Riverside Golf Course
About
Riverside Golf Course is located on the northwest side of Janesville near the Rock River. Opened in 1924, it is one of the oldest courses in the area and over the years it has earned the reputation of being one of southern Wisconsin's best public courses. The course has also been recognized as one of the 50 best public golf values in the country. The gently rolling hills of the landscape provide the course with rolling, tree-lined fairways and large, undulating greens, which are framed by strategically placed bunkers. Riverside is a challenging course but not so difficult that beginners should be intimidated. The classic layout is quite forgiving and versatile enough for a range of skill levels, one reason why it is the host to the Ray Fischer Tournament, one of the Midwest's most prestigious amateur events.

Looking For Something DIFFERENT & New
Great value off website we use. First time played only thing I didnt like were have low cut and dryed out the greens were. Made them way to inconsistently fast. NOT a true roll. One thing I thought extremely Highly of was how well there sand traps were taken care of. Fairways and roughes were in great shape. I would go back to play again. Not many changes of slope to the course, pretty flat. Markers in fairway a plus. Not hard though. Par 3's very very short....
First Time. Will Go Back.
Today was the first time that I've ever played this course. Definately one of Janesville's best kept secret. Played from the tips, and shot +2. I carry a 7 HCP. The staff was very friendly, course was in great shape, and the greens had some bite. No water on the entire course, but lots of sand. Only one complaint. 6 pack of beer, $24. Other than that, I will be playing this course again on my next trip to Wisconsin. (next summer of course) One of the nicest public courses I've played in a long time.
Walk in history
This course has the feel and look of an old course. Target golf more than grip and rip course. Greens are smooth and roll true.
Nice trees, well maintained and colorful.
I would highly recommend this course to any players. The person in the clubhouse was excellent and made us feel right at home. Was willing to help in any way to make our golfing enjoyable.
Nice Course
The course is well designed and was in good shape. I would definitely come back.
I don't think the heavy stuff's gonna come down for quite awhile.
I watch the rain on my smart phone. It was coming and it was going to be heavy with lightning. However, the staff did not seem to care if I went out. They also said that they did not have a warning system for lightning, nor did they monitor lightning. This to me seems odd and uncaring. We made the decision to wait an hour and a half and let the weather pass. But, just think of the danger to those that went out anyway.
Rainy day
We thought the rain would hold off but we got drenched around the 7th hole of play. We and all of the league golfers left the course and went to the club house. The staff was awesome and gave us a 9 hole rain check. The staff went out of their way for us.
Beautiful golf course
The course is in perfect condition. I enjoyed it a lot.
The whole staff was very nice
From the time I got to the course to the time turned in my cart the staff was very nice. When I arrived at the course I noticed the way they clean their carts. They were scrubbing the tops and making sure the whole carts were cleaned everywhere and that impressed me from the start of my day. I was greeted in the clubhouse and when I told him this was my first round here he even walked me to the door and gave me some tips on how the course played and to play the greens short as long is trouble on the back sides .I really the complementary yardage books. The course has many different types of layouts and gives you plenty of chances for birdies yet can yield some bogies as well if you play the hole wrong. The greens are awesome and are true to the read. Very nice to putt on. The par 5 10th is a great layout with the 3rd shot needing a great iron shot to make birdie ( I boogied the hole lol ). The par 4 7th is another hole that sets up to make you think about the tee shot. ( I doubled that one ) All in all I very much enjoyed my round there and will make this my home course. You can tell they take pride in their Greens, fairways, and making you entire visit one you will remember. They should be proud of themselves.. I will say that the players should be encouraged to repair their divots to keep the greens rolling true. Maybe a sign here and there or maybe offer some type of divot tool with a instruction card and how important it is to repair you divot. Thank you for letting me have a great day !!
great golf
Course was in good shape. Very busy, would have liked a quicker pace on the front 9.
Great value
This is one of my favorite courses in the greater Madison area. It's a terrific value...paid $27 (including cart) for a early Sunday afternoon time on Golfnow....the quality of this course compares easily to those charging twice as much or more. Other than the standard tee boxes, and slow golf carts, it's hard to believe you're playing a "muni!" It feels much more like a CC. Even the quality of play resembles club play...fast, quality players seem to be the norm. Highly recommend this course for anyone in northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin.
Nice city course..
Course was in pretty good condition and the staff was very friendly, including the beverage cart girl. Overall the course was a good value for the price, although we were hoping there was going to be a place you would actually be able to see the river. The course felt quite easy with many places to bail out with a miss.
Riverside Golf Course
Number of very interesting holes. Greens very quick!
Enjoyed the course!
Nice course
Course is in good shape for this time of year. Mature course with cut roughs.
Great value
Riverside has lots of character, with many interesting holes. Great pro shop, friendly staff and reasonable prices in clubhouse. An outstanding value, one of the best public courses in Wisconsin.
Classic course in excellent fall shape.
Made trip from Stoughton for second time in a week. Absolutely challenging track in gorgeous surroundings. I hadn't played it in over 40 years and will return soon. Greens are tricky fast and and true.
Wow, excellent greens
Our home course is in very good condition, we were blown away by the excellent condition of the greens at Riverside. Large, lush, rolling and true greens - big surprise for a public course. Rest of the course was in very good shape, too.
Excellent condition
This is the best maintained municipal golf course around!
Friendlest staff ever, ANY course.
Everything about the course was great, EXCEPT the rate of play..... 5-1/2 hrs is much too long, to play any course.
