Turnhouse Golf Club
About
Turnhouse Golf Club debuted as a nine-holer in 1897, but expanded to 18 by 1900. A wooden hut was its first clubhouse - perhaps, on the 15th, you can hear ghosts of the original golfers washing away their rounds - and sold tea for sixpence, with meat costing a shilling. Not much happened on the golf course until 1924, when James Braid surveyed the course and suggested improvements, and then again, in 1950, when the current seventh and eighth holes were created.
Turnhouse Golf Club is a par-69 golf course with a standard-scratch rating of 70 running 6,060 yards. The golf course ranks third for number of par-4 holes longer than 400 yards in the Lothians. Sitting atop Lennie Hill, the golf course offers magnificent 360-degree views: On clear days golfers can glimpse the mountains of the Scottish Highlands (north), the River Forth (east), the Pentland Hills (south) and the old coal bings of Broxburn (west).
In other good news, the Turnhouse Golf Club's clubhouse is no longer a wooden hut; in not-so-good news, the prices of liquids and solids in the bar have gone up.

Winter conditions
Unfortunately there was full winter tees. With one winter green. The rest of the greens were in very good condition.
The layout of course was also altered. For a visitor this was confusing. Not sure why some clubs do this. The cost of £19 for winter golf is too expensive.
Clubhouse excellent and reasonably priced.
The unknown gem
Found the course on Golf Now. On speaking to golf friends, as was my wife and I, they had never heard of it. Go there .. it was in lovely condition both fairways an greens. Staff great and helpful.
Lightning, true greens
Played this several times this year... Greens fast and true this time...
Course in good condition, as windy as ever...
Pace of play good...
Turnhouse GC
Got a great deal on Golf Now, and caught a great weather day on this course adjacent to the Edinburg airport.
Well maintained course with very friendly & accommodating staff.
I am a high handicapper, so for me it was somewhat challenging. Greens on this course ( and another I played during visit ) were much faster than I typically see in the northeast USA.
Nice pub in clubhouse to enjoy a post round drink.
Turnhouse
Very good course great views a cpl of blind holes ,would highly recommend giving it a try will play it again soon
Love the wind....
Last played off Winter Tees and Winter greens, course now in good condition...
Testing par 4s and 3s in the wind...
The sound of planes taking off and landing from nearby runway can be very off-putting if your concentration isn't 100%...
Nice course, fantastic value for £10, not sure if it's a £25 or even more course when compared with other courses for the same cost...
I'll maybe wear earplugs next time...
my hidden gem
have to admit that over the years I have been playing courses around Edinburgh and was completely unaware of this course. brought to notice by "Hot Deal" on Golf Now.
Arrived with my wife on what appeared to be the finest golfing day. The course was in excellent condition .. fairways well tended ... greens true and virtually immaculate, Then the wind started!!!
Next to Edinburgh Airport was a plane spotters delight but did not detract from the golf.
Alltogether, a great round of golf and I will return.
Good course - very hilly
Turnhouse is a good, challenging golf course. There are a number of uphill and downhill holes that require imagination. There is also a mix of long and short holes.
enjoyable course for high handicapper
Really well kept course which was very busy for a thursday morning.
As a result play was slower than I am used to but the greens and fairways were excellent.
Several blind holes over ridges in the fairway puzzled me a few times.
Well worth a visit and will hopefully return
Excellent course for all abilities and in fantastic condition
Turnhouse is a beautiful course which was in terrific condition when we played. The course challenges you on some holes but is tee to green is perfect for all abilities. We both really enjoyed ourselves and I would highly recommend this course.
Impeccable Greens
A golf course which has a false reputation for being hilly. Apart from climbing up at the first and tenth holes you then play round and down. You use all the clubs in the bag in a round of golf here. The greens are really, really good. Firm, smooth and true.
