The Cowden at Muckhart Golf Club
About
The Cowden's nine holes at Muckhart Golf Club are the original nine where golf has been played for nearly 100 years at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Virtually no changes have been made to the layout during this time.
Muckhart Golf Club has 27 holes comprising three courses of 18 holes on a rotating basis. The Cowden Course measures 3,251 yards from the medal tees, and par is 36 for the nine holes.
Cowden's signature holes are the fifth and ninth. No. 5 is a challenging par 4 crossing two valleys, with the green backed by the Ochil hills. No. 9 is normally the last hole in an 18-hole round and is considered one of the finest finishing holes in Scottish golf. The drive has to be steered between a stream and a water hazard, and only the very longest hitters will consider taking on the burn in front of the green with their second shot.

Fun
There are three 9s, I okayed Naemoor-Cowden. Naemoor is open but still a challenge to score on. Cowden is the oldest 9, narrower and fun. Bar and restaurant open. Particular praise to the Pro, who was so welcoming and helpful.
Stunning Course. Particularly Helpful Staff
Fab round today at Muckhart. Course in fantastic condition. Really challenging but enjoyable.
Booked round via Golf Now - made a slight error in the booking but the absolutely superb gentlemen in the pro shop sorted out for me.
Will be back very soon.
Good job.
Great course in fantastic condition
I had travelled up from Newcastle and had the day to kill so booked in last minute. Pro Shop was great, friendly and helpful. Explained the course to me and got me on early to avoid a 4 ball that was due to go off. The course was in great condition with some interesting holes. Some long par 3's!
Definitely worth a round!
Excellent Course
Excellent course and was in great condition even though we have had torrential rain over the last week. Greens were in good condition although a little slow. I am seriously considering joining the club.
Muckhart Golf Club
We had a really enjoyable day at Muckhart Golf Club.
Professional was super helpful, we hadn’t played there before. Course was great and no slow play. Topped off with a terrific lunch. We’ll be back!
Course has a good variety of holes
Good condition considering there had been a lot of rain fall the previous few days. Some of the par 4s are challenging with raised greens but a good test of your game.
The original back nine (Cowden) is going through a lot of tree felling. As such it is a bit of an eye sore. We were told by the club pro that the greens were in the same condition as the front nine. Clearly not, covered in sand with hollow tining having taken place. In very poor condition even taking in to consideration the time of year.
Will not be returning in a hurry
Bad condition
Me and my dad played 18 holes at Muckhart GC - this golf course has 27 holes in total. We played the first 9 and then decided to play a different back 9 to the original 18 that was laid out for the day. Before we went on to our back 9 I asked if all 9 hole courses were in the same condition, and was told yes. Well, the back 9 was terrible! The greens were poor and the tees weren’t much better. The fact I was told the condition of the back 9 was the same as the front 9 was just not correct, so that spoiled our overall round.
The first 9 wasn’t as bad as the back 9 but still not great. The greens weren’t good and the tees were bad too.
I used to be a member at this course, unfortunately I won’t be rushing to go back. I’ve uploaded 2 pictures of the 16th green, but to be honest I probably could have taken near enough the same picture on most greens.
Great views
First time played there. I appreciate it’s early in the season. The course is being prepared for the new season. 18 holes, (x2, 9 holes). Nice layed out course within the hillfoots, Varried holes. Great potential. Will be back
Brilliant course. Play it all the time. Cheap as well and the course for the money is second to none. Beautiful scenery and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend. Chirowwwwww
Nice course, friendly staff and members
This course is nicely in between where my son lives and where I live so thought I’d try it with a view to us playing regularly. As a real newcomer to golf I was a bit worried I would annoy people with my slow play as I hacked my way round, but everyone I met was very friendly. The tees and fairways were in great condition although the greens had just been cored & sanded so we’re obviously not at their best. It’s a lovely course (actually three 9-hole courses, which gives great flexibility), quite open, with a few tricky holes, but not so challenging as to put off a noob like me. Pace of play was fairly slow which suited me but I was playing later in the day so it wasn’t super busy. Nice clubhouse, nice pro shop, friendly welcome. Will definitely play again.
Nice course
Nice course in good condition, lots of elevation on the first nine making for some tricky shots. Greens were prepared for winter but to be expected this time of year. Very friendly in the pro shop explaining the course etc.
Top course
Great day out all round.
Course in great condition and has some very challenging holes, staff were very friendly and took time to give us some information on the course.
Muckhart GC
Very enjoyable game. Course was very dry underfoot. Playing short as tees all closed but it was worth the money. Definitely go back during summer
Great day out
Despite the horrible weather for the full week, all greens were on and no fairway mats. Course in really decent condition despite all the snow, wind and rain.
Warmly welcomed and shown around, then welcomed into the clubhouse afterwards for a fantastic bowl of soup and a roll.
Looking forward to returning.
