best Course" and "Most Enjoyable Course" by Golf Digest and Golfweek. It is one of only 10 courses in the state of Washington that are Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries. The stunning layout features natural lakes hidden among beautiful fir and cedar trees. Don't let the scenery distract you though, it's one of the most difficult golf courses in the area. There are significant elevation changes throughout and you'll have to face the occasional blind shot. Though the golf course is challenging, there are five sets of tees so players of all skill levels can play to their abilities. McCormick Woods Golf Club also has a practice facility with a driving range, two putting greens, and an area devoted to chipping, pitching, and bunker play.

Tough but fair
Great surroundings. Quiet. Some fairways are pretty tight, others are wide open. Many of my fairway lies were either downhill or sidehill, but that might have just been me. Nice greens, fast and true. Good selection of beer in the bar.
Fun challenging layout
Great PNW course, we always enjoy it rain or shine. And it has a strong womens program which is rare. The tree thinning along the fairways is starting to grow in and it will just continue to get more playable and better after a few drier weeks. Greens are good for the most part but some areas are in need of some tlc/repair.
Thanks for your comments. We do a lot of women's programs, including some late afternoon, 9-hole groups, classes and family golf nights. Thanks for noticing!
Also, we believe the tree thinning we did last winter will continue to help us improve the playing conditions of McCormick Woods for many years to come because of the better air circulation and more sunlight.

Great course
The course was in great shape and the greens were recovering nicely from being punched. Very fast greens. Pretty challenging course with a lot of side sloping fairways that are hard to hold.
I walked the course this time but that won't happen again. It's a long course and pretty hilly so if you are not in good shape get a cart! I will be back.
Felt being cheated
Before making reservation, I called the course to check whether green was punched. The course said no and green condition is good. But the green was punched, not big holes but still small holes and lots of sand. And the fairway condition was pretty bad. I won't go back.
Worst I've ever seen this course...
Saturday golf, $81. Grass on tee boxes was 2+" long (it was like hitting out of the rough), fairways weren't much better. Round took over 5 hours. I've played here several times in the past and was shocked to find the course in such poor condition, won't be back any time soon.
Get your act together.
Back to it's former self
McCormick used to be the best public course in Western WA, but lost some of it's luster during the past 10 years. RMG has got the course back in shape, and it's now up there with Whitehorse and Gold Mountain (Olympic) as one of the best in the state. It's a long course to walk, with significant elevation changes, and it's also one of the more difficult courses in the area. Those 2 factors combine to make pace of play a little sluggish, so count on 4 1/2 + hours for 18 holes.
Slow Pace
It's a shame they don't have better club house attendants. After being unfriendly at check in, they tried charging my three playing partners double the Golf Now online rate that we had booked. They also seemed unconcerned with pace of play as their "Marshall" is non-existent and didn't seem to try and speed up two really slow groups. Perhaps that's because they let a group of 5 to 6 players go off without questioning it?
It's too bad because the course is nice, but I think the RMG club pressure has ruined the service and peacefulness of this once quiet sleeper.
great afternoon
Went online to find a last minute tee time, played 18. At a discounted rate. Very good value for price. Would play here again though course needs work before I would pay full price.
McCormick going downhill
I have played McCormick several times and have to say that the course condition is going downhill. i play all over and for the price charged, I expect better conditions. Also I don't have a positive or negative comment about the trees being removed, but the editorial of improving the condition of the greens isa bit insulting since they were removed all over and obviously logged for financial reasons. overall i enjoyed my round, for the condition and location of the course, it is not worth the money (at this time). C clean up the course and get it BACK into the condition it once was.
Very nice course!!!
I really enjoyed course. I will visit again this course.
Nice difficult course
The greens were sanded. Never seen this done in the middle of summer. Wish we would have been told prior to booking tee time
Course has recovered nicely
Glad to see course has improved greatly since the Spring.
Maybe a good track some day....
First time here so this will be a bit rough. Was not impressed with the tee boxes, fairways and some of the greens. I didn't read the reviews prior to playing but certainly understood them when I read them later. The course is just plain in bad shape due to the tree removal, extremely hot summer (the fairways etc. were horrendous, so brown) and tee box conditions. Playing it for the first time just wasn't fun... I do believe a trip back would be more enjoyable when they get the course in better shape but that won't be this year.
A shadow of it's former self July 2015
Let me start by saying I have a long history with this course. In July of 2015 it is in the very worst condition that I have ever seen it in. While I recognize that we had a very dry and hot June, it is quite obvious the maintenance on the irrigation system has been deferred or poorly operated. The fairways had many dry areas three feet from sprinkler heads contrasted with slivers of good green grass along the fall line of the irrigation water. The greens were okay I guess but they too were quite dry/firm from my past playing experiences.
On top of that, the entire course is undergoing a "renovation", the words of the pro shop staff. What is going on is the destruction of a few hundred tress from tee to green intending to improve grass growing conditions. I recognize the need for light to grow grass but it sure seems to me that the tree removal program should include the removal of stumps as well. The "renovation" may be a necessary one but right now the course has lost an enormous amount of beauty and appeal for me.
I do not recommend plying this course for at least a year for the reasons above.
Changes
This course used to be very full of trees and absolutely gorgeous. I played there recently and it really looks like they made a deal with a logging company to clear out the trees. There is not a whole lot of "woods" left in Mccormick Woods, that's for sure. Other than that, I have no bad things to say about it. The greens and everything are very hard due to the hot summer, but remain green. All the workers are very polite and the beer on tap was deliciously cold.
Super Hot & Dry
With the temperature in the upper 80;s and days since we'd had any rain, the course was baked out. this made the greens difficult to hold, especially with the undulating slopes. My partner and I plus the twosome they paired us with were exhausted by the end of the round. Still, we'd come back again
Real challenging design. Good ball movement on the greens .
I want to play this course again. I think it takes a few times to really get the movement of the fairways. The greens are very challenging, with a lot of ball movement. The course is beautifully laid out, with homes a safe distance, in most places, from arrant shots. A lot of wild life as well. Just a very beautiful course. The walk was good.
Not the McCormick Woods of old
Fairways were good. Tee boxes were very ragged. Greens very slow and ragged. Pro shop staff said 3,000 trees removed over the winter. Didn't look like the same wonderful course and certainly didn't play like we are accustomed to. Perhaps we will give it another try late in the season but will watch reviews to see if course conditions improve. So disappointing.
Course in tough shape
This course is in very tough shape. Don't mind a difficult course but this is ridiculous.
Greens are really bad shape, very bumpy and inconsistent.
They took out a lot of trees and looks like they just left everything.
Would not go back.
Challenging course if playing from tips, a lot of tree!
I guess they were removing a ton of trees and making improvements to the course. Tee boxes and greens needed a little TLC. Challenging course and I would say walking would definitely give you a great work out. A lot of hills, twists and turns and different elevations. Course plays much harder from the tips. Will play again in late summer and hopefully all they improvements will be fixed and course plays better.
Thanks for your review and comments. We hope to see you back out soon.
